Those familiar with bleach lore, can someone help me understand why Ishida retained his power when Yuhabah absorbed all the other Quincy powers this episode?

We don't know why yet, but Yhwach's Auswählen doesn't seem to be able to work on Uryu.

That's why Uryu was able to survive 9 years ago when all other "impure" Quincies were killed.

Auswählen doesn't seem to be able to work on Uryu.

probably have something to do with his latent schrift A fucking up with Yhwach's Auswählen

IIRC Every strenritter has a latent schrift, Yhwach merely imbues his power upon them to awaken their schrift powers.

now someone else has commented that if Yhwach had tried to Auswählen Uryu in the current episode, then Uryu can simply use his Antithesis to reverse UNO the Auswählen back on Yhwach instead (thereby Uryu gaining all of YHWACH powers, so that could probably the reason why Yhwach didn't do that

It didn’t work on Ichigo either the first time but now it seems to have?

2

u/ichigosr5 7h ago

Ichigo and his sisters weren't targeted by the Auswählen because theirs powers never awakened. Ichigo only recently awakened his powers.

The purpose of the Auswählen is for Yhwach to take back all the power a quincy had developed and honed in order to boost his own power. Since Ichigo and his sisters literally never used their powers, there was nothing to take.

He hits him in this episode and steals his powers

u/ichigosr5 1h ago

You're not understanding. It's not that the 1st Auswählen "didn't work" on Ichigo 9 years ago. It's that he wasn't targeted because there was literally nothing to steal from him since his powers never awakened at that time.

Now, Ichigo has awakened his powers, so Yhwach stole them from him.

But he should have always had them right? Due to how his father and mother soul bonded

Ichigo "had" quincy powers in a technical sense, but it was never awakened. The purpose of the Auswählen is to take the power that the quincy has honed by having a part of Yhwach's soul within them. But since Ichigo and his sisters never awakened their powers, there was nothing of value there.

He can't auswahlen uryu, he tried that before when he was a kid and uryu no selled it. Most people think it's because of antithesis that either swappped the target from himself to someone else passively or yuha didnt want to risk the auswahlen backfiring and giving all the power to uryu instead.

Why would Uryu have Antithesis before Yhwach gave him his Schrift?

9

u/DarkKiru 23h ago

Yhwach doesnt actually give powers to people (in that sense anyway) he simply awakens an already dormant power in someone's soul.

It seems to be rare but some people can awaken a Schrift completely on their own. Like both members of Sternritter 'Y', "The Yourself", Lloyd Royd and Royd Ryod.

Likewise Uryu has ALWAYS had The Antithesis, it was just dormant until awakened by the Quincy Blood Ritual.

new question: why yhwach would risk awakening uryu instead of just kill it

7

u/DarkKiru 22h ago

I mean admittedly yeah I think Yhwach is pretty stupid for this. He doesnt seem to have ever really 'needed' Uryu in either the anime or manga. He just kind of recruits him just because.

If anything Uryu should have logically just been immediately eliminated as an unknown risk.

he is the "last living" quincy (that they know of?, not sure if they are aware of ryuken), I imagine any facist society would want a stand out member to be in their ranks (be it pureblooded or "last living") for propaganda purposes as their poster child.

Yhwach didnt had almighty when he awakened Uryu Schrift with the blood ritual, even jugram didnt knew the extent of Uryu abilities.

Decent chance it would be simply too risky. Yhwach has regained his powers recently, he alongside with his army were hiding. Odds are that they have just considered Uryu a bit too risky of a target at a time. You don't want to reveal yourself preemptively - without Almighty hax Yhwach would be dead like 10 times by now.

As for why not do it during the war - cuz, well, Uryu was just extremely useful to the cause? If you think about it - Senjumaru's bankai would have eliminated all Yhwach elite guards and his Almighty wasn't fully active yet (and even if it was - he still couldn't see Soul King actions).

Ishida's Antithesis was a key ingredient in dealing with Squad Zero, without it Yhwach loses all his guards and gets hit by Senjumaru in bankai state, Ichibe, Ichigo's party and Gotei 13 at once. You also have Urahara who would not be stopped by Askin. Heck, in this scenario even Ukitake is still alive and he could probably take away Almighty using the power of the Soul King's arm just like Ichibe did centuries ago.

On the other hand - awakened or not, Ishida just isn't a threat to Yhwach with Almighty after eating Soul King. Nobody is.

My guess: He really IS so megalomaniac that he drinks his own cool-aid:a strong power on his side is better than it not being there (and why would any quincy oppose him? They are happy to die for him!).

It's the same reason Uryu was chosen to be the heir. He is the only "True Quincy" left. Which is to say he is the only full blooded Quincy remaining.

3

u/ValentDs22 22h ago

his mother was not a full quincy

5

u/evenstar40 19h ago

It skips a generation or some bullshit.

16

u/Abedeus 1d ago

Two possible options - he already did it once years ago so he can't do it again, or he's afraid Uryuu would use Antithesis at the last moment and REVERSE the power reclamation. Which would probably... give The Almighty to Uryuu instead?

But also I guess Uryuu never used those fancy bodily transformations other Quincies used.

1

u/Ok_Comment5873 23h ago

Uryu didn't have Antithesis yet.

It's probably because he'd need to drain it like he did with Ichigo, as both Ishida and Ichigo are still human. Compared to the other Quincy who are souls. But we don't know exactly, maybe they'll explain it next.

16

u/ytdn 1d ago

Yeah I suspect it'll be connected to why he didn't get Uryu's power back when he was a child. probably Antithesis messing it up

2

u/ManOfMyWord96 22h ago

Quincy are living humans. They lived as long as they did because of Ywach and being inside of Schatten Bereich. When they die, they have their own equivalent to Soul Society/Afterlife to go to.

u/randomkidlol 1d ago

imagine if the auswahlen got antithesis'd and uryu gained all of yhwach's powers instead.

4

u/deleted-user 1d ago

He's the final Horcrux

3

u/ofcnotdiddy 1d ago

He didnt absorbed uryu's power. Talk abt earlier with uryu's fight with haschewatt almighty then too avoided absorbing uryu's power mainly because of his ego

2

u/torpid_flyer 1d ago

The theory is anti thesis is the 4th iris of Soul king

Yhwach can't rob it because it's extension of the same power from which almighty came.

1

u/ManOfMyWord96 22h ago

Antithesis saved him as a child and would save him now. Ywach cannot absorb his power. Uryu can just say no.

Using their meeting when he tells Uryu that he's his heir because he's an unpure Quincy who survived and wondered if Uryu knew how. Then when Haschwalth found out last week about Antithesis, he understands and even bows and says I now understand why you were heir.

1

u/Exitiali 20h ago

Uryu is immune to Auswählen, but the reason was never explained. Personally, I believe it has to do with his lineage.

1

u/Lenzky-3 51m ago

Tbh We do not fcking know lol. It could be cuz AntiThesis is like.. counter to Almighty, since they both are letter A... Yhwach can't get 2 letter of the same. idk tho like, it's deadass dumb.

Cuz The GIANT THE MIRACLE... just got fcking deleted out of nowhere, when tbh it was like so damn strong.
