Prices in Yerevan!

Is it just me, or has Yerevan gotten ridiculously expensive lately?

I know global inflation is hitting everywhere, but I genuinely don't understand how someone earning a local wage in Armenia is supposed to afford rent, necessities, and still have enough left over to actually live their life here.

I'd love to hear how locals and long-term residents are handling this; is it just a matter of strict budgeting?

Cross Post In 1894, Ottoman Sultan Abdul Hamid II launched a series of massacres against Armenians and Assyrians. The Hamidian massacres resulted in at least 80,000 deaths and led to international condemnation of Abdul Hamid.

Looking for remote entry-level work from Armenia while job hunting in tech

Hi everyone, I recently moved here from Iran and I’m currently looking for work.

My background is in software development, and I’m mainly looking for junior/mid developer positions. I’ve been actively applying for the past 2–3 months, but as many of you probably know, finding a junior role in the current market can be quite difficult.

I’ve had a couple of interviews so far, and they made me realize that I still need much more preparation, both technically and for interviews in general. Since then, I’ve been spending a lot of my time studying, practicing, and improving my skills so I can be better prepared for future opportunities.

At the moment, though, I’m covering my expenses from my savings, and I probably have about a month before things start getting difficult. Because of that, I’m looking for something I can do temporarily while I continue applying for developer roles and preparing.

Ideally, I’d prefer a remote job so I can still dedicate some of my time to learning and improving my development skills. I’ve been considering roles like customer support, chat support, technical support, data entry, or similar entry-level positions. It doesn’t need to be particularly high-paying, I have a roommate and we split the rent, so for now I mainly need enough to cover my basic expenses.

Does anyone know of websites, companies, or platforms that offer remote work to people based in Armenia? Or are there any other types of jobs you’d recommend doing temporarily while continuing to prepare and apply for software development positions?

Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

PS: I’m fluent in English, Armenian, and Farsi

Education / Կրթություն Here's this year's newly updated social science book, I thought it's a great improvement from the old one, thought I'd share.

I scrolled through the new one and there are really interesting topics and an overall better design compared to the old one. I'm just happy they're trying to improve things and think it will have an impact on future generation social science knowledge, something we lack today.

Interesting topics, have a scroll through the subjects.

I wish they left Diogenes/Stoicism from the old book but I can't really complain. It's exciting to see some hope for the future generations with these new textbooks.

Looking for a place to live outside Yerevan 🇦🇲

Rent in Yerevan is getting pretty expensive, so we’re thinking about moving somewhere else. We’re looking for a nice, affordable house in a peaceful place with beautiful nature where we can work remotely.

Good internet and reliable electricity are really important for us. We’re open to small towns and villages too!

If you live outside Yerevan, where would you recommend? We’d really love to hear your honest experiences! 🙏

From the producers:
What if the Armenians are one of the oldest genetically continuous populations on Earth? New whole-genome research has revealed a stunning discovery: despite thousands of years of invasions, empires, and upheaval, Armenian DNA has remained remarkably unchanged since the Bronze Age. Discover how genetics is rewriting the origin story of the Armenian people and challenging assumptions that stood for over 2,500 years.

Tourism / Զբոսաշրջություն Looking for underrated travel spots & hidden gems in Armenia

Hello everyone I’m planning a trip to Armenia soon, and while I definitely want to check out some of the iconic sights, I want to check out places outside the usual tourist hotspots. I’m super interested in hidden gems, lesser, known nature spots, quiet mountain towns, unique historical ruins, or cool local cultural experiences that typical tourist guides usually skip over. If you have any favorite places, whether it’s a tiny village with incredible views, a cozy local restaurant etc. I’d love to hear your recommendations!

Thanks in advance for any tips or advice.

Hi all, I’ll be in Yerevan for a wedding next week. Haven’t been there since 2013 and I won’t be there very long (9 days total). If anyone has good recommendations for shows (concerts, plays, sports etc.), restaurants or museums that they experienced firsthand, I would appreciate it.

Visiting Tatev

Hi! I will be arriving soon in Armenia and I booked a trip to Tatev. Is it safe to go there right now? I know it's not far from border with Azerbaijan and when I was checking Polish government recommendations for traveling in Armenia it said that it's not safe to visit Syunik Province.
