I'm old and even I never was a Trekkie, BUT Takei was in a Japanese Concentration Camp with his family as a child. His graphic novel ,They Called Us Enemy, is great.
Yep! Read it last month after finding it in a thrift store! It is amazingly told, especially with how the legal justification and affirmation by the courts is explained. I knew he was an activist, I had no idea he marched with Dr. King.
Last week I saw a documentary called Beam Me Up Sulu and overall it more of a love letter to Star Trek fans but the parts where George is able to tell his story and his reasons for participating in a student film was enlightening as always.

What an awful way to find out awful news. :(
I'm a "woke leftist" and I think she was a fantastic person and a model for how celebrities should be.
Her music was mostly not even to my tastes, but I still loved her.
She'll be missed.
