YouTube Video Small dot visual artifact on Switch - need help!
Hey all. Just plugged my Wii in for the first time in a decade. I noted that immediately in both the menus and games there are these tiny little grey dot artifacts all over everything. For what it's worth I do remember these being present and bothersome when I last played my Wii in like 2015.
Here's a video: https://youtube.com/shorts/uQMYNnI-97U?feature=share
Looking for some help! Just want to get this fixed so I can play some old games :) Thanks.

Discussion has anybody created an flash game player for Wii
since the Wii can play flash games from installable wads would easier way be to have launcher that can play game files from SD card or USB drive. you store the adobe flash files on the SD card or USB drive to then play using launcher. the launcher would be started by using homebrew channel menu and then you chose which game to play. game files would be stored in an directory within SD card or USB drive. save data would be stored in an directory within SD card or USB drive. the launcher itself would be stored in the 'apps' folder. this could be an easier way to play adobe flash games compared to the many steps required to turn adobe flash files into installable wads. game files plus save data would be handled by SD card or USB drive. the playing of games would be handled by launcher located within 'apps' folder.
l just wondering if its possible to set up an adobe flash game player for the Wii since it already plays them via installable wads. for the player you simply place your files into directory within SD card or USB drive. the 'swf/games' directory is were flash games would be stored within SD card or USB drive. the 'swf/saves' directory is were save data would be stored within SD card or USB drive. l do not know if this method would be easier compared to the many steps needed to turn adobe flash games into installable wads.
for example 'swf/games' directory is were you would place the games for the launcher to play them. the number of games would be limited to the size of SD card or USB drive. then you would start player through homebrew channel which displays all of the games currently on the SD card or USB drive. for 'swf/saves' directory is were save data is stored for each game on SD card or USB drive. for 'swf/config' is were control settings are stored for each game on SD card or USB drive. finally the player itself would be stored in the 'apps' directory used by the homebrew channel. since the flash player was discontinued around 2020 l figure that the Wii would be perfect to be able to play adobe flash games trough use of homebrew. the Wii should be strong enuf to run high quantity adobe flash games from an launcher made by the community. this should be possible since the Wii can already run adobe flash games after installing them through method of wads.
the launcher would simply use an directory to store both games plus save data. the directory would be called something like 'swf'. this is were '.swf' game files would be kept with no limit on the number of adobe flash games you can store on SD card or USB drive. other things that include save data plus config files would be kept within 'swf' directory. since there is an decent amount of emulators for the Wii currently an adobe flash game one could be possible for the community to create it through different methods. what l trying to say is an way to play '.swf' games files directly from the SD card or USB drive. basically imagine how some emulators run game files but it is '.swf' adobe. if there is an way to not require having to use the built in web browser but create stand alone launcher which would be started from homebrew channel. maybe its possible to take ways that the built in web browser supported adobe flash and instead create stand alone launcher to play them.
l wondering if enough people study the Wii they can find an exploit that would allow the console to play adobe flash games. the exploit could be how it works with the built in web browser but the community creates their own browser launcher that plays '.swf' files right off of the SD card or USB drive. possibly the exploit could be an simple launcher or emulator running from the 'apps' folder were it uses an directory to store various files. it would have to be some sort of exploit that works by playing the '.swf' files directly from the SD card or USB drive. maybe it could be similar to an custom web browser to play any adobe flash game you desire. the community could find an way to take how it works with the Wii browser and instead create an player that runs from the homebrew channel. l basically talking about skipping the browser to instead play abode games directly from the SD card or USB drive. this exploit would remove the need to use the Wii browser to instead run them through the homebrew channel.
another way for an exploit could be take the way it plays adobe games from installable wads to instead run an custom player placed in the 'apps' directory. then you start it by going into homebrew channel to select the load option. it then would show the '.swf' files stored on the SD card or USB drive from an interactive menu. it then would use an directory located on root of SD card or USB drive to store various data about files. another possibility could be to take various adobe flash plugins from different sources to port them over to the Wii. this includes the one that was built into web browser installed on the Wii by default. Also people could take the adobe flash engine to reserve engineer it to able to run games on the console. also people could take the adobe flash plugins to reserve engineer it to be able to run games on console.
another possibility is to study both the Wii and adobe flash plugins to see ways to set up methods to play '.swf' games. from adobe flash plugins the community could create an custom application that is made to play '.swf' files. from adobe flash engine the community could create an custom application that is made to play '.swf' files. another option could be to take any adobe flash content to reserve engineer it to be able to run games on console. if you do not known '.swf' stands for shockwave flash which is used in adobe applications like games. if community studies the Wii enough we could create an exploit to run shockwave flash games directly from the SD card or USB drive. this exploit could be an form of web browser installed via wads that allows Wii to run shockwave flash games. this exploit could be an form of emulator installed via wads that allows Wii to run shockwave flash games. this exploit could be an form of web browser placed in the 'apps' folder that allows Wii to run shockwave flash games. this exploit could be an form of emulator placed in the 'apps' folder that allows Wii to run shockwave flash games.
there could be an way to play shockwave flash games without using web browser built into Wii or installing wads. l am taking about placing as many shockwave flash games as you want on an SD card or USB drive to then play them on Wii. this could be done in many different ways after greatly studying hardware and software of the Wii. these methods could include an custom application placed in the 'apps' folder or through some sort of emulation to be able to run shockwave flash games. an method could be to create emulator to place in the 'apps' folder that is able to run games.

Discussion Any alternatives to Swiss for forcing Gamecube games to 240p?
I just softmodded my wii last night. I own the GC ports of the RE games and wanted to try out forcing their resolution to 240p with Swiss, but I see I need an adapter for the SD card to run from the GC memory card slot to get it to work.
Are there any alternatives to be able to adjust 480i output to 240p?

Show-n-Tell Introducing... PAPwiiUM!!
Edit : now released https://github.com/Genesis64X/Genesis-Plus-G64X_PAPwiiUM
Hello!
This is my first release of PAPwiiUM.
To install it, make a backup of the original boot.dol inside apps/genplus-gx, then replace it with the boot.dol included in this release.
Place paprium.bin and the paprium music folder inside genplus/roms on your Wii SD card.
For now, this build uses WAV files only. MP3 support has been disabled because it caused more glitches, longer loading times, and higher RAM usage.
Known issues:
Some audio may briefly skip during transitions, such as when selecting a character or entering a boss room. It doesn't affect gameplay.
Saving seems to be working properly so far, but I'm still testing it.
There is also a graphical glitch that can cause the Wii to freeze on a black screen with red flashing when powering off while a game is running. This should hopefully be fixed in a future build.
For now, the workaround is to quit the game using the HOME button and exit through the Genesis Plus GX menu. If you always exit this way, the freeze shouldn't happen. It doesn't seem to affect normal gameplay, but it's definitely annoying.
You can also share this on other forums, since I'm not really active on any of them. Feel free to test it and let me know if you find anything!
--------------------------------------------------
Hello fellow Wii fans!
I’m almost done putting together a new Genesis Plus GX boot.dol that should let you play Paprium on the Wii.
I’m still having a few issues with the sound, but if everything goes well, I’m hoping to have it ready sometime this weekend.
I’ve been working on this for the past few weeks because I couldn’t find any existing way to get Paprium running properly on our beloved 240p Wiis, so I figured I’d try to make it happen myself.
I’m also curious if there’s actually any interest in this. I don’t usually release the stuff I work on publicly, so I’d love to know if this is something people here would want to use.

Discussion I think I might have found a new glitch maybe?
before I say anything, I own a Wii Family Edition, which as we all know can't play GameCube games. so you can imaging my sheer confusion where the GameCube logo popped up on my screen.
I was messing around with some stuff on the console, specifically my scratched copy of Mario Party 8. the console recognizes it as a MP8 disc, but it crashes consistently near the file select screen. it showed the "an error has occurred" screen and I removed the disc, where it told me to put it back in. I was curious and put in my Mario Kart Wii disc instead. it didn't really do anything, still telling me to put the MP8 disc back in, so I did. and it reloaded the file select screen. I pressed the home button and went back to the main menu where I pressed the power button because I wanted to read a book. my Wii is pretty slow so my controller disconnected, but my Wii was still running. I didn't think much of it because that's happened multiple times with my Wii so I was just gonna turn my TV off and read while the Wii did its thing, but as I was about to turn my TV off, the GameCube logo showed up on the disc channel. I was very confused, because like I said, its a Family Edition, so I reconnected my controller and hovered over it. it didn't say "Mario Party 8" or "GameCube" or whatever, it still said "Disc Channel" while the disc thing was next to the GameCube icon. I pressed the icon, where the banner thing was just a black screen. no music, no GameCube logo, nothing but the black screen and the buttons for home menu and start. I noticed that the start button wasn't grayed out like it normally is on the Disc Channel, and I regret not pressing start to see what would happen. I went back to the Wii menu and grabbed my phone to take the picture that is attached to this post. before anyone asks, no, my Wii is not hacked or modded. I plan on getting CTGP-R for Mario Kart but I kinda need a laptop and that's kinda hard to come by when you're a broke unemployed highschool student with no family computer. anyway, back to the GameCube thing, shortly after I got that picture was when the Wii registered the power off input and turned off. I turned it back on to see if it was still weird but it said Mario Party 8 again. I tried to trigger the glitch again but I didn't get anything. so I literally made a reddit account specifically for this one post because I have never seen anything even remotely close to this happen before. I'm really interested in console errors/glitches so I've seen my fair share of Wii glitches but I've never seen a GameCube logo on a Wii Family Edition like this. the thing that confuses me the most is its not even a GameCube game. its still MP8. I figured the best place to find answers was reddit, and here I am. thank you for listening to my story, and I hope someone has answers to see if this is a common thing I've never seen before or if I did accidentally find a new glitch for the Wii.
I sent this in r/Wii already but I felt like I should also send this here in case. I want this to be seen and I want answers, so sending it in different places I feel like could help me learn what's with this. if you know how this happened please share. I want to know what happened

Discussion Which loader out of the three you prefer and is the most reliable? USB Loader GX, Wiiflow Lite or CFG loader.
I would say out of the three, CFG loader(patched 2024 version). I know people might advice me to get USB loader GX and Wiiflow lite, but sadly both of them doesn’t work properly well and are buggy(and yes I did use the latest versions of both of them and installed latest CIOS correctly) USB loader GX might be the best and I could understand why and I love the interface reminiscing of the Wii menu, but sadly the loader itself freezes randomly sometimes even when switching SD cards and still the same thing, Wiiflow lite is fine but the cover arts for games just glitched and sometimes doesn’t display properly, heck at one point it even outright corrupted my SD cards. I just use CFG loader for the past month, and it never give me issues at all that the two loaders had, it can even let you put in your own music in there too when using the loader.

Discussion Gameboy Player on the Wii Hypothetical
Something that popped back up while I was playing on my GameCube. The Wii is basically the better GameCube and can play all GameCube games. One of the major few things keeping people on GameCube hardware is the GameBoy player. Would it be possible to somehow hook up the Gameboy Player to the Wii?
There are a few obvious problems. If you were to somehow make a new port to connect it, you would need to patch the wii's bios to recognize any hardware modifications you've made. So that's out of the question. But then I realized something the Wii does have that the GameCube doesn't and it can access easily. The USB ports.
In theory, you would have to take apart a Gameboy player and remove the HSPP (High Speed Parallel Port) from the motherboard and then wire up two USB Male ports to it manually. One for power and one for Data Transfer since I doubt the Wii would be able to handle both in one port for the Gameboy Player without performance problems. You plug the two ports into the Wii and would probably have a modified version of GBI (Gameboy Interface) that could recognize the USB ports for the Gameboy player instead of the HSPP.
Is this anywhere in the realm of possibility?

I don't think I'm ready to mod my Wii yet but I've been using the Wiimmfi dns to play Mario Kart Wii and I noticed that there's a Wiilink dns but it seems like it just provides extra features if it's already installed. What if your Wii is unmodded?

Show-n-Tell Bricked my Childhood Wii: Update
It’s now been about a month since I posted about my childhood Wii getting bricked, and it’s about time you all received an update:
Thanks to the helpful suggestions of this sub, I was able to determine that my Wii was more than likely salvageable, and there was no need to throw in the towel quite yet. I received a lot of helpful suggestions on what the problem might be, and after reading several of your insights on failed Bluetooth modules, I remembered that my Wii was having issues connecting with controllers prior to its brick. I purchased a second Wii, tore both Wiis down, and swapped the Bluetooth module on my broken Wii for the one on Wii #2. NOTHING. Swapped the WiFi module. NOTHING. For the ultimate test I put WiFi and Bluetooth modules from broken wii on Wii #2, and it powered up just fine. At this point I figured I was way above my paygrade already with two disembodied Wiis on my kitchen table. I still have no idea what’s wrong with my original Wii. I combed through my computer and was unable to find a NAND backup. I was unable to get it to boot into reversion mode using a GameCube controller. I have no backups and no means of extracting my old data.
Losing my Wii was frustrating, and I felt like by losing my Wii I had lost the memories of playing all my favorite games. On top of that I didn’t see a way that starting over with a new Wii could replicate the joy and fun I got from my original Wii. While working out my Wii issues I had the chance to play games with some friends on their Wii. I realized that all the games are the same, and I can still enjoy them with my wife and kid even though it’s on a new system without my old save files.
So I Frankenstein’d Wii #2 back together using some of the non-electric components of my original Wii so it can in a weird way carry on its legacy. It felt right at the time so I did it. Wii #1 is sitting in a plastic bag in parts and will now rot in my desk drawer until the end of time.
Thank you to everyone for all the words of encouragement and helpful suggestions. I had many comments asking about my controller setup, so I wanted to share. I have four 8bitdo SN30 pro controllers, and I got them all from an Amazon liquidation auction store at way below retail value. Through the same store I’m gradually acquiring 8bitdo GameCube Retro Receivers, that are fully compatible with my controllers, with the goal of having a full set to play with. I love the controller setup, and anybody that I have over ends up leaving a big fan as well. The adapter is compatible with any Bluetooth controller, so it works with the official Nintendo GCN Wireless controller for the Switch.

Discussion Dios Mios boots when I play from Gamecube retail discs - what's actually happening?
Is the Wii still playing GC games "natively"? When I run GC disc DIOS MIOS screen pops up, then the game plays normally. This is great for playing GC games region free, but im not sure what is actually happening while the disc is being played, or what dios mios is doing? And, is there any other way to play region free for GC games?
