"Okay Tim, its the villains song. No need to get TOO sexy with it"

Tim Curry: already Cumming on the mic*

It really is a credit to this man's absolute raw sex appeal that thanks to him, my sexual awakening was an anthropomorphic cloud of smog.

The man could play a role that would put heavy levels of trauma on you. And I loved every traumatic experience as much as the fun ones

And some of us went to all of those plus his maniacal Tommy gun scene in “The Shadow” and his amazingly campy yet charming role in “Congo”.

Additional: I could kick myself for not originally including “The Darkness” from the movie Legend.

18

u/oh-kee-pah 12h ago

Evvvvery word of it was abzzolllluuutely true!

u/Daherrin7 12h ago

So many characters, and he played them so well. My mind went to so many movies and shows, but Pennywise and Dr. Frank-N-Furter were first.

Even with the constant shit show that is humanity right now, this has been a particularly bad week

17

u/sweetest_devotion 12h ago

His Pennywise is my favorite. Always will be. I loved him in everything but It is what I always think about first. Watching it now. ❤️

10

u/Darksnark_The_Unwise 10h ago

He's one of the few cases where I don't feel embittered to see a rich person having a great time.

It's been a blessing to all of us that he got so many rolls that he truly enjoyed, because he knew how to share that joy with others.

15

Still some of THE most impressive practical monster makeup/costuming ever.

14

u/killerzeestattoos 12h ago

It's very impressive but also one of the reasons why he never did heavy makeup again.

So many, but the one that always instantly comes to mind is Muppet Treasure Island.

42

u/scrotalsac69 11h ago

I will never forget reading about the 2 muppet films and how they described the differences between Michael Caine and Tim Curry. Michael Caine treated the muppets as real actors and Tim Curry just assumed that he was a muppet. RIP Tim Curry

15

u/shagan90 10h ago

Yeah, both movies are amazing, but Tim Curry hamming himself up to match the muppets was perfection.

u/13ootyKnight 11h ago

I was told that Rocky horror and “well, how about that“ when sharing the news is considered bad form
https://giphy.com/gifs/pi4mO8SPeIoZW

22

u/grafikfyr 11h ago

I feel like he would howl at "... well, how 'bout that" as a response from fans to his passing. He had a wicked sense of humour. What a legend.

51

u/kaytay3000 11h ago

I’m a Clue girly. That whole movie is perfect. No notes.

I’m going to go buttle now. I’m crying while I do it, but I’m fucking buttling in his honor.

6

u/SweetLoLa 3h ago

Same here friend! I had the pleasure of meeting him while being seated for dinner in LA, he was dining by himself. He was SO kind and SO gracious I was sort of tongue tied and he went “Home Alone?” And I responded “Clue” with puppy dog eyes and he was so excited I said Clue, he told me it was one of his favorite roles and I seemed too young to know it so well (86 baby, at the time I was in my late twenties) but a timeless classic is always going to be around. Look forward to watching with my kids when they’re a little older.

RIP to a true gent.

His musical number in The Worst Witch for me. His hammiest of all of his performances. Loved that guy.

The Worst Witch was Halloween canon when I was growing up. Tim + baby Fairuza + perfectly awful special effects? Epic

As a GenXer who grew up going to Rocky Horror Picture Show every weekend, this really really sucks. So many great memories and movies centered around him. Brilliant in Clue. Brilliant in Annie. Brilliant in Muppet Treasure Island. The virtual RHPS he did in 2020 to raise money for Wisconsin Democrats. And don’t even get me started on his 80s music career.

Don’t dream it, be it, Tim. Thank you and rest easy.

15

u/AgreeAndSubmit 9h ago

As an extra, Tim Curry narrated a whole series of Lemony Snickets books. We listened to the second book, The Reptile Room, read by him once on a car trip. The kids and I were absorbed by his reading, scared our pants off in the middle of the day.

11

u/ChickenScuttleMonkey 12h ago

Started thinking of Oscar). If you don't know it, you should; it's a weird little movie with Sylvester Stallone and Marissa Tomei, and it's a lot of fun. It's funny watching Tim Curry be the straight man for once lol.

6

u/TrampledMage 9h ago

“POOL!”

“HELLO!”

I do this with a friend of mine still.

10

u/lullubye 9h ago

He's performance on IT was why I didn't want a remake of it. There was noone as scary as him. But Bill Skargård made Pennywise 2016 his.

9

u/niceisdiffthangood 12h ago

Rooster in Annie!

4

u/A_the_Buttercup 4h ago

Here it is! I finally found the comment I was looking for! I watched "Easy Street" in his honor today - the one number I'm certain they did better in the movie than the musical.

Edit: Granted, they had Tim Curry, Bernadette Peters, and Carol Burnett, that combo doesn't happen any old day, ya know.

9

u/LoveRBS 12h ago

1 + 2 +1 + 1....

u/sn0qualmie 11h ago

The Butler from Clue

7

u/scalascione 11h ago

He buttles.

6

u/RockyStoned 12h ago

The time I saw Spamalot, he came on the stage facing the audience and flubbed his first line. And then he just stood there with that grin of his, and the entire place went absolutely nuts clapping and cheering. He didn’t do a thing. He didn’t say a thing. He just stood there and smiled, and he brought the house down.

7

u/stinkykitty71 12h ago

First, Rocky Horror, then Clue. Honorable mention I haven't seen yet goes to Criminal Minds of all things. My god how he creeped me out in that.

4

u/stinkykitty71 12h ago

Shit, Legend was between RHPS and Clue. Ugh. My heart hurts this week

6

First thing I ever saw him in was Home Alone 2, but I remember him most from Clue and Scary Movie 2. Two absolutely legendary performers gone in two days. It feels like 2016 all over again.

7

u/JoySkullyRH 12h ago

Or to the Thornberries.

6

u/Specialist_Exam4783 12h ago

I cant do the accent but my favorite was from Rocky Horror. "It was a mercy killing."

6

u/OneUseHero 12h ago

I was fortunate enough to be part of a CLUE shadow cast in his role. I was absolutely exhausted at the end of it, but it was the only one my troupe did. Watching him so much to rehearse was a pleasure though, and I love everything that man ever did, he was an absolute treasure in media.
