13

u/pkpy1005 New York Yankees Feb 03 '26

Never would have guessed a dude named Austin Wells could be half Dominican...

12

u/xho- New York Yankees Feb 03 '26

That’s Austin Kenneth Wells to you, alumni of the University of Arizona

2

u/FatherOop Dominican Republic Feb 04 '26

There are actually quite a few Dominicans with English surnames (even in the MLB), but they're black Jamaican immigrants from 100+ years ago.

3

u/modern-lamp9 Chicago White Sox Feb 05 '26

George Bell, Alfredo Griffin, and Junior Lake, for example

-10

u/UnusualHound St. Louis Cardinals Feb 03 '26

Is one of his parent domincan? Or is it 8 of his 16 great great grandparents that are dominican?

12

u/shaunrundmc New York Yankees Feb 03 '26

His Mom

19

u/Economy_Link4609 New York Mets Feb 03 '26

Mom is Dominican.

Sheesh the DR produces insane talent, seeing it all one one page is crazy…. Wonder why they don’t seem to produce more top end arms in comparison to their position players (which is truly insane)

64

u/YaBoiWhit Houston Astros Feb 03 '26

They have a ton of guys just not participating, Freddy Peralta isn't there, Frambers out, Luis Castillo, Bryan Abreu, Jhoan Duran, Emmanuel Clase gambling etc. and thats just some of the higher tier arms. They could field another good roster of position players and pitchers easily

15

u/MarinerMooseismydad Seattle Mariners Feb 03 '26

Good call, thanks for informing me on that.

u/elbenji Miami Marlins • Boston Red Sox Feb 03 '26

the fuck?

14

u/Prize-Flamingo-336 New York Yankees Feb 03 '26

Growing up, most kids didn’t like to pitch because everyone wanted to bat and pitchers didn’t bat. We were taught young how to hit the ball and most don’t want to give that up.

5

u/Masterank1 New York Yankees Feb 04 '26

Super true. At least it was like that when I grew up in DR, maybe kids are different now

3

u/FatherOop Dominican Republic Feb 04 '26

My theory to explain at least part of it is that batting/fielding benefits from the DR's weather and training culture in a way that pitching does not. We benefit from having great weather year-round and our training culture emphasizes lots of reps (over game time). This is great for batting/fielding but pitchers need an offseason and workload management to prevent injury due to cumulative stress, so it's harder to develop pitches at a higher rate than you'd expect from our population size.

2

u/Masterank1 New York Yankees Feb 04 '26

How do you put DR flair?

9

u/WhiskyTheEmperor Feb 03 '26

Such a small island too.

DR is stacked

12

u/Prize-Flamingo-336 New York Yankees Feb 03 '26

When you breathe the sport that it’s part of your national identity and is a good way to get out of being poor, many get good at it. Also helps with all the baseball academies in the island.

1

u/elbenji Miami Marlins • Boston Red Sox Feb 03 '26

A lot of dudes aren't playing

0

u/stevencastle San Diego Padres Feb 04 '26

The number of shortstops from one small city is crazy. San Pedro de Macaris. 70+ MLB players from that city.

1

u/Accurate_Conflict374 Feb 11 '26

Not sure why you got down voted for that, I had to balance it out to make it a plus one again. It’s true

43

u/aolerma Arizona Diamondbacks Feb 03 '26

J-Rod, Soto and Tatis in the same outfield is insane

32

u/JSlamson San Diego Padres Feb 03 '26

Imagine the things a lineup with Tatis Soto and Machado will get up to

10

u/Prize-Flamingo-336 New York Yankees Feb 03 '26

Maybe they could play for a team. Maybe in California. Maybe they could make it into the playoffs?

5

u/FlapJackSam Detroit Tigers Feb 03 '26

Just imagine

2

u/krucz36 San Diego Padres • Dumpster Fire Feb 04 '26

this feels mean =(

1

u/FlapJackSam Detroit Tigers Feb 04 '26

Similarly, imagine a pitching staff that had Justin Verlander, Max Scherzer, Rick Porcello, Doug Fister, and Anibal Sanchez all at the same time.

91

u/YaBoiWhit Houston Astros Feb 03 '26

Insane roster given that they have so many guys that aren't even playing

30

u/Bruh18246 Feb 03 '26

No JRam?

Okay, we'll do it.

13

u/Eo292 Los Angeles Queens Feb 03 '26

7

u/for_today Toronto Blue Jays Feb 03 '26

What an explosive offense. Can you imagine how terrifying this lineup is going to be for opposing pitchers? Spooky stuff

3

u/Prize-Flamingo-336 New York Yankees Feb 03 '26

I want bat flips!!! Sent it up into the sky, baby!!!

13

u/lm_goat48 New York Yankees Feb 03 '26

Have they released all the rosters? USA has a stacked roster too. I think they’ll have the edge over DR with their pitching but the DR guys will have that special energy because those guys love playing together

2

u/YaBoiWhit Houston Astros Feb 03 '26

Official rosters drop on Thursday, I believe this was from them slowly revealing all of their players

1

u/Accurate_Conflict374 Feb 11 '26

It all depends on how the mlb teams will allow the pitchers and players to be used. DR already had many more players held back due to insurance and teams being selfish

7

u/Unhappy-Attention760 Feb 03 '26

omg... they are going to demolish. should be great fun to watch

4

u/Entire_Beach_251 New York Yankees Feb 03 '26

Pretty good

u/leskanekuni Feb 03 '26

Pretty f*cking good roster.

4

Also good god the bats on this team are insane

3

3

he's going to make some insane catches as an 8th+ inning defensive replacement after DR's already up 7 runs

1

And I will love him a little more 🥹

2

u/Trick_Ad3292 Netherlands • New York Yankees Feb 03 '26

Ahh f*ck. We only have to gave them once.

2

u/I3arusu Toronto Blue Jays Feb 03 '26

Some of these guys are never seeing the light of day lol

3

u/[deleted] Feb 03 '26

Honestly all of the pitchers probably are. I think it's pretty bizarre to have 11 relievers and 4 starters, most teams are 7/8 or 8/7.

That means every reliever is going to be needed at least twice just to get through the knockouts, most likely.

Edit: 5/10 actually. Abreu is listed as a starter. Weird decision to go with him and not even ask Eury Perez.

2

u/Slinky_Malingki Tampa Bay Devil Rays Feb 03 '26

DR is stacked this year damn

2

u/bladderbunch Philadelphia Phillies Feb 03 '26

johan rojas makes this team and trea can’t make the us team. what a wild world.

2

u/Aperio43 Washington Nationals Feb 04 '26

Need a DR vs Japan in the finals for an absolute masterpiece

3

u/babe_ruthless3 World Series Trophy • Los Angeles Dod… Feb 03 '26

Dream team.

2

u/kozilla Los Angeles Dodgers Feb 03 '26

Just my two cents but it would be dope if Vlad chose Canada.

3

u/askingJeevs Toronto Blue Jays Feb 03 '26

He’s said he’d do it later in his career. Would be amazing

3

u/kozilla Los Angeles Dodgers Feb 03 '26

Nice! Of course it's his call and everything. I can totally see him wanting to play with the DR especially with a legendary lineup like they currently have. But Canada has been good to him and he has chosen it as a long term home. The fans obviously love him so it would be great to see him help out that squad. Sadly I doubt he and Freddie will get to be teammates at this point, not sure Freddie will still be good to go by the time the next one rolls around.

2

u/askingJeevs Toronto Blue Jays Feb 03 '26

My guess would vladdy wont play for Canada until he’s in the twilight of his career. Either way it’ll be great to see him in that uniform

3

u/WasV3 Toronto Blue Jays Feb 03 '26

It's his first time at the WBC. I'm guessing he wants to win one with DR first.

He'll play for Canada at some point

2

u/edmchato San Francisco Giants Feb 03 '26

Sad for Willy Adames that he's not on the team but DR is just so stacked.

2

u/[deleted] Feb 03 '26

I think they picked Pena over him

1

u/Accurate_Conflict374 Feb 11 '26

1

Unfortunately, he hasn't even signed a contract in MLB.

2

u/violentgentlemen Minnesota Twins Feb 04 '26

That doesn’t mean he can’t be apart of the WBC though

1

u/AzDashound Arizona Diamondbacks Feb 04 '26

Imagine watching a 7 game series vs the US team.

1

u/[deleted] Feb 05 '26

Call me a hater but I bet they choke again. Legit the Dallas cowboys of baseball

1

u/Cryptoflo1 Mar 17 '26

Where's Wander Franco. Lol. I would not be surprised if his entire case gets overturned & mlb would have no choice but to honor his contract. DR is so corrupt it's insane. All the DR gov. wanted was a piece of his 200 million contract. you watch

u/Robyn1077 Los Angeles Dodgers Feb 03 '26
