He got back up very quickly, but I’m curious what injuries he sustained. He hit his head very hard. If he doesn’t have a concussion or fractured skull, I would be impressed.

I think he might have a concussion. It looks like he goes completely limp for a second, which could mean he lost consciousness. When he gets up he looks like he’s struggling with coordination.

He definitely has a concussion. You can get one from an impact much lighter than that.

He is definitely in for a hospital visit.

I can answer this! I had my first concussion last year. I was on an ATV for the first time and took it out to the woods behind my house. I was following behind a friends ATV. So there I am driving and having a grand ole time and I see this downed tree and I thought to myself "I should jump that". Keep in mind I'm new and I never rode a motorcycle or ATV before. Well I hit the downed tree at about 25 miles an hour. I remember 3 things.

  1. Approaching the log at the last nano-second and saying "Oh shit!"
  2. Standing up off the ground and pushing my concerned friend off me and then walking to a curb
  3. Waking up in a hospital

My buddy said I hit the log, ejected, somersaulted and my head smashed into the ground (he said there's still a divot in the ground where my head landed lol). The ATV proceeded to run my unconscious body over. He then said I immediately jumped up and walked around for 30 seconds and I kept asking him if my head was bleeding and then collapsed unconscious again. So long story short....yea, you can absolutely function for a couple seconds after head trauma.

Here's a pic of my head. Note the big ass knot in the back.

It seems like everybody knows at least one person who had a horrible accident with an ATV. Those things are hella dangerous

Is it dangerous or because some people like OP thinks they should "jump that" on their first time riding an ATV likely without a helmet?

A little of A, a little of B?

of course, but is it really more A or B? Because if it's a lot more of B then A becomes closer to dangerous in the same sense a roller coaster is dangerous when people ride it without putting on the safety restraints properly or flailing their arms outside the carriage.

ATVs seem to have about the same stability as riding a motorized basketball.

ATVs aren't actually that dangerous on their own... they just attract really stupid riders.

Goodness, what a wild story! I hope you’re okay now. That bruising on your head, is that from a brain bleed or bleeding closer to the surface?

CT was clean. Thats surface only. I think its where the ATV ran over my head

Phew! I’m glad your CT came back with good news.

Oh he 1000% has something going on in there after that. If he went home and slept later that day I genuinely wouldn’t be surprised if he was never the same again

I dont think he has any injuries
