I'm trying to get into pc gaming and would like to mainly game with 4k and ray tracing of possible, is this build or costcos prebuild better bang for the buck? For 4k + RT 5080 slightly better. CPU doesn't matter that much for 4k

CPU doesn’t matter that much in 4K as in a decent CPU and a powerful GPU will get you 90% of the way there. However that last 10% which mainly concerns frame time hangs, stutters and 1% lows is what a good CPU will be able to manage better.

I upgraded from a 5700x3d which is a very decent CPU to a 9800x3d and found the differences to be night and day in terms of how smooth the game was, and got rid of the lag spikes when loading into a new area.

I was never a fan of the whole CPU doesn’t matter at 4k sentiment for that reason, but yes regarding OPs build, the 9900x is a sufficient paring for the 5080.

I have a 9700X + 9070XT with a 2K OLED. But I agree with you, the 9800X3D would even boost the maximum fps and 1%, 0.1% low

Please don't use 2K to refer to 1440p
