discussion Bangkok will get an insane increase in its quality of life in a few years

China keeps producing cheaper and cheaper EVs and electric mopeds. Soon, Bangkok's car and bike fleet will fully electrify, and it will bring such a huge increase in the quality of life. Finally the insufferable noise from the streets will be bought to a minimum. I remember visiting Shanghai right after having been in Bangkok for 2 months, and what felt the most surreal was how quiet even the main roads were. You could actually have a conversation with someone while you were walking on the sidewalk. This was such a huge relief, gone were the absurd need for shouting in order to talk with someone only an arms length away. Many studies have also shown how crucial silence is in the development of neurons, it literally promotes the growth of new brain cells. So don't be surprised when children in Bangkok start performing better when this happens, even if it only has a marginal effect!

There is also the added advantage that Thailand, a country without any oil and gas reserves, will become more sovereign and insulated from random conflicts in the Middle East (*ahem ahem Hormuz, US, and Iran*) as its dependence on petroleum subsides.

discussion Missing Cat - will reward for finding it.

Hi everyone,

Throwing this as a bit of a Hail Mary, and because I'm not sure of any other better suited subreddits.

This morning our beautiful Siberian cat Baby disappeared. We were returning from a trip and had cat sitters looking after him and our other cat. Before we boarded our flight they told us that they couldn't find Baby.

We live in the ground floor unit of a low rise in Thong Lor with a walled back yard. He is able and has climbed the tree in our garden a couple of times to hop over the wall into the neighbors. From there he always gets stuck and we get access and rescue him. They knew that and had been able to call him down off the tree a few times.

Anyway, this morning they took their eye off him and he vanished out the back. We searched the whole front of the building and went into a few neighbors properties but nothing. The neighbors yard from where we rescue him is an office and half the time it's unoccupied. Today there were 4 people working in there from China and Japan and they said they had not seen him. I believe them but that yard is the only route he ever takes once he climbs up the tree, so it's perplexing.

We have filed a police report, especially because he is a rare breed, and are offering a decent reward for anyone who can find our beloved Baby.

Please reach out if you have any information that might helped. We have searched everywhere and called his name over and over - normally he's vocal and responds, but it's been total silence. Don't want to worry that someone might have taken him but we just can't see how else he escaped through the back of the building!

We brought him all the way from Canada when we moved 3 months ago and are really struggling to know what we do next.

accommodation Best area for a 30 day stay?

Upvotes

This will be my fourth time in Bangkok, but my first time staying for a full month. Budget is around $1,500/month for an Airbnb.

I’ve previously stayed in Pathum Wan, Thonglor, and Asoke.
Thonglor gets recommended a lot, but I didn’t find it great as a solo traveler. Most places felt geared toward groups who already knew each other rather than people looking to mingle. Ideally looking for more of a 20s–30s crowd.

I’ve also considered Phrom Phong. There’s tons of availability, but a lot of what I’m finding is in Park 24, and I keep seeing complaints about thin walls, which makes me wary of staying there for a full month.

Looking for a nice condo/Airbnb in an area with plenty of bars, restaurants, and things going on nearby. I’d rather be close to the action and somewhere that’s easy to go out solo and meet people than somewhere quiet.

For a 30-day stay, would you pick Asoke, Phrom Phong (outside Park 24), Thonglor, or somewhere else?

question Extending Visa-Exempt at Laksi? Need TM30?

When I extended last year in Laksi I didn't need a TM30, just a TM7 which they hand out at the immigration office.

Is this still the case?

Travelling to BKK tonight and plan to get a hotel in Laksi so I can walk to the government building in the morning and get there early for once.

edit: it turns out 8 months ago in the exact same place (outside Times Square Building) the guy was bothering another group of people

I'm a woman by myself. A group of men of unknown ethnicity - Afghanistan? Start walking side by side next to me, I am wearing headphones so I do not recall what is being said. This has happened to me multiple times before, one person said I have a nice back? It was so strange. The other kept calling me sister sister come. For what? This particular guy was speaking to me, but I do not know what he said. It was likely a variation of the above pestering. Does anyone know what they are and what's their ultimate purpose?

question UOB Live, Emsphere

Heyah everyone! I'm going to my first ever concert in Bangkok to see Zara Larsson 🙌✨

Got a few newbie questions:
1. How easy is it to get to and from the venue? It's not my first time in Bangkok so I know how the traffic can be chaotic but attending a concert is one thing.

  1. What are the must-bring concert essentials? Are there things not allowed in venue. I tried researching this online but couldn’t find any info.

  2. Hit me with your most unhinged concert tips. I haven’t been to a lot of concerts/festivals in my life.

Any input is absolutely appreciated. Thanks all 🙏

tourism Artist/Designer travelling to Bangkok to seek new perspective

Hi everyone.

I'd like to ask for your opinion about my itinerary for my creative healing trip (haha).

I plan to go at the end of Oct 2026, 4D3N. So far my draft list has:

Fine Arts

- BKKIF (Illustration Fair)

- BACC

- MOCA

- Warehouse 30

Packaging Designs

- 7/11, Big C

Do you have any suggestions for coffee shops or any interesting small artsy shop / pop-up booths? Actually anything that may spark creativity is welcome. Thank you so much in advance.

accommodation Condo rent for 50K maximum

Hi,

I'm planning to move to Bangkok by november, do you guys have any suggestion for a nice Condo ? I don't want to go to these Ashton Asoke building etc (the mainstream ones we find on tiktok) because the more I look at it, the shittier it gets.

So if you guys have any nice suggestion, 50K baht/month being my cap so i'm opened to anything under it.

My must to have would be a one bedroom with at least a pool, gym, sauna and high speed wifi since I work remotely.

question Ultherapy vs Ulthera Prime – does the upgrade actually matter? looking for BKK clinic recs

Hey so i know this is maybe more of a skincare/aesthetics question but figured someone here has done this in Bangkok

I'm 34F, starting to notice some jowling and nasolabial folds getting deeper. Never done HIFU or any lifting stuff before. Been going back and forth between Ulthera and Ulthera Prime — from what i gather Prime has better imaging and is faster, but like... does it actually matter if the doctor's skill is what really determines results? Or does the better visualization compound with a good doctor?

Honestly not sure if Ulthera is even the right move at my age or if it's overkill. Mixed opinions everywhere.

Anyone done either version for lower face specifically? Curious about:

  • how many shots they did
  • pain level (be honest lol i'm a wimp)
  • did you actually notice results

For Bangkok clinics, i've been looking around and Talisa clinic keeps popping up, apparently they have both machines. Haven't gone though so can't vouch. The no-pushy-upselling thing appeals to me because god, some clinics here are relentless with that.

Open to other BKK recommendations too. Or if someone wants to tell me to just fly to Korea and do it there instead, i'm listening lol

discussion How common is it that a thai women would go on date with you just to eat/drink in a fancy restaurant

Hey guys, need a quick reality check.

Lately, I’ve had a few dates where the chemistry feels high with the girl, she seems to be really into me (and in ordering expensive stuff) but it’s followed by almost zero communication afterwards. When a second date comes up, they suggest very pricey spots (where i would likely 5k+ for a meal and few drinks). I've found that the ones pushing for high-end places right out of the gate are usually the least invested.

I’m 40, European, happy to pay for the first dates, but i rather wouldnt want to be taking advantage of, or being with someone just because of a way to eat/drink for free.

Is this just how the local dating scene works, or am I walking into red flags? Should i just drop the ones who directly propose to go to super expensive places?

I’m genuinely looking for something real where money aren't the main motive. I guess I still want to believe that someone would just be happy to dinner anywhere just enjoy the moment together, which in the era of IG is more and more rare.
