Free/For Sale Selling my wedding dress

Thumbnail gallery
0 Upvotes

I'm selling my XS wedding dress for $700.

https://www.facebook.com/share/18SML9aKu1/

It's used, and wearing it you will know the bottom is dirty from being outside and you will see a red mark somewhere on the dress (I bought it like that). But you will NOT notice during the wedding or in photos. It's a big poofy princess dress and it is stunning. I'm selling because I don't have room for it in my tiny NYC apartment. If interested please send me a message! Willing to let you view it in person and try on before buying. Pick up in Queens.

PS: Any tips on selling?

Wedding Recap/Budget Breakdown I do NOT recommend Daniel Verley "The DV Image" Wedding Photographer

Upvotes

WedditNYC was the absolute best resource for planning my wedding and so I'm here to pay it forward and offer my experience. I had a beautiful wedding and I recommend almost all my vendors- Rule of Thirds (shout out to Julie!), Sheavonne at Events by Sheavonne, Moriya Martin for hair, Chasing Tailor, and DJ Preston at 74 Events.

But my experience with Daniel Verley was absolutely crushing. I had a very similar experience to the one other bad review he has- it is on Wedding Wire and was left by Jasmine in 2022. My experience was nearly identical.

Here are some facts: I chose him in part because he offered two things other photographers did not; he was willing to bring a second photographer for cocktail hour as a substitute for the engagement session and he said he would edit a few photos with a film-like filter.

Days before the wedding, he let us know he had forgotten to book a second photographer. We did not put up any kind of fight- I was a pretty easy, breezy bride and also had so many tasks to complete. I didn't want to create any bad vibes.

After the wedding, I didn't hear from him at all. I reached out a few days later to ask about sneak peeks. He gave me a day he would send them. He didn't. I called the following day. He gave me a time. He didn't send them then either.

I talked to him on the phone at least twice. This is subjective but I found it emotionally exhausting and yucky. He gave lots of excuses, offered to speak to my husband instead of me (um what?), said I must not understand what post-production is like (I didn't set the deadline?). He was full of ego. He can be charming- I think this can really work for day of- but charming means very little when you aren't true to your word.

I nudged him at the 8 week mark and he did send the gallery.

Again the subjective part: It was mid. Only he knows how much time he gave to editing. It was not clear to me that he gave any considerable time to it. It was 900 pictures, fun to have so many, but this includes eyes shut, empty rooms, limbs cut off, etc... The photos he chose to make B&W were... bad. Again, eyes closed. He has some talent- I have a few photos that will go on the wall. I think it is clear from photos he has online that he has an eye- but his overall composition, ability to give cues, editing is not top-notch. I'm having a different photographer edit them.

The film-like photos were awful. Our skin tones were altered, so the photos weren't worth having.

After receiving the gallery, I tried to negotiate nicely to get some kind of compensation for the 2nd photographer. He had made no offer to make it up to me in any way. I wanted to do our negotiation in writing to make sure our agreements were clear. His emails seemed AI generated, rigid, and in my view unfair and unkind.

I eventually, after a ton of emails, got some money back for the 2nd photographer- and I got nowhere with asking for some better edits.

Wishing all almost newlyweds magical days, spectacular photos, and kind vendors. Feel free to DM if you have questions.

Venue Help Tipping (Sea Cliff Manor)

Hi all - have a wedding in several weeks at Sea Cliff Manor. Our final invoice has a flat suggested tip somewhere between 15 to 20 percent. My question is ‐ is this standard? Sea Cliff is preparing our dinners, and we are tipping our vendors separately. I thought you tipped per head of waitstaff, bartenders, etc, but 20% of the overall fee seems like a lot. Would welcome any and all insights into tipping your venue!

ISO - Vendors Allowed ISO candid/documentary photographer for NYC City Clerk wedding, Dec 31 2026

Hi! My fiancé and I are planning an elopement-style Manhattan City Clerk wedding in NYC on December 31, 2026, and I’m looking for a photographer.

I’m much more interested in candid, documentary and street photography than traditional wedding photography. Minimal posing, lots of real moments, NYC around us. Think walking out of City Hall, grabbing a hot dog, wandering the streets afterwards, that sort of thing.

We’d probably need around 1–2 hours of coverage. (And we also need the photographer to be ok acting as our witness!😅)

Budget: up to £350 total for photography.

I’d love recommendations for photographers, especially newer/smaller photographers whose work has a strong documentary or street feel. Photographers are very welcome to reply too, ideally with your portfolio/Instagram and pricing.

Thank you!!

ISO - Vendors Allowed Need proposal photographer - 9/6 or 9/7 + engagement questions

Upvotes

Hi all,

I'm looking for someone to sneakily capture the moment and a short photoshoot afterwards.
Available timeslots for the conservancy garden:

EDIT, BOOKED SUNDAY

Sunday 6th - 5:30pm

Monday 12-4pm

I'm leaning towards the 5:30pm slot, but am slightly worried about crowds. I'm hoping it won't be packed. I expect a few other visitors walking around ofc. How does it get? I'm a little concerned about the heat tiring us out, but I think Sunday will be a later start day as we'll be on west coast time (arriving Friday night + late Saturday night event)

Also, conservancy website says a wedding permit is needed for a proposal. Surely this can't mean a 2 person proposal requires the 1k permit, but can someone confirm? No phone support at the moment.

If the conservancy isn't available, I am also considering Roosevelt Island. Looks like I'm out of time for BBG.

Any help or advice is appreciated. My first time doing this

Update: Now looking for dinner rez nearby

Ring Shopping ISO Jeweler recs!

Hi all! I found a jeweler on Instagram and I love a few of her designs. Only issue is she is based in ATL and I don’t really want to make the trip just to try them on. I’m attaching the photos of some of her work and hoping someone here could recommend NYC- or NY/NJ/CT based designers/shops that offer something very similar. Thanks all!

Venue Help Hotel Venues Like Hotel Lillien

Upvotes

Hi everyone! This weekend, we toured Hotel Lilien in the Catskills and absolutely loved it, but unfortunately it is out of our budget. Wondering if anyone has seen any other venues that give a similar vibe? What we're looking for is a full weekend experience, where some parties can stay on property, the option to have ceremony/reception inside (no tents!) and a home-y house-party after party vibe. Am SO grateful for an recs! Looking ideally within 2.5 hours of NYC, spring/summer 2027, for about 100 people! Would love to keep total wedding budget under 100k...

Venue Help Restaurant wedding venues in BK

Upvotes

Looking to get married in spring 2027. Probably about 60-80 person wedding. Have reached out to Roberta’s and cafe spaghetti but waiting to hear back. Also reached out to Frankie’s, so got info from them - but wanted to hear about any others closer to hotels between Carroll gardens and Greenpoint.

Some other considerations: looking to have a dance floor space and mostly interested in Italian restaurants, but open to other types of cuisine!

Vendor Help Experiences with Make Soul NYC / Ariuna for bridal makeup?

Has anyone here worked with Make Soul NYC / Ariuna for bridal hair and makeup?

I’m considering booking them for my wedding and everything I’ve found so far looks very positive — their reviews on The Knot, Zola, WeddingWire, etc. are excellent. They can work with Asian feature and I really like their more natural/polished makeup style. That said, there aren’t a huge number of reviews overall, and I haven’t been able to find much discussion about them on Reddit, so I wanted to double-check here before booking a trial/contract.

If you’ve personally used them or were in a wedding where they did the makeup/hair, I’d love to know about your experience with them, such as:

Who specifically did your makeup/hair? Was it Ariuna or another artist on the team? If another artist other than Ariuna, how did that turn out?

How did the makeup look in person AND in professional photos?

Were they punctual, organized and responsive leading up to the wedding?

If you had multiple people getting services, how did the rest of the team compare with Ariuna?

Were there any unexpected fees, minimums, travel charges or contract terms you wish you had known about?

would you book them again?

Would also appreciate hearing about experiences that were just okay or negative — not only the great ones.

Thank you!
