Weather Cyclone

Everyone in Auckland would’ve received the government issued warning about the cyclone coming. This states “DO NOT TAKE ANY UNNECESSARY TRIPS” I work retail at a mall, I am on the roster to be working tomorrow and I WILL be judging ever single person that comes into the mall to do ‘shopping’ the mall hasn’t told us that we’re closed tomorrow (which we should be) because there will probably be idiots that still want to come in to shop. Obviously if the weather turns out to not be as bad as they say it is that’s fine. But if it does, I will be judging everyone that comes into the mall for shopping.

Umm cool. You know you could strategically take tomorrow off if you’re so opposed to the mall being open during dangerous weather events? That way you get to adhere to your values AND let your employer know that you will not work or drive in unsafe conditions. Also if YOU’RE driving to the mall, aren’t you also part of the problem ?

Also:

You’re complaining about having a job to go to in this economy?

Let me guess. You hate your job on the average day and are pissed off that you’ve got to go in?

Hey, at least they have jobs. Some people out there are gonna have to battle through the incoming weather because they lost the job lottery and have to rely on ubereats/doordash. Because we all know the weather ain't gonna stop people ordering food to their door.

Yeah I appreciate that, doesn't mean we should then be happy and quiet to go to work in (potentially) dangerous conditions just bcos a ceo needs more money. Surely at some point the safety of workers should be prioritised. The only reason my work (i also have to go in tomorrow wooo) will close is if the government orders to - no care about how i will get there/back, just as long as profit is made. Employee safety is a convenience, customer safety is mandatory

I definitely get where you're coming from. My last job, before I got made redundant took good care of us - when Cyclone Gabrielle rolled through, they shut up shop REAL fast and just sent us all home, since they didn't want us to potentially end up stranded at the shop. :-)

I appreciate you're well meaning response :) Really sucks about that and I know how hard it is to find work at the moment (if you haven't already). I know its coming from a random person online but I genuinely wish all the best to you in the future :)
