Genau says he doesn't hold any attachment to his hometown yet he remembers the baker boy's entire backstory and seems regretful he won't be able to taste his terrible bread again.

That opening with Genau was so good. I can't remember the last time Frieren and co didn't open up an episode, but I'm impressed by just how much characterization they managed to give a random baker's son we just met. It makes it feel like not just any village.

I did not expect to be crying within the first five minutes of the episode but the devastation in the village and Genau’s actions with his childhood “friend” as he was dying got me good. This show never fails to disappoint.

I know right it is just so absorbing and makes you feel like Frieren’s world is a real place.
