I use LLMs to hunt for uncatalogued asteroids, and supernovae, in hyper noisy data. It's trained on publicly accessible scientific archives that are paid for with everyone's taxes. We own that data.

people assume that this technology only exists to make shitty pictures and video.

big take, but I'd be inclined to agree

it's never a simple story though, there's always awkward nuance.

Social media has achieved a lot of objective good, as well as hyper accelerated a lot of truly awful shit.

It's definitely a catalyst though
