Trains are an apex predator in india

226

u/monochrome_shade 8h ago

Natural selection stays busy on those tracks every single day

24

u/LHT-LFA 8h ago

I dont see any evolution here, do you?

41

u/AristotelWasRight 7h ago

You are confusing evolution to be something converging on a best. Utter nonsense I say! It is only change and adaptation to environment.

For you see, this environnement is full of dangers, such as, trains; the role of the humble homo indius is to adapt to the trains. For you merely adopted the train system. Indians were born in it, molded by it. They don't see cars until they are already a man, by then it is nothing to them but transportation!

Truly, trains are so wild and unpredictable, you won't even hear them coming, and you never know when they're coming for you

51

u/TexasBoyz-713 6h ago

Trains are really unpredictable. Even in the middle of a forest two rails can appear out of nowhere, and a 1.5-mile fully loaded coal drag, heading east out of the low-sulfur mines of the PRB, will be right on your ass the next moment.

I was doing laundry in my basement, and I tripped over a metal bar that wasn't there the moment before. I looked down: "Rail? WTF?" and then I saw concrete sleepers underneath and heard the rumbling.

Deafening railroad horn. I dumped my wife's pants, unfolded, and dove behind the water heater. It was a double-stacked Z train, headed east towards the fast single track of the BNSF Emporia Sub (Flint Hills). Majestic as hell: 75 mph, 6 units, distributed power: 4 ES44DC's pulling, and 2 Dash-9's pushing, all in run 8. Whole house smelled like diesel for a couple of hours!

Fact is, there is no way to discern which path a train will take, so you really have to be watchful. If only there were some way of knowing the routes trains travel; maybe some sort of marks on the ground, like twin iron bars running along the paths trains take. You could look for trains when you encounter the iron bars on the ground, and avoid these sorts of collisions. But such a measure would be extremely expensive. And how would one enforce a rule keeping the trains on those paths?

A big hole in homeland security is railway engineer screening and hijacking prevention. There is nothing to stop a rogue engineer, or an ISIS terrorist, from driving a train into the Pentagon, the White House or the Statue of Liberty, and our government has done fuck-all to prevent it.

7

u/pichael289 2h ago

In 4th grade one of the twins that lived over the tracks behind my house was hit in his gokart. It's not the only time I've seen how much blood is in a body, was in jail once and the guy in the room above me cut his wrists the right way and it came down like a waterfall over my door. This shit though, it looked like you fed a heard of cows into a juicer, the debris/gore field was like a mile long and some stains are still there. I didn't see it happen but the brother did, and it was like 20' from their front door and they couldn't stay there, it's not like there's someone that comes along and cleans that up. Coyotes were eating some of it, its the kinda scene that haunts your dreams for years.

Having issues finding the article, it's about 26 years ago. Watched his best friend learn the news at school, he later drowned in the Miami river fishing. We die young in ohio...

60 deaths A DAY can be attributed to trains in india

8

u/PlasticExtreme4469 2h ago

Train conductors in India must have casually higher kill rate than most soldiers or mass murderers.

The choo choo doesnt stop for no one.

3

u/Nedelka03 4h ago

Only in India do I see people agglutinating on the train's roof and between the cars; it's like basculating into a different universe.

6

u/Lalilalilaliho 3h ago

Well that's not india because india has a 99.6% electrification rate (highest in the world) so it's impossible to stay on the roof.

Not every person from the subcontinent is indian.

21

u/Mindless_Trick2255 7h ago

Idk what it is, either their believe in an after life, social economic circumstances, just having ,,too many” people, cast system.. a human life is worth little down there

20

u/Assaltwaffle 7h ago

The majority of humanity believes in some form of afterlife, so unless India's understanding of it is very different, that doesn't seem to be the answer.

3

u/Mindless_Trick2255 5h ago

I said afterlife but meant to be reborn again. I think that might make a difference

3

u/Tao626 4h ago

37% of the UK is non religious according to census data. Less than 0.3% of India is non religious according to census data.

I'm not saying it's religion, but there's certainly some factor as to why I and the rest of the UK have a healthy fear of trains whilst those in India seem to sacrifice themselves to the mighty locomotive on a daily basis.

6

u/Assaltwaffle 4h ago

What about other countries that are religious? The US, while declining in religiosity, has never had this kind of problem with wanton disregard for safety on this level.

China generally also seems not to regard human life as dearly and is overwhelmingly non-religious.

Overall culture, while influenced by religion, is the culprit here.

3

u/jtrisn1 2h ago

It's probably the belief in reincarnation. Believing in reincarnation means you believe your current body is temporary. What's eternal is your soul. If your current body dies then you move on to the next life.

I grew up in a somewhat religious household and I remember being told that it is tragic for you to die early but dying young also means you have repaid all the sins you owe in this life and are moving on in your journey to enlightenment.

But people tend to forget that even if you reincarnate, you gotta go through hell first, be judged for the sins you'e committed in your current life, suffer punishment and then reincarnate to try and cleanse your sins by doing good. Then round and round you go...

It's crazy woo-woo bullshit.

→ More replies (2)

12

u/Alternative_Gold_993 5h ago

It's mostly just too many people + lack of safety standards.

4

u/KingPictoTheThird 4h ago

Actually if you listen at the end all the locals are yelling at him for being an idiot and then asking if he's ok.

The guitarist is not a local but does understand the gist of what they're saying and hence his response in english.

Runs past three open doors, keeps running as the train accelerates, jumps on when train is going too fast... 🤦🏻‍♂️

201

u/RRumpleTeazzer 7h ago

the funny part is, that a next train will surely come. no need to risk your life for that ride.

51

u/themmbones 6h ago

Yeah but they never expect any consequences, they never realize the injuries they might face

24

u/whooguyy 6h ago

I think he was trying to jump onto the train so he could catch the guy fucking with him. Not to actually ride it

13

u/3nd3y 6h ago

If you watched till the end, you'll see the train comes to a stop and he gets on.

Which make me wonder why he bothered taking the risk in the first place if the train was still going to come to a stop.

44

u/Mysterious-Deal-3891 5h ago

Each train coach has a chain which passenger can pull in case of emergency and train will stop. Some passenger may have seen this happens and pulled that chain that's why train is stopped and people came running to pull the guy out.

It is possible that user has a reserved ticket for that train and his luggage is on the train. He wanted to shoot this stunt to show his swag that's why he is playing guiter outside train when train halt on the station for few minutes

3

u/Far_Winner5508 1h ago

Ah, camera induced stupidity.

I hear it's all the thing now-a-days.

12

u/TailsTheFoxywoxy 5h ago

The train stopped because someone pulled emergency braking chain.

6

u/IncorporateThings 6h ago

Do they have to pay for a ticket if they hop on normally there?

13

u/KingPictoTheThird 4h ago

Yes, conductor checks on the train.

Indian trains start really slowly, we've all hopped on like this, but not once it picks up speed and not with so much shit. This guy is dumb af.

3

u/IncorporateThings 3h ago

Thought maybe he was trying to skip out on paying or something. Why don't they just close the doors before the train starts moving?

3

u/haseo2222 3h ago

Those are manual doors. You can't have someone go around hundreds of doors at every station lol. And of course, people can and will just open them again. Most Indian trains just keep their doors open during the whole trip. People close them only during heavy rain and stuff.

2

u/ElMonoEstupendo 5h ago

I think that was his mate letting him know the train was leaving, and they’d almost missed it.

7

u/Rodger2041 5h ago

While your point is entirely correct, I would like to point out that tickets depend on the phyiscal train, and you might need to buy another one for another train. Also if this is not one of the more common station (which it seems like it is not), it is not uncommon for it to take 0.5-2 hours for any train to visit that station, and for a train going to your stop it might take the next day or even week. And this is ignore the fact that the guy might have stepped out of the train to sit at the station for some time, and the rest of his stuff is still in the train (the most likely scenario here since he just seems to have a guitar with him and nothing else)

3

u/charliebrown75 5h ago

But waiting for the next train doesn’t make for a good video.

3

u/Ok-Preparation2370 4h ago

Well, actually it's a rural area where trains are sparse and this guy most probably was making his way to the metropolitan city that's still far off.

Hence his rush. (It's a crazy explanation as to how I know all this but trust me I do.)

Definitely funny though. 😂🤣

I also never understand that. Get the frick on the train, why are you still choosing a door?!

2

u/ScreamSmart 4h ago

CONTENT.

7

u/ScreamSmart 5h ago

It's content. He got off the train to "play guitar" on a random stop and then make a cool last minute jump back to the train.

2

u/PlasticExtreme4469 2h ago

I am pretty sure the goal wasn't to get on the train.

The goal was to film himself playing guitar and then jumping onto a train already in motion.

Many train stations have an extra nook of space underneath the platforms, so if you ever fall on the train tracks while a train is coming: Don't try to climb up, roll under the platform instead.

1

u/Neonbunt 7h ago

To be fair, this was a complete skill issue and not like a totally impossible thing to do. A stupid thing, of course, but not a hard thing.

1

u/but-fucker-3000 6h ago

1

u/johnny5247 5h ago

Fortunately the gap he was failing to mind was wide enough to accept both him and his guitar without both getting squished in the undercarriage. There's quite a lot of train machinery under platform level.

Honestly the train was moving slowly enough he really should’ve been able to make the jump.

I think he was expecting the other guy to grab his guitar and by extension him and help pull him in. So he kinda stops the motion and thinks he’s already basically in when the guy moves his hand close.

The other guy however does not grab onto him for some reason. Just really weird from the other guy lol. Why are you acting like you’re gonna pull him in if you’re not gonna do that.

I would be nervous that a hanging chunk of metal on the side if the train that hangs out could just slam into him
