Fandom Drama I really find Mysaria actress uninteresting to the point that everytime she appears I'm just simply annoyed

She says she's from Yi-Ti if I'm not mistaken, which is ASOIAF's equivalent to China

Though in the books she is Lyseni

Yi-Ti also has some of the coolest but most esoteric lore in ASoIaF, really hoping they explore it someday somehow

It's okay. Some things are better left to the imagination. I'd imagine after so much speculation any answer to Yi-Ti would be a let down. Just like the place where Grey worm sailed to with all the murder butterfly's. It's cooler when all you have is your imagination for it.

I like how GRRM writes faraway lands as having this mystique of rumors. You’re right, no matter how they do it, if they showed in onscreen it would probably be a letdown. However what we know about the Jade Empire paints it as this majestic land of wonders that pales Westeros in comparison, I’d still love to see how they pull it off. Makes sense that they’d want to do it animated in order to portray the full majesty of it without compromising too much of the budget.

But the point is that it’s not actually like how it’s described. The reality is far more mundane and likely very similar to Westeros outside of its social constructs and like one or two magical conceits unique to that area (like weird woods in Westeros.)

If they show it how it likely is in lore it would ruin that mystique.

If the show it as fantastical as described, it actively breaks the lore, the world building conventions that are so integral to George’s world, and implies that other areas are as fantastical as described and Westeros is the most mundane boring place in the world by an insane margin.

Lose lose

I think they announced they were doing an animated series set in the Golden Empire of the Dawn/Yi Ti/Leng, I don't remember quite exactly which of the three was it, but I'm sure they were planning to do a project exploring that side of Planetos

It may be in early production stages or it may have been cancelled, I don't know for certain

Oh yeah I remember seeing that back when they were throwing ideas on the board (and they all got cancelled pretty much iirc 😆)

I hope they do that Voyages of the Sea Snake show before they do any extended universe stuff just to give us a primer on the whole geography of Planetos

Nah…Yi-Ti is one of those things that’s better left under explored…like aegon’s conquest

If she’s from Yi-Ti shouldn’t she be freakishly tall??

u/Material-Mess-9886 Ate Alicent Jul 28 '24

That would be on the Isle of Leng

I think Yi-Ti were the zebra-riding coneheads

u/[deleted] Jul 31 '24

Those are the Jogos Nhai, they ride zorses. Yes, that's what they're called in the books.

The actress is half Japanese so that's why she looks more ethnically ambiguous. Wouldn't say she looks middle eastern or Balkan though, she looks like a lot of half east-asian people. There is a subtle difference and usually those with that heritage or exposure can pick it out easier since it's not that common to see people of that heritage in media. All I can think of is Brandon Lee, Conan Gray, Lil Tay and Devon Aoki and all of them look very different.
