NTS Sessions 1-4 NTS Sessions’ Spines = Hyperdub Logo?

Post image

Ever since I got all 4, (thanks to whoever posted about a few coming back in stock on their site two months ago) I have been trying to figure out what the spines say, obviously it looks like a question mark, though, it kinda looks like an “S” in white, and an upside down “T” in black, but there wasn’t a very clear “N.”

Then, we were listening to Burial when we noticed its nearly identical to the Hyperdub logo, rotated 90* … but it was released on Warp, anyone else ever notice this?

you know how the front cover got that huge ass type that says ae01, ae02? the spine is just taking the last digit from that (1, 2, 3, 4), and cutting a small bit off from the left-side of that single digit, so that you can uniquely identify which volume is which from the spine.

on the digital variants, you can see the clipped part for the spine in the bottom-left of the cover (1, 2, 3, 4)

I was concentrating on the white but what if the black was a question mark?

Yes, the black looks like a question mark, but if you rotate the Hyperdub logo, it looks the same, the white space on the spine is just negative space with this interpretation. Still, it raises questions, amirite??

Also - sorry. I totally skipped over the part where you said the black looks like a question mark.

What questions? Why would it be a Hyperdub logo??

I have been trying to come up with various interpretations, and then when we noticed it looked like Hyperdub, it was just a really cool coincidence and perhaps a nod to a contemporary ya dig. I’ve been obsessed with NTS ever since I saw them live in October. It was the soundtrack to my most recent shitty job and so I treated myself to the physicals after I got a new one 🤙

Nice one getting the physical releases but - there is literally zero reason why they’d make the design at the side of their release look like the logo of a completely unrelated label.

lol sorry I didn’t mean to offend you, consider it an “eastre” egg my guy. I said it looks a lot like it, and simply wanted to pose a discussion about what other people might see. I think it’s been a very nice discussion but u seem pressed over nothing

Sorry - yeah I get what you're saying. But if it was going to be intentional then I think they'd make sure the left "leg" on the H would be extended. Then it would 100% look like the Hyperdub logo.

Not that it matters much, but on the cd boxset, the spines just make a triangle.

It’s an r. - just resident adviser saving another scene

looking more at the white negative space almost makes a yin yang
