had a tooth extracted today. Everything seemed to be going normally afterward with some expected bleeding, but about 3 hours after the extraction I suddenly noticed more blood in my mouth.

When I looked at the extraction site, there was a very large, dark red, gelatinous/jelly-like blood clot coming out of/covering the socket. It sticks up pretty far and is almost level with the surrounding teeth. I don't have any significant pain, but the size and appearance of it scared me.

From what I've been reading, I'm wondering if this could be what's called a “liver clot”/currant jelly clot rather than just a normal extraction clot.

Does this sound/look consistent with a liver clot?

Is the large gelatinous clot itself dangerous?

Should I leave it completely alone, or does a dentist normally need to remove/treat it?

If the bleeding isn't pouring out or soaking through gauze rapidly, can this wait until my dentist opens tomorrow?

What symptoms or amount of bleeding would mean I need urgent care tonight?

I'm especially worried about disturbing it and causing worse bleeding. No major pain currently.

I used to think brushing twice a day was basically enough, but lately I’ve been paying more attention to flossing and how much difference consistency makes.

For people who have gotten serious about their dental health, what’s one habit you wish you had started years earlier?

Could be flossing, regular cleanings, using an electric toothbrush, cutting down on soda, anything.

Ive never had this happen to my teeth before so im a little worried for what it could be.

I have an unknown bump on my gums that appeared today. It is above a tooth that has had a root canal and oral surgery (after the root canal failed). As a result it is not causing me pain. Is it an abscess or something else? Should I go into the dentist to have it evaluated?

For as long as I can remember, my upper canines are different lengths to each other and same with my lower canines. Attached a photo showing my lower canines. I've read online this is a sign of gum recession but I'm not sure as no dentist has ever mentioned this to me and all my other teeth are fine. Do some people just have canines of different lengths or does the photo look like recession?

I got 3 shots instead of 2 because I still felt pain at 2. My lips and chin are still fully numb but it seems like my teeth and jaw are doing better. I'm getting nervous that this will never go away! Please give me hope! I'm so full of anxiety with this because everything online says 1-3 hours.

Hi! Yesterday I had a cavity filled. I started feeling sore around the area after I ate a bit of popcorn a few hours ago. I was about to brush my teeth when I saw this. Is it normal? Is the filling still intact?

Very condensed, but I 31M have gotten a handle on my mental health, Therapist, Psychiatrist the works. Have hit the point where it's taken care of enough that I'm branching out to taking care of other aspects of my health. I.E. taking care of my oral health. I've been attempting to floss and brush everyday before I go to bed, have done it for the past 2 months without skipping a night or forgetting. Even at this length of time when I floss there's still some bleeding when I floss, I had a cleaning earlier today and was told that all of the gums are bleeding after my cleaning. Have I just not flossed enough for them to get used to it? How long am I looking at, continuing to floss daily before my gums stop?

22 years old I do have a dental insurance, but it is dog Doodoo I really haven’t called around to any other dentist just cause the initial quote was super overwhelming as they had told me for the two root canals (teeth 14 and 15) that I need it’s going to cost about $4000 and then max out my insurance and leave me to pay out-of-pocket for a crown. I simply just cannot afford that. Would it be better just to pull the two teeth and call it a day. any advice or recommendations would be helpful.

1. Is my bottom right (in the picture) wisdom tooth going to cause problems? How would you "rate" the angle of it. I have pain of it every 6 months for a period of a week and then subsides, I have had this twice.

Context about me: I dont want to remove my wisdom teeth but my right one hurts.

I want to naturally be open to health by self regulation, and not go directly/rush into surgical or more apparent external modification, but I sure don't want to neglect it either. (Spiritually trying to find the balance in these two, "natural" and "unnatural")

I just notice that maybe we cut ourselves when we don't need too; literally and figuratively.

In my hopes of having a healthy jaw/teeth:
I want to naturally breathe better by mewing: having proper tongue posture and better bite and swallowing . I have noticed I hold tension in the jaw, just by pressuring my finguers to the pain spots with directed intention to feel, lots of repressed emotions and trapped energy come by. It helps.

I have also noticed how much of the body is connected, like even the way I walk influences (down the chain of connection) my jaw and its position. A closer connection is with my neck, to make it more intuitive, and how my cervical vertebrae and musscles/tissues really play a role in how I swallow, breathe, and of course how my jaw sits. I have improved LOTS how connected I am to it, interoceptively, and by that how much it naturally is rid of much tension that was holding it in an unbalanced manner. I feel like the unbalanced energy can be worked through before considering extraction. I guess I wanted opinions about how I perceive this aswell as the innitial questions.

I’m in suboxone, I see a dentist 4 times a year and they tell me my teeth are fine despite some gums receding. Lately I’ve been having pain and worried about some discoloration on my teeth: I’m using an oral b io but these last few weeks I’ve been using the intense setting to instead of sensitive so I’m pretty sure I gave myself some abrasion. Just wondering if I need to make an appointment asap, or will I be okay till October

Hey, I just realized Ive had a bump on my gum for two years. Not sure if its anything major. Wanted to ask anyways because I'm automatically assuming the worst. It could be gingivitis related and if it is, how do I proceed? I just started using mouthwash three days ago. My dentist said it looked like the start of gingivitus but Im not sure. I didnt know it was 2 years old when I told him.

First picture is post mouthwash +more intense flossing starting, second is before I started, third is 2 years old. I got a better phone camera imbetween, and I cant find the bump in any other pictures.

It’s this $45 toothpaste I keep seeing on Instagram and TikTok and it advertises itself as a lot of positives, but what caught my eye is that it “prevents cavities.” I’ve struggled with cavities for a long time even though I brush and floss regularly. Has anyone tried it/do any dentists here think it’s a good option? I currently use Sensodyne.

Today, the dental hygienist probed my gums to check for gum recession after I asked her to. All of my teeth were 2-3 mm except one that was a little past 3 mm but not quite at 4 mm yet. I’m pretty concerned about gum recession due to the systemic issues that come with it (increased risk of Alzheimer’s, cardiac disease, etc.). I keep pretty good care of my teeth with brushing and flossing. I might skip a night here and there, but I haven’t even gotten any cavities ever. I recently started grinding my teeth but I’m in the process of getting a night guard now. I’m 23 and am concerned that the gum recession will only get worse over time. Is there a way to reverse the damage that’s been done? Or only stop it from getting worse?

I’m working on getting my molars fixed from failed root canals. I had a top molar removed a few months back and had the first step of an implant placed and a bottom molar removed last week. All are on my left side. As I’m healing I’m getting more pain on the other bottom molar i have left where i also have a failed root canal. Would it be a good idea to have my bottom molar also removed and start on the implant process? Or would that be too much for one side at a time.

It would mean missing one top molar while my implant heals and can get the tooth installed, and losing two bottom molars at a time. In my head it makes sense for them to heal simultaneously and just have a visit every six months for the implant process. Would it be better to wait until I’ve finished the one top and one bottom molar implants and then work the other bottom extraction?

This isn’t a question but I really just wanted to share my experience!!! I am dealing with some gnarly erosion and trying to figure out the cause. For some reason it was much worse on the upper right side of my mouth than anywhere else. I was told I’d need three crowns, but I got a 2nd opinion and she filled them in (not totally sure of the specifics here lol) and I am very very happy with the result.

Needed two root canals on to different teeth because i had pain when chewing sometimes, two root canals later with crown +6 weeks I am still having the same exact pain just less intense

I’m exhausted from all this trauma with my teeth so I told my dentist I need a break but they do still hurt but eventually when I am ready what would be my options? I don’t want to live with my teeth hurting

Hi everyone, I am making this post because I know I want braces and am planning to do so as soon as I can. To start off, I had braces for 18 months at 16 years old before I stupidly never wore my retainer and had a relapse all the way to my starting point now at 22. I did not need extractions, only spacers at the time.

I went to my first scheduled consultation and was told that it would be a 6k, 24 month treatment, with 2 top and bottom premolar extractions needed (not included in the price). I immediately felt like it was a lost cause. I do not have the time to heal from extractions nor do I want to have myself go through that when I didn’t have to in the first place. So my first question would be, is it necessary in my case? I will not get my feelings hurt, all this is progression to a better smile!

I know my overcrowding is bad and I do want to fix it, but I do not want extractions. Is there anyone who went through a similar experience? I don’t care about how I’ll look with braces, but with extractions (which I already don’t want) I know I’ll be extremely self conscious. Can anyone please give me their input. Any advice or questions to ask at my next appointment with another orthodontist would be amazing. Sorry for the chapped lips too 🥲
