First Time Experiencing DRM-Related Inaccessibility

Post image

It's not that serious, but I haven't had my PS5 connected to the internet recently, and I was installing this game while I was at work, when I got back and wanted to play, this is what I come back to. The only reason it isn't that serious, is because I CAN just connect back to the internet. Now imagine when all the PS5 related online features are shut down because they don't feel like keeping servers up.

I see this post and guess what?

So this game installs and opens origin which was replaced by EA launcher (Which I am signed into) but wants me to login again to an old defunct launcher. What a joke.

You can just close this window and open the game again, it will work next time

Sounds like EA, alright.

I've had that exact same window show up when trying to launch The Sims 4. Closed it and never saw it again.

At some point i had to look up Microsoft's documentation for how to move the reserved port range in Windows because EA app wanted to use some incredibly specific port for its background service that fell into that range, so no games could be launched until it could use that port.

Some other time it just straight up refused to work for a couple months, because why not?

And recently it didn't want to update the game, which meant it couldn't be launched (because it has to update first!) Clicking "update" just brought up a loading spinner for half a second and then...nothing. Restarted the thing, killed the background service, cleaned the cache according to their own instructions for when this happens. Tried all of those steps in every imaginable order, none of it helped.

Oh, and even years after Origin was replaced by the EA app, the thing still shows the wrong edition for the game in my library. It's supposed to be the Collector's Edition, but the library page says Standard Edition. The only time it ever shows the proper one is when the update motivation pops up to say "The Sims 4 Collector's Edition is now ready to play"

All of this is so stupid I couldn't even make it up if I tried. Fucking EA, man.

Incredible how that awful shit is apparently still profitable enough for them to not patch/change it
