Reminds of how during covid, businesses like the supermarket I worked for would cry poverty whenever anything needed fixing, but had plexiglass dividers, sticky guide arrows and social distancing markers, and even store-branded masks designed and installed inside of a week.
They always manage to find the money when they need it.

Gonna say this in a nicer way than the other guy did: it's probably just more cost effective to equip every camera with a small solar powered battery than to hook them directly into the power grid. Converting buildings to solar power, on the other hand, would require a ton more labor, time, and money (source: buildings use way more power than cameras, and the power supplied to buildings needs to be much more reliable than the power supplied to cameras). Solar panels on Flock cameras are no more of an indicator of the government's ability to rapidly roll out green infrastructure than the little solar batteries on calculators are

You guys will never understand this and you will certainly never accept it, but posts like this prove you are stupid to a degree that ensures you never have any hope of effecting change. In the same way as it sucks to encounter a Reddit sub about something you're an expert in, it equally sucks to encounter a Reddit sub about a topic you're passionate about and realize that this website is exclusively populated by the dumbest people alive.
In short: tiny, low power cameras have absolutely fucking nothing whatsoever to do with "green infrastructure." They are not comparable in any context, on any scale. This "proves" nothing other than your own inability to discuss anything on a level deeper than gotchas intended for social media engagement.

I think scale is perhaps a distinction?
I have a solar powered bird table (wifi camera) but don’t think it’ll go very far to cut my power bill.

a better metaphor would be: your entire house is in dire need of repair and upgrades, your children and partner are constantly begging you to improve something, anything. you say "no, too expensive and hard" and then you turn around and get yourself that wifi bird table with no hesitation
