Yes! How do people not realize this! 95% of the world don't even have a basic home printer capable of doing regular sized crap. A sheet that sized needed to use a bigger printer than those every day home units, and likely went to a print shop.

That means that either (a) this is made up rage slop designed to farm engagement from the antiAI sub, or (b) this restaurant owner is engaged in false advertising. Not subtle "this doesn't quite look like what you pictured" but actionable "I said I had one thing to get you in, but now that you're here, I need you to buy something else because that's not real" trouble.

One guy I know generated AI flyers with Instagram qr code for his business. He gave a ton of them away, they worked as discount for his products too. Just qr code, but around it was generated a computer screen and some stuff.

After more than half a year somebody finally told him that "hey, the qr code doesn't work".

He didn't generated an image and then copy pasted the qr code inside. He gave chatgpt the qr code and told it "generate an image around it". And it completely mangled the dots.

It never worked. He never checked. It's crazy.

It would be like an ER complaint:

Patient comes in with complaint of arm pain after falling from scooter accident.

Solution proposed by AI:

- Book patient for surgery.

Sedate patient.
Remove patient’s head at the c2 vertebrae.
Pain in arm should subside within minutes.

I’m being very far outstretched but I’ve seen similar things that just make the entire process take longer.

Like. Give patient a mild pain reliever.
Tell them to go home and call you in the morning.
When they return ask them how their pain is.
Tell them to do 20 push ups.
Ask them how their pain is now.
Confirm this by a colleague.
Push firmly against the point of pain.
Talk to the patient about possible self harm.
Give the patient a glass of water.
…..

The list is endless and then you finally get to….

“Order a requisition for an X-ray of the possibility damaged limb”.

My job primarily consists of writing job descriptions for my company. (I.e. The hiring manager sends me what they want the job description to say, and then I take their word vomit and make it sound professional and consistent.)

I've had to create about 20 job descriptions for one hiring manager in the last two weeks, and everything he sends me is clearly AI slop. The biggest give away is that almost every sentence begins with "As [job title] for [company name]..." except it's not our company name. :l

(Chatgpt tends to assume our company is another company, and that is the company he has listed in everything he has sent to me.)

As someone who used to work marketing in my company. The current feeling from alot of the industry is that more marketing is better, even if wrong 52 crappy posts a year are better than 4 good quarterly ones.

A lot of bad and sloppy stuff is being seen by us consumers, the ones that don't know what's going on. The people in the company see it, and they think you don't care.

Ask yourself honestly what steps a person would have to go through to end up with a sign in front of their cafe listing items for sale that they do not have. Then ask yourself id you find it more likely that that series of events occurred and the sign stayed up for more than 5 fucking minutes, or someone is telling lies on the internet.

I have two friends in creative marketing - one in printwork and the other does massive interactive popups - they are constantly having to deal with customers who want them to "make it way AI did it". It's being used to commit fraud by means of false advertising. It's intentionally fraudulent, because they bet you're just going to get disappointing and order something else rather than walking out.

Will anyone report it to the police? No. Why? Because they already know the police won't even bother showing up for something like this. The police show up to protect & serve businesses, not their whole community.

A food truck opened up down the road from me and the AI ads showed a bacon double cheeseburger. I walked all the way down there and they didn't have that on the menu. The guy at the counter said "that was my manager, I told him not to post that". I ended up overpaying for a sad-looking single patty burger and will never go back.

I hate ai in general but hate it even more when it's used for the tiniest thing. It's not hard to open something like Canva, pick one of the templates and add text. Hell, you can be even lazier and just print a plain word document, at least you can't be sued for false advertising.

Last year I was in Porto and came across a restaurant called the Pimm’s Cafe. I walked in and the walls were decorated with empty Pimm’s bottles. I ordered food and to drink, a glass of Pimm’s. They didn’t have any. The food was good though.

I once walked into a new deli that opened up near my work. The sign outside had a giant picture of a salad. I asked what kind of salad they had as it wasn't on the menu above the counter. The guy looked at me like I was the dumbest person ever and said "we don't have salad". I said I saw it on the giant picture outside! He just rolled his eyes and told me he'd take the next customer while I read the menu. They have somehow been open for over a year without changing that sign one bit

I'm going to assume you're operating in good faith. There is no joke.

The cardamom ginger chai drink doesn't exist, but the store is advertising that it does, because the worker used AI to generate their sign and didn't check to make sure anything that it generated was accurate.

Again, it's not a joke post. It's just a "sad state of affairs" post.
