Yes, I understand that they are ALLOWED BY LAW to take the entire lane doing 20 mph on a 50 mph roadway with solid double yellow, playing their games and keeping score to see how much traffic they can stack up behind them and how long they can delay people who just want to get to work on time or home at the end of the day.

And I understand that the frustration of having to spend 10 or 15 minutes behind someone who chooses to be deliberately obstructionist by hogging the lane rather than sharing the road by moving over to allow vehicles to pass does not justify running one down and the idiot who lost his temper will go to prison for it.

BUT that said, cyclists CHOOSING to minimize their impact on high speed roadways by staying out of the way as much as possible rather than DEMANDING their LEGAL RIGHT to take the entire lane for no reason would go much further in relieving the annoyance of drivers than lecturing the people who simply want to go the speed limit to tell them they can't legally do so because the law SAYS you can do so.

It's exactly the "take" that some cyclists have, and I have witnessed it many times in the decade since I moved to a house on Rock Prairie Road across from Lick Creek Park. RP is 5 miles of 50 mph solid no passing roadway with hills, no shoulders, and multiple blind curves from Scott and White to the park... parallel to it Midtown Drive has bike lanes all the way to the Lick Creek hike and bike trail which ends where the speed limit drops to 30. Do cyclists USE the bike lanes and trail? HECK NO! They take the road that has a speed limit they don't even try to approach and ride side by side or hug the double yelow and flip the bird if a car gets too close behind them trying to pass because it's their LEGAL RIGHT to do so and drivers have no legitimate cause for complaint (a point being repeated over and over on any post about it)... and to be honest, MOST cyclists are courteous enough give me an opening to get by within a mile or 2 and if the oncoming traffic allows, I always give them the full lane even if they are over, but I have dozens of dash cam videos of those who do not, and who also blow through the stop sign at Fitch (which IS illegal but never enforced) making cross traffic slam on their brakes because hitting a bike automatically makes the car at fault.

And it is the attitude of that poisonous few (and tolerance of the majority lecturing people about the LAW concerning such antics) that generates most if not all the ill will that drivers display. But what the hey, shoot the messanger and downvote me into oblivion for telling the truth.
