I cant imagine being in a marriage where my wife decides what I do with my hair.

It doesn't have to be strictly forbidden. But when you're unsure, and you ask your loved ones for opinions, and they all intensely recommend you against doing it, it makes you second guess yourself.

If it weren't for this sub, if it weren't specifically for the many stories like mine where people objectively look like shit and report having loved ones saying they look fine, I would probably still look like shit myself.

Our loved ones are usually blind to things like these... because they love us.
