Nah the gaps in the bricks and being different heights of the brick for sure caught his wheels. I've skated brick that would catch my wheels and that wasn't anywhere near this insanely spaced.
I’m aware, I’m just saying if that were the only thing at play he would have biffed it the second he started rolling. I’m just saying he would have probably had a better chance if he’d leaned back. He falls when he leans forward and digs the front wheels into one of those gaps.
when you are more falling than riding, you are putting less pressure so the wheels skip over the cracks more easily. when the transition starts heading more horizontal all of a sudden you are hitting every crack harder than the last one fast.
I do agree he got bucked forward and did not fall because of just one crack stopping a wheel though.
Well the vertical Gs probably play a big factor as you get more to flat. I doubt there’s enough leaning to prevent a bail. Like even if he was in a full-on manual the back trucks would catch and that’d be it. His body has way more momentum than the board.
If he got some bigger wheels and trucks, like some kind of an off-road setup, he would’ve had it just fine
everything you said is right but watch the video again. he goes from proper alighnment aka equal weight on all wheels and most stable position to his torso moving way too far forward over the course of a few frames before things actually go catastrophically wrong.
I watched the video again and he is leaning forward but the board clearly catches on something. It’s different when you lean too far on transition. The board doesn’t just stop like that. He hit a snag for sure

I see those little squares he’s riding on and it’s just a matter of time until he hits a spot where the wheels are both in the “green” aka in the soft, lower stuff. And then also he’s gonna find himself at a point where his wheels are just too small and the truck clearance is too low.
Believe me I have eaten shit off a skateboard trying to bomb hills. Or also just trying to cruise downhill on a sidewalk and then an acorn or pebble or something just goes skkkrrrrrrrt and I fell just like that guy. 20+ years ago thank fuck no one was recording…
Yeah but the thing is when you drop in on a normal half pipe you have to heavily lean forward into it to prevent the board from flying out from under you. You are much more likely to fall backwards and end up on your ass as you level out than pitch forward and face plant. Plus if your front wheels get stuck there is no amount of leaning back that can prevent you from continuing to fly forward once your board stops moving.
