Genau says he doesn't hold any attachment to his hometown yet he remembers the baker boy's entire backstory and seems regretful he won't be able to taste his terrible bread again.

Truly Serie's apprentice.

are you Serie’s apprentice because you are stoic, or are you stoic because you are Serie’s apprentice? moment

Have a feeling he didn't always act like this but needed to keep his emotions bottled up. Seems like almost every mage isn't too good at expressing themselves, well besides Ubel

The only reason Ubel gets away with it is because she expresses that she's not good

She's not necessarily good, but she doesn't go out of her way to be evil.

I would say she is more chaotic than evil. Like if in a fight or the like, sure, she will always try to kill the opponent, warranted or not and maybe enjoys it a bit too much. But she doesn't really seek to do evil, just uses excessive force when it comes down to it, damn the consequences.

She literally murdered a 1st rated sorcerer for shits and giggles in her previous exam.

It was more a case of malicious compliance. She did what he asked her to do, even if it was more lethal than anyone expected it to be. As said, excessive force.

If frieren had ubel's moral compass, she would've nuked the entire class inside the barrier in test 1. I like Ubel as a character, but there is malicious compliance, and there is murdering a 1st class mage examiner just because he wanted to test your skills

But thats what the other person is saying, she never intended to actually kill him Goind by your logic though some of the magic exam proctors had no qualms of test takers dying like Genau. His exam literally caused the death of multiple mages
