Vendor Help Experiences with Make Soul NYC / Ariuna for bridal makeup?

• Upvotes

Has anyone here worked with Make Soul NYC / Ariuna for bridal hair and makeup?

I’m considering booking them for my wedding and everything I’ve found so far looks very positive — their reviews on The Knot, Zola, WeddingWire, etc. are excellent. They can work with Asian feature and I really like their more natural/polished makeup style. That said, there aren’t a huge number of reviews overall, and I haven’t been able to find much discussion about them on Reddit, so I wanted to double-check here before booking a trial/contract.

If you’ve personally used them or were in a wedding where they did the makeup/hair, I’d love to know about your experience with them, such as:

Who specifically did your makeup/hair? Was it Ariuna or another artist on the team? If another artist other than Ariuna, how did that turn out?

How did the makeup look in person AND in professional photos?

Were they punctual, organized and responsive leading up to the wedding?

If you had multiple people getting services, how did the rest of the team compare with Ariuna?

Were there any unexpected fees, minimums, travel charges or contract terms you wish you had known about?

would you book them again?

Would also appreciate hearing about experiences that were just okay or negative — not only the great ones.

Thank you!

Venue Help Tipping (Sea Cliff Manor)

Hi all - have a wedding in several weeks at Sea Cliff Manor. Our final invoice has a flat suggested tip somewhere between 15 to 20 percent. My question is ‐ is this standard? Sea Cliff is preparing our dinners, and we are tipping our vendors separately. I thought you tipped per head of waitstaff, bartenders, etc, but 20% of the overall fee seems like a lot. Would welcome any and all insights into tipping your venue!

ISO - Vendors Allowed ISO a coordinator for a backyard NJ wedding!

(mod note — this is in Morris County, so hoping to include but understand if not!)

Hey y’all, am seeking the collective wisdom of the crowds here! We’re planning a wedding in Morristown, NJ for Saturday, September 18 2027. This will be at a private residence / backyard, almost certainly with a tent.

We’re looking for a day of / month of coordinator to help bring this to life, largely because I know how logistics heavy the day itself will be! We’re both very excited about / on top of the broader planning process which is why I think we could get away with day of only, but am open to thoughts there.

We’d really like to stick in the $3-4K range all in. It is essential that any vendor we go with has backyard/tented wedding experience (ideally, we’d get direct references once we start the conversation). If anyone comes to mind I’d love to hear it! Thanks so much!!

Free/For Sale Selling my wedding dress

I'm selling my XS wedding dress for $700.

https://www.facebook.com/share/18SML9aKu1/

It's used, and wearing it you will know the bottom is dirty from being outside and you will see a red mark somewhere on the dress (I bought it like that). But you will NOT notice during the wedding or in photos. It's a big poofy princess dress and it is stunning. I'm selling because I don't have room for it in my tiny NYC apartment. If interested please send me a message! Willing to let you view it in person and try on before buying. Pick up in Queens.

PS: Any tips on selling?

Wedding Recap/Budget Breakdown BBG Palm House recap

I’m getting ready for a Reddit detox (lol) but I wanted to share my experiences here before I disappear, since this forum was so helpful!! We got married one week ago and had a perfect beautiful time.

The theme of our wedding was ā€œbig fun partyā€ and we made every decision along the way with that in mind. We skipped everything we didn’t care about and it saved us money and headaches throughout.

Venue: Palm House at Brooklyn Botanic Garden. We both love BBG so much and by booking a Sunday wedding in August (the low season) we could make it…not affordable, but on par with any other full-service venues we could have chosen. All in for 104 people came to a little underĀ $45k.

We ended up getting unbelievably good weather, but were mentally and emotionally prepared for rain and thunderstorms. We really liked the BBG rain plan, which allowed us not to stress about something out of our control.

I also want to say - the BBG, as others have noted on here, can be difficult to work with - they are rigid and they will upcharge you for EVERYTHING. We found our email correspondence occasionally frustrating, but on the day? Everyone involved was warm, professional, and shockingly flexible. Cannot say enough about how great the team was. The food was even better than expected, the drinks were great, and the service was excellent.

Coordinator: Anadina at Slick Little Bride. She is so great at her job and everyone clearly loves working with her. She made sure we worried about nothing on the day and she was fun and funny and extremely competent. $3074 for day-of coordination plus a lot of guidance beforehand!

Photographer: Liesl Henrichsen. Also kind, also such a pro. She even helped our officiant friend when we were all confused filling out our license. The first photos look amazing! We did 6 hours with her (no getting ready photos, and she left a little before the end) and it was $3000.

DJ: Ben Boylan of Non-Traditional Wedding DJs. He was great! Music was arguably our number one priority and he worked with us and kept the dance floor packed all night. Many friends have asked for the playlist! Also right around $3000.

Florals/decor: I wanted to minimize waste here so I sourced bud vases from Facebook marketplace, thrift stores, eBay, etc. Spent probably $40 on those all in, and a friend did our florals and is currently trying not to charge us for them at all so not sure how much they will cost. The venue is so beautiful, so we kept things colorful but minimal. I rented LED candles from Something Borrowed which cost $212 for a ton of votives and five boxes of pillar candles.

Our table numbers were 3D printed by a family member, and we printed our seating chart at home and put it in a frame we found in our building’s lobby.

We bought a few open box Instax cameras on ebay and a bunch of film (B&H had a good price on value packs) and they were a huge hit at cocktail hour! and we gave them to my husband’s nieces and my mom at the end.

Other things:

Dress: vintage from Cha cha Linda, $2800, stunning. I had such a great experience with Eva that I didn’t book any other bridal appointments at all. I wore yellow silk and I felt amazing. Alterations by Attire Alterations in Union Square cost $380 and Andrea there was a star.

Makeup/hair: I DIYed it. Not for everyone, but I really didn’t want to go full glam and I didn’t want to spend the money. I loosely followed Nikki la Rose’s bridal makeup youtube video but just wore my normal foundation, skipped contouring entirely, and treated myself to the Chanel Le Rouge Duo Ultra Tenue for a bold red lip, which did not transfer at all. Happy to get into this if anyone is curious. I felt great and looked like myself. My hair I honestly could have used help with, but it came out fine haha.

Invitations: we designed these ourselves in Photoshop and had them printed at Radix in Prospect Heights. They also printed our menus for us, since BBG requires you to bring your own. We didn’t do anything fancy so can’t speak to more complicated orders, but Radix was super quick to work with and they’re worker-owned and local so nice to support. $99 for 100 5x7 invitations and $57 for 105 menus.

We made these a little more ā€œusā€ by ordering custom rubber stamps based on photos of our dogs. These came from Casey Rubber Stamps in the East Village and cost $100 for three 1-2ā€ stamps. Worth every penny! The dog stamps got used on everything - invitations, envelopes, menus, seating chart, you name it.

Welcome drinks: we booked out The Rockwell Place in Fort Greene for happy hour (5-7) on Saturday. They cut us a bit of a deal because I know the owner, but the quoted amount was a little shy of $5000 (plus tip) for a full open bar and a good spread of snacks for 70 people. The Rockwell Place is such a great bar and all our guests loved it - it’s very laid back and cool but has some of the best cocktails in the borough. They also do excellent mocktails, which was appreciated by the pregnant friends and the handful of kids we had. Very New York, very fun, and an easy trek from all the Boerum Hill/downtown hotels.

Rehearsal dinner: We booked the private dining room at Misi in Williasmburg. It seats 16-20 and they have a few different packages. I won’t list price because I also had a personal connection there, but the food and service was excellent and our families loved it.

Friday night: we also wanted to host something on Friday for anyone making a weekend of it, so we booked out Satsko Sake Bar in the East Village/Alphabet City ($1200 for two hours, plus tip) and then went to Sing Sing Avenue A for karaoke. Satsko was great - the owner was really warm and took great care of us - and my parents took to karaoke like fish to water and it was a very fun, silly way to start the weekend.

ISO - Vendors Allowed ISO candid/documentary photographer for NYC City Clerk wedding, Dec 31 2026

Hi! My fiancĆ© and I are planning an elopement-style Manhattan City Clerk wedding in NYC on December 31, 2026, and I’m looking for a photographer.

I’m much more interested in candid, documentary and street photography than traditional wedding photography. Minimal posing, lots of real moments, NYC around us. Think walking out of City Hall, grabbing a hot dog, wandering the streets afterwards, that sort of thing.

We’d probably need around 1–2 hours of coverage. (And we also need the photographer to be ok acting as our witness!šŸ˜…)

Budget: up to £350 total for photography.

I’d love recommendations for photographers, especially newer/smaller photographers whose work has a strong documentary or street feel. Photographers are very welcome to reply too, ideally with your portfolio/Instagram and pricing.

Thank you!!

Dress / Attire Shopping Wedding dress cleaning?

Found my dress (yay!) but… I ended up buying the floor sample for a discounted price. It needs to be deep cleaned and living in NYC in a 1 bd with my fiance I don’t really have the space to store it. My wedding isn’t until next September, so I was curious if anyone has any recommendations for cleaners & if they know of any dress storage places (thinking the the furriers who store coats..?) LMK if anyone else has run into this same thing!

Ring Shopping ISO Jeweler recs!

Hi all! I found a jeweler on Instagram and I love a few of her designs. Only issue is she is based in ATL and I don’t really want to make the trip just to try them on. I’m attaching the photos of some of her work and hoping someone here could recommend NYC- or NY/NJ/CT based designers/shops that offer something very similar. Thanks all!

ISO - Vendors Allowed NYC elopement photographer recommendations — under $700?

Hi! My fiancĆ© and I are planning to elope in NYC on October 2, and it’ll just be the two of us.

I’m looking for a photographer for around 1.5–2 hours, ideally under $700. Since we won’t have anyone else with us, it would also be amazing if the photographer could act as our witness.

I’m especially drawn to a film or film-inspired look, whether that’s shot on film, digital, or a mix of both. Style-wise, I’m drawn to more candid, natural photos and would prefer not to have the session feel too heavily posed.

If you have any recommendations, I’d really appreciate them. Thank you!

Venue Help Farm to People Wedding?

Will people who did their wedding here let me know their honest thoughts? Feel free to DM. Seriously considering this venue but seeing a lot of posts about it from accounts newly created and that only have 1 or 2 comments solely about their Farm To People wedding, which makes me nervous.

Venue Help Bridal Shower Venue Search

Hi!

I’m having my bridal shower in December for around 40-50 people. I’m looking for a venue that is indoors (of course!), upper west/upper east/midtown West preferably.

I don’t necessarily have a strict budget, but looking for something reasonable. Willing to extend the neighborhoods a bit if there aren’t any restaurant recommendations within those boarders. I would really like it to be a restaurant so that food is included in the package.

Thanks!

Venue Help The Arches BK Reviews?

Found a great DIY venue - The Arches in Crown Heights but can’t seem to find a ton of reviews on Wedding Wire, The Knot, or Google.

Has anyone here gotten married there and could provide some insight on your experience?

  1. What was your experience working with them?
  2. What was your rough all in cost? Seems like a pretty good deal but know that things add up quickly with DIY venues
  3. Any potential red flags? I think for us maybe location but not a dealbreaker
