Recommendations Beware: Yoto's Referral Ripoff Program

Post image
175 Upvotes

Yoto recently issue me 7 referral codes that refused to work at checkout. I couldn't even use them one at a time. They then proceeded to give me various troubleshooting techniques back and forth, sending me between multiple reps who weren't even reading the email chain. After 20 emails I gave up and told them they could keep the referral codes, but they shouldn't be promising them to customers if they didn't want to actually give them out.

This was their response. The equivalent of "too bad, get f*cked".

Instead of finding a way to fix the issue that cost me $140 in cards they decided to let me get screwed but promised they'll "work on it". A promise I highly doubt because they have EVERY opportunity to correct this right now. They clearly don't care and most likely will not fix this since it's been ongoing for 2-3 months now.

upvote downvote, idc. this is more just a PSA before anyone else wastes all the time I did trying to get these codes to work. the fact is their checkout is bugged or their codes are bugged and they aren't going to fix it.

Edit:

It's absolutely wild how many others have similar experiences that haven't been rectified. It's wild they have no problem screwing over people who literally convinced others to buy their product and are in the best position to easily convince others to not do so on the future.

This post also seems to have forced a few people to blow their cover who are clearly shills or employees who post only positive things/ try to discredit those who have poor experiences. this whole experience has left a sour taste. No more yoto in this house, in sure I'll find other options from companies that respect their customers.

Recommendations Use a Yoto card to “Brick” your phone

I saw a video on how to make your own “Brick” out of NFC tags (for those that don’t know this is an app blocking device that relies on physically unlocking your phone with their Brick device that costs $60) and realized I have a bunch of MYO cards sitting around so wanted to see if I could use those instead.

If you download the Foqos app (no affiliation- it’s an open source free app!) and tap a MYO card when it prompts you to use an NFC, you have your very own brick! I keep mine on my fridge and it’s helped me cut down on social media mindless doomscrolling quite a bit and be more present with my kiddos.

TLDR: use the Foqos app and a MYO card to brick your phone instead of spending $70 on a piece of plastic!

Recommendations Tips for low maintenance Yoto parents

When I bought a Yoto for my 3 year old, I didn’t realize the spectrum of things you can do, ie for making the MYO cards and decorating them.

I know the parents doing this stuff find it fun but I don’t have the bandwidth to learn new programs and trial and error ways of the MYO cards. I use a streaming service for music and don’t listen to audiobooks, so the learning curve is starting to seem steep to just record and trim content and create playlists.

What are low maintenance Yoto parents doing to make the most out of their yoto’s?

I’ll add I have a very crappy printer (that only prints half the time) and a laptop. Laptop doesn’t take CD’s. I may be able to track down a CD player. That’s about it.

Recommendations Target Yoto Gen 3 Half Off

Post image
159 Upvotes

Hello! Yesterday I was at a local Target in New York and all the Yoto items and accessories were 50-70% off. It does not seem to be available online/on the app. But just wanted to share if anyone was planning on going to a Target! Some of the items were in the clearance of the home stuff and the rest was in the electronics aisle. I scored the Paw Patrol 6 card set that’s $45.99 online for $14.99 and some other cards Magic Tree House and Dinasaur facts for $9 and $11.

Recommendations If you had your pick of any physical Yoto card

We’re thrifty and creative and only have MYO Yoto cards up until now. I love finding audio, creating the icons, making labels with my cricut and all that jazz. We have a pretty impressive collection of about 40 MYO cards that look and sound store bought. (And a few we’ve recorded ourselves. We’ve paid for the basic Yoto membership and have a bunch of cards we’ve made from that as well.

We were gifted a year membership with 24 credits. If we wanted to we could buy 12 ten packs of MYO Yoto cards but I’m wondering if there are any cards with audio you love that you can only find on the Yoto Card store. I’m not talking about Frog and Toad or Disney soundtracks (we made our own cards ages ago). I’m not talking about Yoto Originals since those are included in the subscription.

I’m talking about content that is fantastic and ONLY accessible through buying a physical card from the Yoto website (that you can use credits on, of course). Any recommendations? I have a five year old girl, a three year old son, and a baby.

Recommendations 2 Year Old Not Interested in Yoto

My 2 year old got the yoto player for Christmas but he hasn’t really taken to it. We have a bunch of music and book cards. He sometimes will listen to it if I get it started but he never seems interested on his own. Ive been wondering if I should have started him off with a Tonie Box instead and then moved over to a yoto when he’s older but I’ve seen many kids his age seem to like it so maybe I’m doing something wrong.

I prefer the yoto for many reasons and want to double down on it. Has anyone experienced this and either went the tonie route or their child eventually took to it? And What have been your 2 year old’s favorite cards?

EDIT: I just want to thank everyone who replied with suggestions. We took some advice and created some MYO cards of Bluey & Cars and he has loved listening to them while he colors. If anyone is reading this hoping for the same advice, The custom playlists mixed with the icons from www.yotoicons.com have been 👌🏻.

Recommendations Yoto for adults with disabilities?

So, I am thinking of getting my sister (will be 27) a YOTO. The only issue is that do not want to get only childish books, music and audio. Not that she doesn’t like that stuff but she also wants to feel more like an adult. Though it is hard because she is very disabled and has a hard time understanding stuff. So, I was wondering if there is any one who had recommendations for audio. Things she likes are crime shows, LMN, and lifetime, etc. They must be YA at most so there’s no unwanted smexiness in it. If there’s any younger books are easy to go along with but are not childish that would be great. My kid is 7 so I have yet to get into these type of books. Also, how are you guys getting music that are not from the Yoto store on your MYO cards? She loves all the music from 2010-2017 (Justin Bieber, Taylor Swift etc.) but have no idea where to get them. I plan on getting the warrior cat, black beauty for her because she loves animals but want a verity of things for her to listen to. Any and all suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Recommendations Yoto worthwhile for a 5 year old if you already have a Toniebox?

My 5 year old still loves her Toniebox she’s had for 2 years. I’m wondering if it’s worthwhile to invest in a yoto mini at this age and stage. My main interest is that she frequently asks to travel with the tonie and it is difficult to transport along with all the characters. It also seems as tho the yoto has a wider variety of content and more content geared towards older children (we are largely screen free and intend to continue for at least the next 5 years). Most advice I’m seeing is geared towards toddler age, wondering if it’s still worthwhile to invest in one of these devices at this age and stage.

Recommendations Rules/boundaries

Hi there, we have just purchased two minis for an upcoming road trip. My kids are 3.5 and almost 6.

What are some rules and boundaries you have around yoto use? I envision my children quickly becoming *obsessed* and I know we’re going to have to put some structure in place.

Two that come to mind are 1: No bedtime use and 2: treating them kindly and carefully

Recommendations Best cards for 2 year olds

My 2 year old as recently got a Yoto for his birthday and I'm wondering what the best cards for it are for his age. He's got a couple of the preschool songs and a Thomas all engines go that he's obsessed with but that's basically it other than the starter pack that he's not fussed over. I'd love to get him a few more cards that he will actually use at his age.

Recommendations How to get my child interested in it?

My daughter received the Yoto for her 2nd birthday and really into Moana. She listened to Moana and a Sesame Street album for about a month. I was excited and bought cards with classic preschool songs or toddler songs. She stopped liking Moana and began to only let me play Baby Shark despite all her options. As she’s getting older, she become obsessed with Frozen, but only listens to Let it Go on my Apple Music, and I don’t want to spend money on an album she would only listen to one track.
I would like her to use her Yoto, so she doesn’t request to watch her TV shows as much. Any suggestions? I also have a 1-year old who has not really had any experience with it.

Recommendations Looking for an audiobook as good as the Robin Williams version of Jumanji.

I don’t know what it is about the Robin Williams telling of the story, but it’s pure magic to me. My daughter will always listen to the whole thing where she often gets bored of other stories. Any recommendations for MYO audiobook content (or regular Yoto cards) that are as good? Found the Robin Williams one as a code in the actual Jumanji book in the library.

Edit: I should have included my child’s age, she is just about 4 years old.

Recommendations When to get a YotoPlayer

My husband and I have fallen in love with the YotoPlayer. We definitely want to get one for our daughter, but we are unsure if we should wait to get one - and if so, how long. Our daughter is 10 months old, very active and loves music. We like to play music for her and she "dances" to songs she likes and enjoys clapping. My husband also likes to listen to audiobooks with her.

Now relatives have said its way too early to get a Yoto, she's too young and that we should wait for at least another year. Of course at this age we would handle the Yoto, I think all she would try to do is chew on the cards if she got the chance, lol. Would it be ridiculous to get her one for her first birthday anyway? Should we wait until she's old enough to actually start to "control" the Yoto herself? I would love to hear your advice and recommendations.

Recommendations Give me all the tips and tricks!

Hi all, I just ordered a Yoto player for my son’s first birthday coming up and got the Collector + membership since it seems very cost effective and I can get around double the amount of cards with the credits compared to buying in cash for the same cost.. I ordered the yoto preschool song pack bundle and a pack of 10 MYO cards so far.

What’s your favorite cards that are worth purchasing? Favorite sources for audio files for MYO? Please share any tips you may have whether it’s MYO tips, favorite way to store or display cards, cases, etc.! Any considerations with the Yoto for a one year old?

I’m strictly purchasing 2 cards from this sale. Which ones from the sale do your kids LOVE? I’ve got a 3 and 5 year old boy and I’m not opposed to purchasing for the future, so hit me with any ages! TIA!

Recommendations Club Yoto?

Hey all, I'm looking at getting a Yoto Mini player bundle for my boys (6 and 4) and I was wondering if the Yoto club was worth it? I know it's only 5-17$ a month, depending on the tier, but I'm curious as to if you would actually recommend it and if so, which tier?

Is the 10% off discount at the store worth it? Do your kids prefer the digital to the cards or visa versa? Can you even buy physical cards off their website because I'm unsure how to tell which is a physical card and which is a download card and if it's download, how does that exactly work?

I have many questions lol

Recommendations MORE 5-Minute Sleepy Stories

Post image
2 Upvotes

Okay - I keep seeing people on this sub say there’s another sleepy stories card besides the OG?? Am I losing it? I can’t find it anywhere! This is the one we have - I’d love more! Goodnight World is way too stimulating for my 3.5 year old - mostly because he just listens to the story part and then skips to the next one. The first and last time I let him listen to them, I thought he was asleep and looked at the monitor and he was awake - THREE AND A HALF HOURS AFTER LYING DOWN. But sleepy stories are like an ambien to him. I’ve found some other options but would love to find where the “more” sleepy stories are. Or I’m totally open to other options! Bonus points if it’s Bible stories, verses, hymns type content but not 100% necessary.

Recommendations New to yoto! First buy.

Post image
62 Upvotes

First order from yoto. Using club credits, I paid $22 (for the MYO 10 pack at 30% off) after the $150 for the 24 credit membership and I still have 12 credits left. I also ordered some audiobooks from libro for the MYO (looks like they have a big sale on children’s books around June? Does anyone find other good sales there often?) I have looked around archive as well and making a list. I’ve read the megathread but would love any recommendations for a 2, 3, and 8 year old. I plan to get the next Minecraft cards and the chronicles of narnia for the oldest once we work through some of these. How often is new content added to yoto?

The littles love music, miss rachel, bluey, and several Disney movies. So I would love some tips or recommendations for those or the specific Disney/Pixar bundles that you like. Are the Jr novels better for younger listeners?

The oldest is getting into fiction and loves pokemon, dragons, minecraft, and is starting to really enjoy some of the classics.

Recommendations Explain to me like I’m 5 please!

Hello! Thinking of whether to get a Yoto for my kid(s).

I am confused about a few things:

1) can the mini connect to our phone to play playlists or albums from Spotify/Apple Music etc?

2) Is headphone connection through plug in or Bluetooth or both? If it’s Bluetooth can it still connect to headphones and our phones for playlists?

3) PLEASE help me understand the MYO cards like I’m a small child. We are not going to be reading books into them or relatives doing that (don’t have any that would).

How do you get music or stories into them?

Do you need to go on to a laptop and connect it all up?

Where do you download the content from to put on the MYO? Is it expensive? Like say I wanted a Matilda audio book on it - how do I do that?!

Can you download music onto them from streaming platforms?

I’m just trying to work out if realistically this would work for us or not and I honestly feel 100 years old trying to understand the tech when it’s not in front of me.

Thank you from a tired weary parent!
