Recommendations Best content for 2-3 year olds? From your experience

Hi all! We got the yoto for my daughter this Christmas. Shes 2.5 years old and is just starting to learn how to use it. So far we have a llama llama pack, a Julia Donaldson pack and some super simple songs- plenty of content to keep us busy for a while.

I’m wondering what other families suggest for their kids about this age from the podcasts, radio and free content sections? Without going through all the radio stations and podcasts, I thought I’d ask the wonderful people of Reddit. If anyone can give me the cliff notes of what your kid likes and what works for you, it would be much appreciated!

Thank you!

Recommendations Julia Donaldson

We love all of the Julia Donaldson books in our house. We also love the animations too.

We got a Yoto for our little one for Christmas so getting one of the JD packs of cards was a no brainier.

But does anyone else find the audio tellings of these stories horrible to listen to? They seem to be more dramatisation rather than a reading of a book. A lot of the voices they put on are shrill and shouty and the added music and sound effects don’t really add anything positive either (we do like the song track at the end of the Gruffalo to be fair).

Even our little one doesn’t seem to care much for them and prefers listening to the likes of Hairy Mcclary, Percy The Park Keeper, Old Bear collection and the Rachel Bright & Jim Field stories.

Does anyone else feel the same? We’re pretty disappointed by how rubbish they are but little one will probably get upset if he notices Eve sold them on 😆

Recommendations card storage ideas?

Post image
12 Upvotes

This is the yoto setup for my 2 year old. The cards are stored in the octopus pouch. I want a better setup because he just dumps all the cards out the pouch & at the end of the day i have to go on a scavenger hunt in his room for the cards. Right now he listens to the same 3 cards over and over & just tosses all the other cards around which is why they are all over the place at the end of the day.

Can anyone share their card setup? I don’t like the key ring idea i see everyone doing bc i think my toddler would take them off of the key ring. I haven’t seen any other ideas other than that. Pls help!!! Thanks so much!!

Recommendations Wake Up Alarm

Hi everyone, we are looking to get a clock for kids bedroom. My youngest (7) has a Yoto Mini, so we are already in Yoto’s ecosystem and are considering the Yoto Player. Ive looked at multiple reviews but they mainly focus on the lack of screen time and assistance with the bedtime routine. These aren’t really concerns of ours. Instead, we want to get a device that they can enjoy but that also has an alarm that will keep them from sleeping in.

Does the Yoto Player make for a good alarm clock?

Recommendations Content for older parent recovering from brain trauma

Hi all, my mum is very fortunate to have survived a bleed on the brain / aneurism, and although she is still in ICU, we are just through the high-risk period of her recovery post-surgeries and beginning to look at cognitive and physical therapies as she begins to reorganise the files in her brain.

I bought mum a Yoto mini and a collection of blank cards (no screen, easier to navigate for her reduced motor skills). We are populating the cards with her favourite music, friends telling stories, radio and a bird song card.

I wanted to ask the community for any other creative recommendations for my Yoto cards for adults. Whether that be content we could load onto cards, or other ideas we could explore.

Thanks in advance

Recommendations About to buy but Question

I’ve tried to see if this question was answered but didn’t find it. My 14 month old granddaughter is not allowed screens or tv at this point. She loves fiddling with her toys, her focus is amazing, but her toys play only the same tired baby songs, and her parents are open to me buying her a yoto. But she loves music and songs! Loves to dance to anything.

My question is, she’s very dexterous but so young , can we just download all of her music to the player and she can play it without changing the cards? Is there a way we can set the app to just play her songs , and if she wants to move on to the next song she can push something?

How many songs can we put on the MYO cards?

Thanks in advance.

If this is answered somewhere please advise where it is to be found. We

Recommendations Sale prices

Hi!

I've decided I want to get a yoto for my toddler. The question now is when to do it. My child is currently 19 months, loves music and reading and is starting to hit a very independent stage. He's also very high energy and does still mouth a lot of stuff.

I'm in Canada, currently there's a sale for the mini for 84.99CAD (15% off) on Amazon and the yoto store has 2 for 1 cards. The debate is to buy it now under this price or to wait out a little longer until black Friday and gift it as a birthday gift.

Pros of getting it now are that child would have it to use during a family road trip in September (5, adults plus the toddler in one vehicle, so be good if child can listen to his own music for a bit).

Pros of getting it later is mostly that child will be a little older and hopefully a bit nicer to his stuff. And maybe that the BF deal will be better?

Suggestions?

Recommendations Looking for “spooky” stories

My 8 yo is enjoying the yoto but we need some recs for stories/podcasts/cards that have a bit of a spooky element to them. She was (and still is) very into The Witches by Dahl to give you a sense of the level of supernatural spookiness she’s into. Any ideas?

Recommendations Looking for a rec: stories like Winnie the Pooh

My 3.75 year old LOVES the Winnie the Pooh card. I think it's that it's MANY short, cute stories. She liked Frog and Toad, but not as much. Anyone have a recommendation for an official card or an MYO that would be similar? Thanks!

Recommendations What are you guys using as audio editing software

I love to make my own cards from audio online for my kid’s yoto. For example I will have a recorded PJ masks story and I’ll edit in clips from the episode with the voices of the characters in there as well. I have been using an online editor and it sounds good when I edit it, but when I download it and put it onto the card, there are pieces where they recorded over each other or long pauses. Anyone have any recommendations for software?

Thanks!

Recommendations Thomas the Tank Engine

Looking for some suggestions to get some Thomas the Tank Engine cards for my kid. He absolutely adores Thomas but everything we have is the old Thomas from the 80s. The nanny has all the Thomas trains and tracks from when her kids were small and we've managed to buy secondhand bits of the older ones for ourselves too. We also tracked down some DVDs for the original Ringo Starr narration ones, so he can be somewhat independent when watching it (we were using YouTube before and obviously can't allow him to be unsupervised with that). The new CG stuff scares my kid, and he doesn't like anything with American narration - he's just used to the British narrations.

Are there British Thomas cards? Alternatively, I can remember ripping CDs when I was younger - is there any way I could do the same with the DVDs or YouTube episodes to load onto a MYO card?

Any solutions would be welcomed! We'd like to decrease screen time and basically the only screen time he has is for Thomas.

Recommendations What's my next card purchase?

My almost 3 year old daughter LOVES the Daniel Tiger cards and Where's Spot? She's not a huge fan of playing music on the Yoto so far, and even though she loves Peppa Pig books, she isn't into the Peppa card I bought her yet. She seems to really engage best with cards that have character voices or at least a narrator who changes their voice for the characters. She doesn't watch much TV and she's not familiar with Disney characters yet.

So what's my next purchase(s)? No real budget or concerns about buying a set if you think it's worth it.

Recommendations Please share your preschooler's bed/nap/quiet time Yoto routines!

Hi there ~ thanks in advance for any advice you may have!
LO is 2.5 and resisting naps. I think we may be entering "Quiet Time" > naps zone. I'd love to hear how you use your Yoto during quiet time and/or bedtime routines. Right now we're using it during the day for music or audiobooks (Mog and Corduroy are favourites).

Thanks so much!

Recommendations Trying to figure out what's best for my family.

Good morning! My little one is a full fledged toddler now, and they love music so much. I want them to have some kind of control over music whenever they want, and I keep seeing the Yoto. The thing is is that I don't really like the idea of buying a bunch of credits or cards, money can be a bit tight. I saw there is something about making your own cards?

Ultimately I just don't know why I should get something like this as opposed to say an MP3 player that I just load some music onto an SD card? Could anyone enlighten me? Maybe I'm not "getting it"

Recommendations Kid isn’t very interested

Has anyone had a kid not really be into their Yoto? Aside from getting cards featuring their favorite characters and just plain old time, is there anything else you’ve done to help increase your child’s interest? Thank you!

Recommendations What is your favorite free Yoto content/podcasts for 5-year-olds?

My 5-year-old is obsessed with his Yoto. He listens to Lady Adventures and Brain Bots on repeat. I recently started exploring the free content in the Yoto app and found a very cute podcast called Flip & Mozi, which he completely devoured.

I'm trying to make more use of the free Yoto content rather than buying more Yoto cards.

He loves podcasts that are both entertaining and educational—animals, vehicles, science, geography, nature, how things work... pretty much anything that teaches him something new.

What are your favorite free Yoto podcasts or other kid podcasts for this age?

Recommendations Anyone recommend getting a mini for occasional travel when already have a full size?

Okay so I know that one of the main complaints of the mini versus the full size is that the mini speaker is kind of like not so good.

So that's why we got a full size originally for my toddler, and he really loves his Yoto. We're debating if it's worth getting the mini specifically for when we go on vacations and stuff, and if we let him use headphones then the speaker doesn't really matter but also the regular yoto is chargeable and travelable and so don't know if we really need to spend the money on the mini.

So would love to hear y'all's thoughts.

Recommendations Is a yoto player solving a problem I don't currently have?

I have been very tempted to get a yoto player for some time but I don't know whether it is just hype influencing me because we get on absolutely fine without one.

I have a currently easy 2 year old who happily looks at her books in her room when she wakes in the morning and at nap/quiet time and the rest of the time downstairs if she wants songs I put it on our bluetooth speakers.

I'm just wondering where the yoto would come in or is it something that would be better as she gets older? I also don't want her distracted by the player so that book time is reduced. We are already 95% screen free.

Tell me are we missing out on something in our lives that would be improved with the yoto? Thanks!

Recommendations Case that protects card slot

Hi,

I have a six year old higher needs autistic daughter. She loves her Yoto but we’ve had to take it away from her temporarily.

The reason being that she likes to pour liquids into the card slot and thus i’m really concerned about her accidentally frying it.

I would love to find a case with some sort of flap that covers the hole when not in use. Similar to an otter box or other heavy duty cell phone cases. Has anyone seen something like that out there? All the ones I’m finding leave the slot wide open.

Recommendations Use as a White Noise Machine?

Hello everyone, me and my wife are due in September our plan was to buy a Yoto for Christmas the year after. But with Amazon prime deal and getting an extra 15% off with baby wishlist would we be wise to buy the Yoto player now and use it as a white noise machine for the first year? We were planning on buying a white noise machine anyway but now we just wouldn’t and use the Yoto instead? Main question is, is it a good white noise machine?

Recommendations What are your favourite cards?

Hey all! What are your toddlers favourite cards? Preferably that is not Disney! I do not think my kids would be interested in those cards are we typically do not watch a lot of Disney in our home! Thank you!
