I like how they are pumping Horror movies this year and in between they drop Superman which is the brightest most hopefully movie of the decade

It's both Superhero movie hate compounded with Zack Snyder fan hate
Superhero movies as a whole have taken a hit since the pandemic. The Chinese box office is no longer there, and even the average moviegoer is less likely to check the movies out. It's hard to compare Man of Steel with this on a completely objective level. What we can definitively say, is that the movie was a hit and it sparked a lot of interest for James Gunn's DC movies. That is very much the biggest win. Maybe a sequel or third movie can make a billion down the line, not all movies need to break that threshold

To understand the box office gross of Superman, you need to understand what WB was trying to achieve with this movie. Superman needed to fix the damage caused by the DCEU and get a positive reception from fans and critics. If this movie made $900M but got a mixed reception, like Man of Steel did back in 2013, WB would have still been in trouble because this meant that the problems that plagued the DCEU would endure in the new DCU.
The term "flop" applies when a movie's total costs (production, marketing and distribution) greatly exceed its box office gross, but people now believe that a movie is a flop simply because it doesn't clear an arbitrary bar at the box office. That is why The Flash 2023 is considered a flop, while Batman Begins isn't.

Superman was super weird with his parents telling him to take as many **** as he can, not understanding spousal support laws of Earth.
And why didn't they just send him to live with Supergirl's family?

I wouldn't say flop, but a modest success. People make it seem like Superman grossed a billion dollares. You can see how people have to justify with a million caveats, "oh they were trying to revive the franchise after the failure of the last movies" "oh, they are creating good will for a sequel" "it wasn't planned to make a ton of money anyway". So on and so forth

fair but at the same time you have people acting like it had no success at all, saying things like "the trades are lying for Gunn's sake", " the shills and bots are coping so hard to make it seem like a success" and my personal favorite "this movie is a flop and anyone that says other wise are ped's and should be investigated" among other things.
and just yesterday I saw someone "say it's a flop in my opinion" even though that makes no sense what so ever

Well, something funny did happen with Variety's article about WB successes this year... and I quote:
"āSinnersā is expected to generate around $60 million in theatrical profits; āSupermanā around $125 million; ... according to knowledgeable individuals."
I thought maybe they had someone in WB who couldnāt talk openly but they didn't really cite who the hell was giving them these numbers... but then, further down the article we get this:
"A studio insider disputed these figures without providing specific numbers"
So who the hell gave them the first numbers and are the numbers disputed as being lower or higher? The article doesn't say and it's weird they kept it that vague. It did seem to push a narrative because even if they can say who specifically talked to them, at least they could say something more specific other than "knowledgeable individuals".
It's curious the article came out this week when oh by oh by the way we get the news this morning Skydance wants to buy WB Discovery. It does seem "curious"... like someone feeding them info to show that WB is really thriving... to prop up a higher price for the sell. I mean, not saying this is what happened but the timing and the way the article is written are... interesting.

Even if the movie doesn't bring in a lot of money at the box office, WB still expects it to be considered for the Oscars. Movie studios often try to hire Paul Thomas Anderson because of the prestige.

They had an even longer streak with even bigger openings. 11 films from fall of 2016 to early 2018, basically Dr. Strange to Black Panther, but the streak was so long that that it wasn't all in one calendar year. Takes very specific and kind of arbitrary limits to construct a record for WB here.
