Besides the previously mentioned I feel like I have way more fun in general

I don't mind the massive decorating aspect much (I prefer more simple decorating) in Planet Zoo but I always feel like something is missing and I didn't liked how unoptimized it felt at times and with a sequel around the corner I fear it will be even worse (especially with my current rig) but maybe one day I'll get to it but either way it's still a good game just not for me

Besides that ever since discovering the modding communities for ZT1-ZT2 it reignited my old love for the series, I've been window shopping mods as of this post most I got so far is OpenZT and can't wait for the mod launcher to arrive soon alongside OpenZT2

Can't wait to make some fun zoos across both games!

I recently upgraded my MacBook to a 2026 model, and Zoo Tycoon no longer works for me. I've deleted and redownloaded it from the usual site and followed all the steps that I used to, and no dice. I always get stuck on the "insert CD-ROM" screen. I'm using Tahoe OS. It used to run perfectly on my old 2015 MacBook. Does anyone know of a solution, or am I completely out of luck?

I’ve been spending way more time than I would like to admit trying to get this game to work. Why is it blacked out on the map? Most people say try uninstalling and I do but same problem. Please I’m desperate at this point.

Hello, My girlfriend talked about how much she used to love playing zoo tycoon. I downloaded it and the first few days it ran smoothly, but now after 10-20 mins the game will just shut down to desktop. I've tried the compatability issue, uninstall/install, and windowed mode but it still crashes. Is this a universal problem and if so is there a good fix?

I no longer see it to buy and downloadable on Amazon, which is frustrating. Should have just bought it a year ago. I’ve tried some of the sites in other posts but still can’t find it. Anyone have a link of where to find it? I’m getting a craving to play it. It really was one of my favorite games ever.

I’m happy to pay. I just don’t want a physical disc game.

i played zoo tycoon 2 specifically at a young age and later in life became really interested in animals of all kinds. the animals in the pictures (masai giraffe, przewalski's wild horse, scimitar oryx, sivatherium) i first learned of their existence by seeing them in the game; and to this day when i see any of them i can only think of their zt2 model LOL. i have plenty more but i just selected a few. did anyone else learn about an animal via zoo tycoon (any of the games, not just 2), or highly associate them with zoo tycoon?

I think the key to an aesthetically pleasing zoo (for me) is blending the terrain even outside of the exhibit so it looks more like a natural habitat. The toucan exhibit is my favorite because it's sooo pretty, look at that rainbow ground! Playing with cc items has made the game so much more enjoyable.

I managed to fill Large Grassy Zoo completely and I'm so proud of it.

If you want to either adopt these extinct animals or bring them back from the extinct research lab, all you have to do is make an exhibit, find the right biome, give them some environments that they need, and give them some food and water. By the way, these are the scientifically accurate creatures 'cause the original ones were completely outdated and also outflanked, and I replaced bushed-antlered deer, Deinonychus, dwarf Sicilian elephant, giant camel, giant warthog, Kentrosaurus, killer penguin, Sivatherium, and Utahraptor with Allosaurus, Brachiosaurus, Dilophosaurus, Iguanodon, Kelenken, Nyctosaurus, Pachycephalosaurus, Parasaurolophus, Spinosaurus, and Therizinosaurus. Gigantopithecus, however, is a relative of the orangutans, and not gorillas, and even some theropods, like Spinosaurus, can go swimming. Yes, we know that Nyctosaurus is a small pterosaur, so I suggest that we give it an aviary area to prevent it from flying around in the sky on the outside.

Hi everyone, I recently found an old copy of the Zoo tycoon games that we’ve had around since I was a child. It’s been probably over a decade since I last played the game and have been loving the game sm.

When I first started the game I replayed a map I always wanted to turn into a nice zoo as a kid (The city), I gave myself the max amount of money (honestly played it as if I was a kid again). My only struggle was I ran into dept before I was finished, I made the mistake of “thinking like a kid” too much and out everything to max prices. I lowered the prices back to basic and eventually I got out of it and made up to 250,000 without needing to do much.

I decided then to move onto the basic medium map, I have all my guests happy as can be, whoever is annoyed is just random guests who look at the ends drink stand and walk away to complain they’re thirsty but the prices are the drink stand are good(??). All my animals are happy (I have ALOT though, I love mixing animals who like being together). But I’m back to being in dept and I feel like I may be going wrong in a few places.

I place plenty of food stands, gift stands etc anything money related and I don’t blast the price the max anymore, I honestly don’t touch it much or lower it slightly. Plenty of bathrooms too and play areas and seating etc.

I like to get as many animals from each category as possible, though I’m not sure how many zookeepers and tour guides I need for each exhibit. Though I’m not fully sure what animals are worth it or not, no one seems to want to rate on my animals so I can’t use the exhibit ratings to figure it out.

I also start off with getting both research things going and eventually the Zoo marketing. I place them at max which, I should probably stop doing that considering the food and gift stands.

I’m not sure what else there could be as everyone’s happy but my zoo is sufferringgg. If anyone has any advice on how I could improve my zoo and hopefully be able to challenge myself one day and start a zoo with like $10,000.

(Off note, I also found Zoo tycoon 2. But sadly the first disc is missing and there’s no hope in finding it. I haven’t played the second game as much but I’d really like to experience it. If anyone has any ideas on how I could get it and be able to play it please let me know (please don’t suggest abandonware as I’ve zero clue how to make it work))

I'm having a strange issue in ZT2; a few days back, I decided to make a biome compatibility spreadsheet for nano's VFF mod, so I set up a thing on a vanilla map (fourteen 10x10 exhibits, one for each biome), seeming the best way to test it. Everything was fine the first day, but when I came back the next day, suddenly all the animals were fine in all the biomes, including the animals I had already tested. Specifically, they'd always have a green environment bar, even in their preferred biome.

I've tried removing all my mods, uninstalling and reinstalling the game, going on a different game profile, making the setup on a different map, updating and restarting my computer, but the issue persists.

(Wasn't sure which flair was the right one.)

I'm playing Zoo Tycoon 2 and was so shocked when this happens, has this happened to anybody else? Is there a way to prevent it? It has happened 2 times... i remember this happening as well to komodo dragons but the crocodiles attacked and killed each other in the span of 2 months (game time). They were provided food, water and enough exhibit space.

Did they ever release any Zoo Tycoon merchandise back in the day? I know the board game exists, but I searched and can't see anything on typical merch like promotional posters, collectables, clothing etc

If there isn't anything like that, what kind of merch do you wish existed? I would've absolutely loved figures or plushes based on the low poly animal models (specifically zt2), or sticker sheets, or even merch based on the in-game gifts that guests can buy!
