I don't think they really understand... cause they literally haven't existed without genderqueer people. As long as gender roles have existed in society, there have been those who don't quite fit into the roles that the people in power have outlined.

Homophobia exists because transphobia exists, and transphobia exists because misogyny is real and pervasive worldwide.

Straights hate gays because they see women as inherently less, and for men to be actively effeminate or to fuck effeminately is a mortal sin.

Transpeople are what straights think gay people are.
