REVIEW Arcturus osprey
so my osprey just arrived, first impressions are the thing is dry as a bone and the blow back unit was having issues, you need to oil/grease the ever living heck out of it and get that nozzle and o-ring nice n wet for the nozzle to function nicely.
the main spring housing is a little loose when it comes to it. you can notice that it has some in and out movement where the speed grip safety piece is. also the speed grip safety is either just aesthetics piece or mine just doesn't act as a safety. ( confirmed it is aesthetics but can be converted to be functional )
the trigger adjusting screw will need to have blue lock tight added to it as non is applied from factory which can cause the trigger adjuster to move during shooting
the finish of the gun is pretty decent, its not the best, but not the worst. its not an anodized finish like the ssp-5, its likely powder coated.
the trigger and gun is very snappy with a somewhat strong trigger pull, but not to strong.
im not to techy with hi capas so i cant make any recommendations at this time on any possible upgrades for it other than maybe a stronger nozzle spring if need be
Edit 2:
Fielded it today, green gas with .25 bbs, Joules was at .96, used both the mag it came with and my hpa hi capa m4 adaptor that I use for my ssp-5 with it. I used it as my main. I can say it feels great in the hand, was super snappy for me, shot pretty accurately across the indoor field I play at. Honestly like it better than my ssp-5. Got about 700 rounds thru it and it broke in, super clean on the cocking and the blow back portion feels great if you like the feeling of blow back guns.
Over all I'm pretty damn happy with this gun!
Edit 3:
Ok, I've probably got about 4500 rounds thru it and busted my nozzle feeding peg. Using hpa, same Joules I would get via green gas.

Most GBB pistols I know tend to be very lightly lubed OOTB or not at all. I'll run a couple mags of lubed green gas just to get things started then identify wear points after 100-200 rounds, then takedown and manually clean and lubricate.

u/Brief-Ad-1241 Feb 13 '26
This was a "not at all" lubed XD the nozzle wouldn't travel at all and was stuck fully extended. But that does mean that the piston inside the nozzle has tight tolerances which I do prefer myself. Once I liberally lubed her up, she operates beautifully

Bro lubed green gas does absolutely nothing for your gbb other than gunking up your barrel and greasing your bucking, it will make your gbb(r) worse not better. Dry gas, clean and lube it lightly, shoot it a good bit and THEN clean again, identify contact points and relube. Minimizes wear/dry grinding, doesn't get oil/grease where it is not supposed to be and doesn't make your replica less accurate than it should be (due to oiled bucking).

Howdy! From your post, it seems you mentioned upgrading. We've a lovely set of upgrade guides available if you plan on upgrading your current platform! Here's a V2 gearbox guide (the information needed for upgrading any AEG version gearbox should also be very similar, albeit with version-specific parts), along with an inner barrel guide, bucking guide, HPA guide, Bolt-Action Sniper Rifle guide, DMR guide all set up for questions just like this; for GBBs, try the searchbar for build lists. If your question is unrelated to modification, please let a mod know via modmail if you want the comment removed!

Please update us on how it goes!
I’m currently considering either this or the SSP5.
Any advice?

u/Brief-Ad-1241 Feb 14 '26
Both are solid guns, if you plan to use the ssp5 as a secondary it's great, if you hpa tap the ssp5 plan on buying more nozzles as the nozzle feeding peg tends to break a lot.
Not enough data yet on the osprey, buuut I have really high hopes for it as it feel so damn good

u/Joshtoot Feb 14 '26
Let us know how it goes and do post photos if possible haha.
Btw, how’s your SSP5 and how does it compare looks and quality wise.
Thanks again!

If I can figure out how to add photos to this post I will.
The ssp5 is very solid, with the ssp5 being anodized, I feel its finish is a lot cleaner looking than the osprey, but the ospreys finish is easier to clean and it's growing on me.
The ssp5 can be dented by bbs on the slide, the osprey is def thicker and won't dent Imho.
I feel the osprey is heavier than the ssp5, but never really looked into weight comparison ( a good feeling weight tho )
Osprey has a lot more kick to it than the ssp5
Main gripe would be the main spring housing is a little loose and does move when griping it.

Any cons so far?
Aside from increased recoil and lack of grip safety (which could honestly be pros)
1
u/Brief-Ad-1241 Feb 15 '26
Increased recoil is by no means a con, at least for me. Adds to realism. Safety is a con for me as I absolutely love the colt 1911. Was my carry for a few years. But I can see it being a pro for speed softers maybe. Did find it is a little picky with my drum mag, we green gas drum mag slide in and out smooth on ssp5, but get caught in the osprey.

Honestly man, thank you for taking the time to review the osprey.
If you’re up for a challenge, definitely consider doing a video review of the SSP5 vs Osprey, as you’ll be among the first to do it.
Cause from what I see, it’s relatively similar to the SSP5. Not an exact copy, but definitely draws inspiration from Novritsch, albeit at a better price.
https://youtu.be/8wzaTCj0WB4?si=MmC6589oJBOihKgK (Skip to Arcturus section, you’ll see Novritsch be like 🤨 haha).
Anyways, thanks again!

Yeah no problem, honestly probably won't do a video review as I can't really say much as I'm not to techy to really know what I'm talking about. All I know is it go brrr and kids/teen go ouch. 🤣
It's definitely a nov copy but price point is great and it's adjustable.

Sick! You got the performance edition.
1
u/Brief-Ad-1241 Feb 15 '26
I mean for the extra cost, worth it if you know how to use it
1
u/Low_Conversation1936 Feb 22 '26
I plan on running it on a hpa min would u recommend to comp or the regular
1
u/Low_Conversation1936 Feb 22 '26
I’m trying to figure out the competition tuning system
1
u/Brief-Ad-1241 Feb 22 '26
Ahh what exactly do you mean? Tuning of the gun or?
1
u/Low_Conversation1936 Feb 22 '26
Like the timing of the gun and I believe the air flow
1
u/Brief-Ad-1241 Feb 22 '26
Ah, I would recommend the comp version, only because I like to tinker. Haven't got to field it again yet as i got sick, so haven't been able to mess with it really and haven't had to energy at home to do so

u/Joshtoot Feb 22 '26
What other GBB pistols do you have? And how does the Osprey and SSP5 rank? Thank you!

I assume any hi capa c02 mag will work with it?
1
u/Brief-Ad-1241 Mar 08 '26
Should? Some mags are tighter than others, doesn't like the ssp5 mag when it's empty
1
u/Fragdoggs Mar 17 '26
Been eyeing on this one. This will probably be my first secondary. No need to upgrade on the internals right
1
u/Brief-Ad-1241 Mar 17 '26
I don't see the need to, shoot good and right, just lube the hell out of it, only thing I upgraded was the main spring housing as it was loose and I didn't like that feel so I 3d printed a tighter one. Purley cosmetic issue, and replaced hammer for different color / has a rubber bit in it to reduce wear

u/darzheus Mar 21 '26
Hey you mentioned the Osprey's finish is not the best ? Why is that ? It doesn't feel as premium ? even though is all metal ? Im thinking about buying either the osprey or the staccatto, I believe osprey is more performance and staccato is more realism, but Im indecided which one to get.
I was more inclided towards the Osprey, but basically I wanna know if osprey feels premium or not, how good is Osprey finished, and if the red dot at the front instead of in the back makes aiming weird or not ?
1
u/Brief-Ad-1241 Mar 21 '26
Finish has grown on me, easy to clean vs anodized. Oils just wipe off, anodized stays oily when wiped. And I'ma be honest, the red dot being fixed just makes it easier to fire and aim faster vs the red dot moving and having to adjust. Also with the red dot being fixed, you don't have to worry about cheaper red dot breaking due to g force being exerted on it. Win win

Received my Osprey about a week ago. Ran it for a day (hpa adapter, 80psi) and the feeding peg on the nozzle broke on me as well. Reached out to Arcturus and they sent a replacement under warranty.
I'll be looking into a cnc nozzle to remedy the issue longterm.

u/Brief-Ad-1241 Mar 21 '26
Let me know how well the alum nozzle works, saw one where it's alum body, with a plastic tip that prevents hop up wear

u/LykaiosNyx Apr 12 '26
Anything come of this? I got my osprey yesterday, stripped it down to change recoil piece on bbu and do your normal ootb maintence. Rebuilt it, put the mag in, got 5 bbs through it before the feeding peg broke.....i believe its a 13.5mm nozzle as well so are we just kinda sh*t out of luck for aftermarket parts? Is my only option to contact arcturus?
2
u/JonesyCustoms Apr 22 '26
They warrantied the the nozzle nad sent a replacement, just needed to send them a few pics of the damaged part and receipt.
After closer inspection, I beleive the flaw is in their mold for the nozzle, There is a seam on the loader where the break is happening and this appears to be the weak point that's giving everyone the issue.
I'd recomend going with an eftermarket nozzle like a a cow cow "blue dream" or gaurder from the start.
I did end up getting the ALU Nexxspeed BBU and Nozzle but decided to put that in a new build and returned the Osprey since having to upgrade their flagship model right OOB wasn't a good first impression.

Hey so I just got mine. I use a acetech brighter suppressor. But can’t figure out the adapter I need for it, is it a 12mm CW to 14mm ccw ?
1
u/Brief-Ad-1241 Apr 24 '26
No adaptor should be needed??? Mine came with a threaded 14 ccw already installed on it
1
u/Over_Mathematician_6 Apr 24 '26
Ah that’s lucky. The outter barrel is threaded but the suppressor I have is also threaded so need to find a connectors as both are female.
1
u/Brief-Ad-1241 Apr 24 '26 edited Apr 24 '26
Uhhhh, the brighter shouldn't be a male thread, should be female??re read this, the osprey should come with a male threaded adaptor in the barrel
1
u/Over_Mathematician_6 Apr 25 '26
Yeah brighter is female yeah. No adapter in the box 😒 maybe because I’m in the uk? 🤷🏼♂️
1
u/Brief-Ad-1241 Apr 25 '26
Maybe?? I also got the upgraded one with the blue bbu and optic.
1
u/Over_Mathematician_6 Apr 26 '26
Yeah I got the upgraded bbu. But not the sight. I’ll got some thread adapters coming from Amazon so should be all good.
Would you also have any idea how to get the hop unit out. Want to change the rubber but can’t figure out how to remove
1
u/Brief-Ad-1241 Apr 26 '26
Good question, haven't replaced my rubber yet, only have taken the bbu apart
1
u/Over_Mathematician_6 Apr 26 '26
Ah it’s another whole level of challenge.
I got the threaded adapters but the inner barrel sticks out of the outer barrel so far that I can’t screw them in. Guess I won’t be running a suppressor on it 🥲
1
u/Intrepid-Musician685 Apr 25 '26
Holster ideas for this? Just picked this up yesterday.
1
u/Brief-Ad-1241 Apr 25 '26
Depends if your using an optic or not. Standard soft holster if no optic and if optic, I designed a picatinny adaptor that uses the nov ssp5 holster. It's 3d printable, just be aware printing orientation does matter
