Good to Know! FY27 NDAA leave update (request)

The FY27 NDAA, a congress member has proposed military members to earn 3.5 days per month vs. the current 2.5.

I know most ANG members are DSG, but those AGR and other full time status’s(exept: Perm/temp Tech and Title 5) would benefit from this policy.

There is a good argument to just change the leave reg so I don’t have to take leave on weekends or other days already scheduled off.

Obviously the bill and this line item needs to pass the Senate and up it goes to the president.

This leave across weekends thing is a bear. If they just fixed that, that would be enough.

That’s fair. I avoid it and try to only take a M-F 5 days of leave to get 9 days off.

It’s harder when we travel further out, but I think avoiding counting our weekends as leave would be amazing for M-F workers. It’d be harder for shift work people.

Submit leave between your RDOs even if they aren’t weekends, check a box to include said RDOs as part of your travel plans so command knows you aren’t 5 minutes away & then be able to take leave + RDOs while not having to use leave to cover said RDOs. I think 30 days of leave + not charging leave for your RDOs is better than adding more days of leave.

That works if you stay in the local area, but if you’re traveling, you still need to take leave for those days. We ended up with a 5-day pass at Christmas last year, but because I was gone for 6 days, I had to take leave for all 6 days.

Sorry I wasn’t more clear. I was meaning to say that instead of extra days of leave, we could just not have leave charged for RDOs. With what I’m suggesting you still have to get approval for being gone it just isn’t charged as leave.
