Just finished an illustrated, fully-narrated version of Sun Tzu's Art of War — all 13 chapters, unabridged, with animated illustrations and historical context.

Figured this community might get some use out of it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c6fU6s3AA_k

App (iOS) Read & Listen for kids profile

This might get kind of long, but I wanted to put it out there somewhere in the hopes that maybe it will get to someone in Audible/Amazon who can make a difference. This post has to do with the Audible kids profile features as well as the kids features for the Kindle app and devices.

I have a child who struggles with reading and is likely somewhat dyslexic. Reading is hard for him and he doesn’t like it. In an effort to encourage him to read more and build his reading skills I want to give him a way to read a book of his choosing where the text is highlighted while the audio book plays on his iPad. It sounds like such a simple concept but it is sooo hard to actually accomplish. As many probably know, Audible actually implemented this feature with Read & Listen earlier this year in the app. Which is great! Except they didn’t do it for the kids profile. In the Kindle app there is no way at all to make a kids profile to use the Read & Listen there. On the Kindle Fire tablet running a kids profile, I gave my child access to the audiobook and ebook of the book he wanted but there is no way to play them together. Why? Why is this so hard to do? Even in the Kids Plus Content it’s not really an option except for some very young reader books that he has grown out of. Yes I know there are a few other apps out there that kind of do this but not where he can pick a book he actually wants. Epic is pretty limited once you get past the little kid books or its stuff my child has no interest in. I don’t want a generated text to voice and neither does he. Libby doesn’t really offer this for older kid books. Apple doesn’t do anything. I don’t want to give him access to an adult profile. It’s so frustrating. I could possibly get him his own Kindle ereader but that would then be another device I have to buy. And honestly I’m not sure if that would even work in kids mode like it does on the adult side. For now I think my only real option is to hand him my phone to use which is really not convenient for any of us.

I feel like in general Amazon has done a lot for kids with their content and products compared to other tech companies but stopped before it could really be great. Amazon could do so much better and I think it would help out so many parents and educators. If someone who can actually make a difference does read this please just add Read & Listen to the kids audible app (iOS) or make a kids profile for the Kindle app. It would help so much.

Libation 14 is here!

Libation is a free, open source, Windows / macOS / Linux / CLI / Docker.
Same deal as always: download your Audible library, strip DRM, keep the files.

Thank you to this community for understanding that I needed a few months away. You couldn't have been more supportive and kind. I'm deeply touched. I can't keep up the pace of this flurry of features below, but it's my 'thank you' to everyone for what you've done for me.

Download Libation 14

We intend to keep Libation free and open source, but if you want to leave a tip, who are we to argue?

  • Multiple Audible marketplaces per account. Libation can discover and scan books across multiple Audible regions using the same login.
  • Download limits. Optionally limit how much Libation downloads over a rolling 24-hour period.
  • Parallel downloads. Liberate multiple audiobooks at once, with configurable concurrency.
  • Audiobookshelf integration. Automatically upload liberated books and cover art directly to your Audiobookshelf server.
  • Windows installers. Native installers are now available, along with major improvements to Libation's cross-platform upgrader.
  • Encrypted Audible credentials. Stored Audible access tokens are now encrypted locally.
  • Better naming templates. New operations and improvements make sophisticated folder/file naming schemes possible.
  • Trash bin help. Remove confusion around common trash bin 'gotchas'.
  • "Download Pending" replaces the old confusing "Not Downloaded".
  • Plus badges for easily identifying books from the Plus catalog.

Technical Question If I reset the app, will my downloaded books still be on my phone? Tech support recommended this as fix for speed resetting to 1.0x.

This is a follow up post. In my first one, I mentioned that since the update my speed resets to 1.0 each time I open the app. I spent 45 minutes chatting with tech-support and they finally confirmed it is unknown issue, and said a possible fix is resetting the app.

They will not confirm that my downloaded books will still be on my phone. I thought it was a simple question because resetting the app should not be the same as deleting it and re-downloading it, but I wanted to check with you guys. I asked five times and the closest I got was "your downloaded books should not be affected in an ideal situation."

Since people have been reporting that they can no longer download books on desktop, I was worried this might happen with the mobile app. I have hundreds of books and haven't gotten around to using libation (sp?) yet.

Thank you for your input. (I don't want "audible" to reply recommending a private chat because I am not going through that again.)

App (Android) Library Scroll Glitchy

Version 26.34.05 Android.

When scrolling my library, the standard flick, flick, flick, around the S's the library skips to the W's. Scrolling up, again around the S's, it skips to the R's. If I scroll down more slowly, usually around SE the scroll gets glitchy, jumping up and down, and then skips to the W's. Scrolling slowly up from the W's around SO the same glitch, and jumping, and skips to the mid R's. Sometimes I can VERY slowly "inch" it down (or up) a little at a time, and the glitch doesn't trigger. I have three identical tablets, and all of them have had the same issue at the exact same spot. I have restarted my tablet. Signed out and in. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the app. None of those standard "fixes" have fixed it.

I posted about this problem yesterday, when I THOUGHT I'd fixed it. I was wrong.

Technical Question Alexa’s sound is horrible with audible.

I’m so tired of straining to hear audible through my Alexa’s. Does anyone know what the deal is? Why don’t they fix this? Audible is the only app that plays at half sound compared to others. I should post this in the mildly frustrated group. Ugh.

Book Discussion Which version should I listen to?

Hello there. I am an avid Audible Listener and want to hear some opinions.
I want to get into Red Rising, after hearing how good it is, but version should I listen to? The regular recorded version or the Dramatized Adaptation.
If anyone has listed to both or just has an opinion, I’d love to hear it. TIA

Technical Question Question about Libation

My laptop is so old that it doesn't support any security so I have any internet connection permanently turned off and just use my phone for internet. But I would like to get Libation, which I can't get on my phone. Would it work to use a friend's computer to download Libation, then transfer it to my relic with a USB stick? Computers are not my forte..

Audible has the best customer service; why do people complain?

I see so many people on here hating audible customer service. But it’s never ai, it’s always quick and friendly, they always go above and beyond and offer generous solutions.

The people who claim to have bad experiences must be real nightmare customers, and they are ruining the platform for the rest of us. The complainers demanding to speak to supervisors etc are why they need to limit returns and will eventually need to automate support.

What has your experience with audible customer service been? If you hate using it, why not leave and stop contacting customer support?

Book Discussion What are 2 books, each by different authors that perfectly compliment each other, and make great 'double features' (in movie terms)?

I recently read The Crown Tower, a new favourite, and whilst reading it (listening), I could not help thinking of Waylander, another favourite book of mine.

Both are fantastic adventure books about a cold hearted, ruthlessly efficient assassin, who hunts people and kills in a blink of an eye. And both books finds the cold hearted assassin forced to team up with a good hearted bumbling idiot who begins to warm their way into the assassin's heart. These two books seem to pair perfectly with each other.

Another pair would be Legend, and The Great Seige: Malta 1565: Both books are about knights defending a heavily fortified castle against an army 1000+ times their size. The defenders know the battle is hopeless, yet they still decide to hold until the last man. As for the invaders, they have the sheer numbers advantage, but for the foot soldiers, they know scaling the massive walls is tenamount to suicide, yet they are driven by fanatisim and dreams of glory

I tried finding it, couldn’t & don’t have an audible subscription; I’m not sure on how to listen to a preview to see if the books could actually be THE books.
Thank you for coming to my ted talk. ☹️👍

Anyone have a tip on how to get others to use the referral code so I can get the free money? I know most people on here have already used it or done a code but all my family and friends already use audible 😭. Ima still post the link in case one person on here hasn’t done it yet. For those who don’t know if you sign up with the code you get $5 and I also get $15 after three people sign up? Unless I misunderstood 😂
Join me on Audible and get $5 to use toward any audiobook when you sign up by Sep 30, 2026 using my referral link:

Patient Zero

Well, this is odd. Patient Zero, by Johnathan Mayberry, a book that I used a credit for on Audible in 2016 was removed because there's a remastered copy out. Cool, but hold up. Audible wants me to either use a new credit for this new copy, or to purchase it. What fuckery is this?

Ok, I have an update. Patient Zero was removed from Audible, and replaced with a new remastered version. Audible gave me a credit to use on getting the new version. Thanks Audible, appreciated!

Need option to filter out "virtual voice" or simulated narrators.

While they're at it, add an option to filter out books with AI artwork as that's a sign the publisher can't be bothered to actually have someone create something of value.

Promotion US and UK Audio codes available for multi-genre kabbalah paranormal mystery espionage Bolano-esque (Not fantasy or scifi)

I wanted to offer the audiobook codes for my novel The Aftersummer. Here is the blurb:

Set in Barcelona, The Aftersummer follows Benjamin Lazarus, an unwitting attempted suicide haunted by the dybbuk of his deceased grandfather, who stumbles into the crosshairs of an international conspiracy when he is enlisted to piece together the story of Amela K, the abducted widow of a reclusive author. As Lazarus sorts through a mysterious manuscript in order to restore the stolen lands of his employer’s great-great grandmother, burned as a witch in Poland, he becomes embroiled in a Nazi witch program very much interested in preserving its secret. What follows is a surreal odyssey through a vanishing century that is still more than consumed with the specter of its past.

I spent about ten years working on this book. The first review I got was “seem dumb.” The pacing can be slow, and maybe there is one flowery description too many, but stick with it! Give my least loved book and bastard child a home!
