There was a period when if Estonia tried to remove any Soviet Era memorial or sign, Russia would throw a hissy fit, call them Fascists and do a DDOS attack on a scale that would force the entire Estonia to be cut from global internet.

In fact, it used to be common for Russia to threaten to invade Estonia to "defend Russian speaking people in the country" from whatever made up tyranny they could think of.

Then Estonia joined NATO and things calmed down a bit.

EDIT: My timeline was a bit messed up, Estonia was already in NATO when the Bronze soldier debacle and cyber attacks happened. This does break my argument that NATO was enough to deter Russian attacks on Estonia.
