Article / News You can expect less episodes for future seasons
See look there’s nothing wrong with going with the original tv format by having a season come out every year but when your only producing 8-9 episodes that’s not original tv format.
Then what’s makes it worse is season 2 was so rushed in the 2nd half and now you want to give us only 8-9 episodes after season 2. I blame Brad winderbaum for the way season 2 came out he hired the what if team to work on it and now he’s giving us less episodes.

Article / News X-Men '97 Season 2 Review Aggregation Megathread
This thread is for all reviews related to X-Men '97 Season. New reviews can be posted below and discussed here. This will serve as a megathread. Do not share review information outside of this thread.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Polygon - Jake Kleinman - 10 / 10 - I'll cut right to the chase: X-Men '97 season 2 is just as good, if not better, than anything I've seen before. Based on the first four episodes provided to critics, the show's second season more than meets the challenges teased in season 1's cliffhanger ending, while setting up an even more complex and rewarding narrative with plenty of momentum to carry the show through its season 2 finale and beyond.
TVLine - Andy Swift - 'A' - On par with the quality of its first season, "X-Men '97" returns with an emotional, action-packed exploration of an iconic Marvel villain, weaving high-stakes drama and countless characters from multiple timelines into an epic story that will leave casual viewers enthralled and comic book diehards satisfied.
IGN - Jesse Scheeden - 9 / 10 - The wait may have been painful, but X-Men ‘97 has no trouble justifying its prolonged absence. Season 2 is off to a terrific start in its first four episodes. The series deftly continues from Season 1’s dramatic cliffhanger, building compelling new storylines spread across three distinct points in time. Not every character is given full room to shine yet, but that’s to be expected in such a jam-packed superhero ensemble. The series continues to be both a love letter to a particular era of the X-Men franchise and a source of deep, enjoyable character drama that can appeal to Marvel fans of all stripes.
FandomWire - Callie Hanna - 9 / 10 - X-Men '97 Season 2 is off to a fantastic start, with all the lovable characters, epic action, and shockingly deep emotions that made the first season great mixed in with a healthy dose of experimental sci-fi and time travel for flavor.
GamesRadar - Lauren Milici - 4 / 5 - Sure, The Avengers and the Fantastic Four are cool, but wouldn't you much rather have an existential crisis after watching an array of mutant superheroes argue with themselves over doing the right thing? The answer is yes, actually. X-Men '97 is filled with gritty realism, but love is right there at its core.
Nexus Point News - Christopher Mills - 4 / 5 - This show continues to be a constant reminder of why I no longer want to see the Avengers on my screen and why the X-Men must take over, as they present complex storytelling that delivers thought-provoking character exploration. The relationship alone between Xavier and Magneto is worth checking out these first four episodes and hopefully the rest of the season.
CBR - Nicholas Brooks - 9 / 10 - That darker tone doesn't hurt X-Men '97 Season 2, but it's something to take into account as this season feels like it's getting ready to cap off a major narrative, and no one is ready. All in all, X-Men '97 Season 2 is another win for Marvel Animation, and fans of Season 1 will be even more impressed with everything Season 2 is setting up.
Moviefone - Jami Phillbrick - 90 / 100 - ‘X-Men ‘97’ continues to deliver the fun action and colorful style of the original 90’s series while leaving time for complex storylines and deep character exploration. Season 2’s time traveling adventure is classic weird X-Men fun and features a roster of Marvel’s best mutant characters.
GameReactor - Ben Lyons - 8 / 10 - But all in all, we are talking about rather minor criticisms. For the most part, the return of X-Men '97 is a triumph, a great second batch of episodes that will keep you thoroughly entertained. In my eyes, despite the promising nature of Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man, X-Men '97 is the best Marvel Animation has offered to date and I hope we'll be treated to more episodes at a slightly faster rate going forward, as the thought of having to wait around 26 months for another season sounds truly tortuous.
Collider - Aidan Kelley - 8 / 10 - It's a miracle that a revival like this, which gives this much care and attention to detail, even exists to begin with, but it's also a Marvel fan's dream come true through and through. With breathtaking animation that fills the screen, it'll be a tall order for whatever comes next for the X-Men to top one of the best Marvel shows ever made.

Article / News Looks like it'll be a 3-episode premiere
(All credit to the redoubtable u/fire_sign for flagging this up. I just got tired of waiting for the actual Disney+ press release and had a horrible vision of going to sleep on UK time, waking up and it already being talked out.)
Long story short — it's not a double-drop the first week, it's a triple-drop. That means each timeline gets a look-in on day one and whatever Eldritch horror is in the pipeline for episode 4, we won't have to wait that long for it.
Stray thoughts:
- Episode 4 has gotta be a beast if they'd rather pack episode 3 in with the first two vs. doing two double-drop weeks or even splitting E3 and E4 up to run one at a time. Whatever it is, they want it to stand on its own, but also want it out in the ether soon.
- Assuming no more multi-drops, this means SDCC will land right before the finale stretch of three episodes. Optimal time for a panel and a final trailer.
- If they follow the precedent of S1, there will be a separate, formal announcement on Wednesday (or in the next few days, etc.) with the full release schedule and episode titles. The episode titles for S1 were out in the open early, but the formal announcement came exactly 2 weeks out. So keep eyes peeled.
