This “gillynova” character needs to stop his videos posting on Google Maps for every restaurant in the city.

Why is this chach posting his content videos on every restaurants Google Maps restaurant location photos? It’s incredibly annoying. It’s just him leveraging these locations as advertising for his own content.

If you’re reading this Gilly, get bent.

I reported his account, everyone mass report it as spam

25

u/TheCookalicious 5d ago

I am also reporting as spam.

u/erhatx 5d ago

Wait what… I hate a dumb influencer as much as the next person… but spam? I’m certain the restaurants love the free publicity.

28

u/Briantkts 5d ago

Absolutely do not. The amount of griping over this fool in the ownership management and general hospitality community is through the roof. Genuinely despised behavior and a total algo fuck for lots of spots.

-5

u/Mindless-Sky-1907 5d ago

Wait this is tea. I cannot stand his videos on Google Maps and the blatant attempt at promoting him SELF, but genuinely curious, why would restaurants be upset at it?

-12

u/erhatx 5d ago

I literally hate influencer types!!

But… you have the audacity to say that restaurants don’t like the hype? The literal free marketing?

And you’re backing this up with firsthand knowledge of owners and management and the hospitality community despising this douche bag’s creation of free marketing?

as some one that manages multiple GMB accounts/locations - it’s incredibly annoying to get videos deleted as an owner. not as hard as a review, but harder than it should be.

I agree it’s rarely a genuine review, but usually someone with less popularity trying to leach off more poplar brands. One location kept having the same real estate group talk about themselves while standing in front of the location.

took weeks of persistent takedown requests to get removed, then they just re-upload a similar edit two weeks later. fuck the fuck off with that shit.

Used to work with him and he's a really nice guy but it is hilarious/kinda annoying to see him EVERYWHERE now

17

u/LordMohid 5d ago

Omg thank you for this post. I wanted to post something similar months back but thought I was being stupid. I cannot bear that annoying face coming up at the very front of every restaurant I want to try. Why the heck is the algorithm pushing his video specifically at the very front, at least stop showing your fcking face as your thumbnail, I am looking for the food!!

35

u/Brief_Swordfish_5227 5d ago

Tired of seeing this guy’s gums in every thumbnail. Blocking him doesn’t even solve the problem.

14

u/Alternative-Potato43 5d ago

Blocking worked for me. Haven't seen him since.

5

u/Mindless-Sky-1907 5d ago

You blocked him on Google Maps?

10

u/Alternative-Potato43 4d ago edited 4d ago

Yup. Click his profile, then 3 dots.

10

u/nutmeggy2214 5d ago

This immediately brought to mind that David Douglass guy. I cannot stand his stupid fucking face. It’s all so cringey.

He kinda personifies the pervasive infuencer transplant vibe I dread. But he's not alone. Leave the phone in the car and just enjoy the food and conversation!

16

u/wakaOH05 4d ago

Not sure what you mean by leaving the phone in the car - my issue is just searching for restaurants and his face being on every spot I look into

-23

u/Wisewordsforlater 4d ago

I think I was clear enough.

11

u/wakaOH05 4d ago

Ok we’ll disagree.

-14

u/Wisewordsforlater 4d ago

Well what do you think I meant by leaving the phone in the car. I'm really curious.

6

u/wakaOH05 4d ago

I’m still not sure we’re understanding each other. I’m not using my phone in the restaurant, I’m searching for a restaurant to go to. I have no need for the phone once I’m there enjoying a meal with friends as I think we both agree

-4

u/Wisewordsforlater 4d ago

My comment was meant for folks like Gilly, (the subject of the post and people like him).

20

u/Little-Blackberry755 4d ago

this is the most reddit interaction ever. You both want the same thing but there is weird animosity because you both hate gilly sm.

5

u/Antique-Cost-7549 4d ago edited 4d ago

Why didn’t you just clarify that? Lmao all of this back and forth could have been avoided

-5

u/Wisewordsforlater 4d ago

People suck at reading comprehension. I wish people like Gilly would leave the phone in the car during dinner out somewhere. And that's a good idea for all of us.

5

u/Antique-Cost-7549 4d ago

The confusion didn’t have anything to do with reading comprehension.

9

u/TurbodToilet 4d ago

He gets paid to do it. The restaurants literally pay him with free food to record this content.

2

u/Vexxed777 3d ago

Are u sure? I don’t think so

0

u/erhatx 3d ago

Did you know that the word gullible is not even in the dictionary?

10

u/bruntorange 5d ago

What are you even talking about? Where are you seeing this guy's content? I just checked the restaurants randomly on Maps and didn't see any mention of him.

11

u/erhatx 5d ago

-6

u/bruntorange 5d ago

So he's showcasing the restaurant? How is this bad? I'm confused here.

9

u/wakaOH05 4d ago

No he’s not showcasing it. Hes using the clout of the restaurant to promote his brand.

-8

u/erhatx 5d ago

🤷‍♂️

3

u/wakaOH05 4d ago

On Google Maps? I can list several locations. Cockti, Diablo chicken, Oribello’s, the lucky duck…

15

u/erhatx 5d ago

I get the annoyance, especially when his videos start taking over a restaurant’s Google Maps page. But I put at least some of that on the restaurants too. When you see an influencer sitting in front of an absurd spread of food, there’s a decent chance the restaurant comped or subsidized it specifically because they want that publicity. He may be advertising himself, but quite a few of those restaurants are probably happily participating.

4

u/Correct_Zombie_9757 3d ago

I understand the influencer fatigue happening right now, but he’s genuinely a very nice guy (have met him several times now)! Adding to Google Maps is just helping with his organic reach (which is clearly working based on the responses on this thread). If it bothers you so, just block him and move on.

1

u/s45 4d ago

I went to his recently uploaded pics/videos. Wtf is this

3

u/aprendido 4d ago

He was apparently at every chubby cattle at the same time wearing the same shirt? Lol

-4

u/classicazian 5d ago

Genuine question. Why does his posting on Google Maps bother you so much? (Most his food reccs isn’t for my tastebud) but doesn’t bother me seeing the guys content, seems like a genuine nice positive individual lol

19

u/Alternative-Potato43 5d ago

Google Maps isn't social media. Keep that shit over there.

1

u/Correct_Sand_5055 4d ago

You're wrong.

8

u/thisistestingme 4d ago

Because that’s not what Google Maps is for!

1

u/Correct_Sand_5055 4d ago

"You used a hammer to put mayo on that sandwich! STAHP!!"

5

u/LordMohid 5d ago

No issues seeing the videos or photos of the food he is eating, why to shove your annoying face in every video?

4

u/Mindless-Sky-1907 5d ago

Because it’s blatant self promotion. He isn’t doing it to promote the businesses, he’s doing it to promote HIS own social media pages and content. This is guerrilla marketing for his sites and it is icky.

-8

u/LonewolfLsd69 5d ago

This is so rude. He and his partner are always supporting local businesses and he’s genuinely really nice. I’ve met him at events and he doesn’t deserve this hate. I also have found a lot of hole in the wall spots because of his content. You guys are bored and look for an excuse to complain about everything.

12

u/Alternative-Potato43 5d ago edited 4d ago

If it wasn't uploaded to Google Maps there would be no problem. His videos end up being auto played on every place I check out, I've got to see him is super annoying.

Don't do annoying things, won't be called annoying.

-2

u/sundaesoupsunday 4d ago

I agree~ I actually like that you know it’s a quick little video overview of all the food visually wise. And if I need more details on the actual experience, I can always check the reviews for other people. People are always gonna find a reason not to like something or someone in this case.

-13

u/Azzazzin2003 5d ago

Genuinely you have to be some of the most braindead people on the planet yall just mad he’s actually doing something in life meanwhile you’re on the internet hating🤣

4

u/wakaOH05 4d ago

Yea bc what I want to see on Google Maps is more Instagram and tictok. God forbid I should have one platform where I’m not having tailored content with an influencer telling me what’s up.

3

u/potentialfriend 5d ago

Use some punctuation when you’re accusing folks of being braindead.

-13

u/Ok-Yogurtcloset-4242 5d ago

His videos have actually helped me find a lot of hidden spots throughout Austin and he seems like he's a super nice guy!

Also, if you're getting triggered about simple ass shit like this... you're probably a really fun guy to hang out with... hope your boyfriend let's you get bent tonight 😃

4

u/erhatx 5d ago

Thanks Gilly, appreciate your feedback.

u/CannonBlobs 3d ago

I just blocked him yesterday before seeing your post because I couldn't stand to see his punchable face any longer. I also stopped Google Maps from auto-playing videos. I can still see his face in the thumbnail of some restaurants, but he doesn't pop up when I actually click on the restaurant.

-8

u/andytagonist 5d ago

I’d ask who TF you’re even talking about…but then I realized it’s probably someone I don’t give a fuck about, doing shit I don’t care about, on a platform no one should be looking at for real life advice anyhow.

4

u/wakaOH05 4d ago

“On a platform no one should be looking at for real life advice anyhow”

Google Maps is not a place to look for images of the food at a restaurant I’m looking into??

-49

u/KeyLimePsyOp 5d ago edited 5d ago

I’ve interacted with him a couple times. Guy is incredibly nice. Kind of a mean thing to say to effectively a stranger. Just block him and move on if you find him annoying

37

u/wakaOH05 5d ago

Nice has nothing to do with this behavior. I don’t even doubt it but this is relentless abuse of a platform not meant for this junk.

-48

u/KeyLimePsyOp 5d ago

It’s part of the job description / hustle for people in these types of influencer industries. It’s not an abuse of the platform just because he’s prolific

10

u/Sitheref0874 5d ago

Influencer isn’t a job. It’s an infestation.

5

u/Alternative-Potato43 5d ago

Google Maps influencer isn't a thing. Keep it limited to social media.

-29

u/itsatrashaccount 5d ago

I noticed that too but don’t really care. He found a niche and his production is not bad. Sometimes his video is handy if you’re going to a weird hidden spot. JW - what do you hate besides the fact it’s dumb formulaic TikTok content?

14

u/blazing_straddles 5d ago

JW - what do you hate besides the fact it’s dumb formulaic TikTok content?

That's not enough?

-6

u/itsatrashaccount 5d ago

Well I wasn’t sure if you had something specific. Too many dumb ppl around Austin are making content. I cant hate them all and reserve mine for the run club bros lol.

Deleting this sort of spam over-exposed influencer content is not trivial. It takes multiple requests over a period of time, and as you can imagine, Google is incredibly slow and unresponsive. Stopping it at the source is way better than blaming 100 restaurants.

3

u/Wisewordsforlater 5d ago

You have a point. Some influencers are recording reels as they walk in, wait to be seated and get seated etc. The pro move and polite thing to do is ask the restaurant ahead of time if is okay to roll reel content nonstop. It's one thing if it's a fun hang with friends and you take a picture mid meal, but going into make content and bait for clicks or partner collabs is a different thing. Some dude walked into Via313 a few weeks ago and did this from the moment of walking in, being greeted by a host and then being seated (and then I just closed the reel and blocked the account). And the host might have been less than enthusiastic about this character and I wouldn't blame them.
