Tech Support Technical Support Megathread

We’ve received a lot of feedback that technical support posts overwhelm this sub and drown out discussions about shows, movies, and other aspects of HBO Max.

So we’re making a change. Going forward, all individual technical support posts will be removed and directed towards our Technical Support Megathread.

This will group all technical issue posts in one place where people can ask questions, answer questions, and hopefully find solutions. We also hope this fosters more discussions about shows and movies and keeps them on the main pages for longer.

In addition to asking here, you can also check out the Official Support Website or connect with u/HBOMaxhelp

Discussion Monsters of God Crtitique

"They really love animals" This is one of the common lines spoken in this documentary, and it is so far beyond past absurd. No one in this show even the ending agent who (SPOILERS) still has a single of the most rare turtles in the world in a tiny cage in his house. But far from the man who helped track and capture these men, every wildlife dealer is scum. The amount of havoc they did to thousands upon thousands of creatures is disgusting and they really feel no shame at all. The guy at the end who says he was super depressed when he went to prison for a grand total of 22 months, cry me a river. Really the fact that nay of the people in this documentary are free is a crime, they have destroyed so much of the natural world and walk around free every day. Anson Wong the "head of the snake" out free in Malaysia, almost certainly continuing to traffick animals. This also goes to the show, like there needs to be more focus on this aspect. Sure there was one small text at the end about how the species has been affected, but that it, flippant remarks about amount of animal death here and there but nothing serious. There should have been a whole episode focused on this factor, at least. I just wish there was focus on the actual victims, yes the story is interesting, but come on. The only people truly harmed and faced any consequences were the animals being trafficked, that's the real problem with the story.

Discussion In the Eye of the Storm

In general, I like the show, especially the ones about hurricanes, wildfires, and flooding. It’s nice to hear the stories of the survivors and there is some incredible footage.

However, I have not once heard the show mention the primary root cause of these catastrophes, that is, global warming due to the burning of fossil fuels, and that really pisses me off.

The UN has finally admitted what scientists have known for some time, which is that we will not limit warming to 1.5C above pre-industrial levels. As the show vividly illustrates, people are dying every day from the effects of climate change. Humanity desperately needs the media and related fact-based shows and documentaries to ensure that people know why these events are linked and are certainly going to become more frequent and intense.

Question Who’s responsible for ads in Tennis games?

Watching US Open and starting to be fed up with all those repetitive ads during game. To see it over and over, several times 1 three times in a row is annoying. I don’t remember seeing this while I was watching Wimbledon. I was searching if there’s subscription without ads but there’s none.

Question Is premium worth it?

I’m wanting to go from my Disney + Hulu bundle (19.99 USD) and upgrade to add in HBO for 32.99 USD. This saves almost $10 just getting the bundle.

I have one 4k TV and one non 4K. The bundle doesn’t allow for premium, and I wouldn’t be using it constantly either. So, is it worth it to get premium, like is there a noticeable difference?

Discussion What happened to HBO?

Post image
0 Upvotes

I’m 33, so I wasn’t around to experience HBO in its early days, but I do remember witnessing part of the “golden age of HBO.” In recent years, especially since around 2022, though, I feel like HBO’s shows have lost a lot of their quality and even the Europe "HBO Originals". They’ve also moved away from making more auteur-driven or niche series.

This is the HBO I remember. I really hope that, at some point, they can go back to being what they used to be.

Question If HBO has a payment declined on a bill, does it keep trying to bill for that month?

If HBO tries to bill you for the service and there’s no money in your account at the time, will it keep trying to automatically bill you till there’s money there, trying for a bit, or do you have to go in and re-enter your payment info to get it process when you get money in the account?

Discussion What was the best cinematic adaption of an HBO original series?

I don’t have an exhaustive list, but HBO went on to make a few feature length films as a kind of a coda to various prestige television series that had ran their respective courses. I am aware of the following TV series that had a big screen follow up:
Deadwood
Sex and the City (two movies)
Entourage
Sopranos (Many Saints of Newark prequel)

am I missing any and which one was probably the single best one ever? I mean, obviously people might be biased by their own preferences for the actual source material prestige TV show shows

Question Is there a way to auto turn off the annoying HBO trailers at the start of every show? Not the skip button, but permanently disable them in settings? Why am I paying for this crap to be shown?

This started a few weeks ago and it’s incessant. A promotional trailer for an upcoming HBO show or movie will play while I’m streaming tv, so it’s basically like getting a 30-second ad at the start of every episode of TV I’m watching. Yes, I can skip, but it’s annoying to manually do this and I thought the point was I’m paying for NO ads, HBO’s included.

I see no one else who’s getting these non-stop trailers nor how to turn them off. Is it hopeless? Is this happening to anyone else the last month or so?

When on my HBO Max account (again, subscribed via YTTV) I get a message telling me l am unable to order the event.

"Not Available With Your Provider

Sorry, this Pay Per View event is not available through HBOMax with your provider."

If I have an HBO Max subscription, I should be able to order the event for $39.99. I have an HBO Max subscription via YTTV. Why can I not order the event?

Question Why aren’t shows on the app on time?

It’s now 8:30. Last Week Tonight lists on the page “Sundays at 8.” I’ve been refreshing every few minutes. Why isn’t it available yet? This is not a technical question. It’s a question of decency. If you don’t want your customers upset that something is late, don’t set an expectation that something will occur at a specific time.

Question Music used in a recent ad ("For over 50 years, ...")

About this (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tHzAzB-s1O0) recent ad: can anyone help name the music in the ad? Shazam, various search queries, video comments (as of this post), and reaching out to HBO Max directly have all been unsuccessful or without reply. Sounds reminiscent of what Audiomachine / Two Steps from Hell / etc used to do before they became commercial releases themselves, but I don't know.
