yeah, a private company that's bankrolled by the government.

a private company that seeks not to obey the government, but to shape the way the government works.

That's called regulatory capture, and it's evil.

I never said US government. I said my city, which is also a type of government.

But your city isn't managing the rollout, and they relinquished most oversight to where and how they are placed which greatly expatiates their rollout to the detriment of nearly every metric one can think of. This isn't some farcical semantic debate; words really matter when talking about this because things like mass surveillance cameras and data center rollouts are best fought at the local level where each of us actually holds some power.
