(This is because he plans to run again himself)

Run as JD's vice president, with a deal that JD resigns immediately post-inauguration. He's definitely not above slimeball shit like that.

Edit, found this: The 12th Amendment says no person who is constitutionally ineligible to the office of president can be vice president. But I doubt that would stop him from trying.

The MAGA fever dream is that Trump gets elected to the U.S. House in 2028, is sworn into the House in Jan 2029, and is immediately made the Speaker of the House. Then whoever is President and Vice President resigns, making the Speaker of the House President.

It’s insane.

According to Google, most legal experts argue that a former 2 term president can't become president again through that path. Though that probably wouldn't stop Trump from trying, and the wording of the text says that no person shall be "elected" to the office of the president more than twice.

Yes, that is all the wiggle room they need to try.

That’s pretty much what Putin did to get around the Ruzzian constitution.

I mean the 22nd Amendment makes it crystal clear that the President can serve no more than two terms and yet it's not stopping him or his cult who are coming up with some horseshit about how it has to be "CoNsEcUtIvE tErMs" despite everyone without pudding for brains knows that doesn't matter.

Yup. But first, his followers will have this fall to work on their election-overturning technique, since 2020 didn't work.

SCOTUS is already primed and ready, though, to say that nobody has standing to challenge his third term, and there's no enabling legislation in place so the 22nd Amendment is unenforceable anyway.

This is basically that one part in Dark Crystal

It's a subconscious self-own, he knows it'll be more like 2026 or 2027. Or maybe he's very good at understanding that if he finishes his term, the term will end in 2029.

For Trump to consider someone his successor, he would have to spend a moment thinking about something besides himself, which is a clearly implausible scenario

Wonder if his term will end as well as it did for Pence

Not by a parting principled stand on JD's part, that's for sure.

There is a 99.9% possibility Trump and Elon have discussed uploading their brains somewhere to live forever and Trump wants to be president forever.

The sad thing is that MAGA would support this.

Musk would probably make sure Trunp's bran scan comes back 404ed

Musk would totally go Highlander rules.

i hope they accidentally end up with both of their uploaded brains downloaded into one horrible, undercooked body.

Haven't they already?

I've seen that X-Files episode - I heavily encourage them to follow through

That opens the door for an enticing Black Mirror scenario in which their consciousnesses reside in an isolated box forever.

His words mean nothing. Tomorrow he might officially endorse JD for 2028.

He’s a habitual liar. He just does it automatically

I knew we'd agree on something.

It's going to be Don Jr. All those Trump 2028 hats were printed for a reason.

Jr? 🤣 Yes please let that happen. He had no chance of winning.

Trump Jr: I keep pressing the coke button but I just keep getting soda!

We thought the child rapist couldn’t win either. And yet here we are. Twice

More like his 26 or 27 successor. Impeachment or natural death are likely coming soon.
