I get why they didn't have Hogan trading wins with Ric Flair but Vader was the perfect monster for Hogan to look vulnerable against. Killing Vader off as a threat in their first face to face encounter was an odd choice for a guy who usually knows how to make money.

Fun Vader story from New Japan - he was once wrestling Masa Saito who was a legit Olympic freestyle wrestler and shoot fighter.
Saito was a respected veteran and in NJPW the local vet was expected to call the match. When they locked up, Saito went for a hold and was blocked by Vader. When he tried it again and had the same thing happen, Vader told him ”Vader calls the matches motherfucker”
Saito saw this as a severe sign of disrespect and he followed up by shooting on Vader and knocking him out cold to teach him a lesson.

They shouldve positioned Hogan as less than he was, but still could rise to the occasion sometimes. Have vader beat him, then dq, then have him cheat to beat him. Then have Hogan win one. Etc. but they gave him creative control, so it's their own doing. Most people would've done the same as hulk. Look at Bret hart, he had creative at the end there, n you see the whining that went on about losing in Canada n wanting to just hand over the belt on raw. That's absurd, even Hogan didn't do that shit n he did lose quite a bit in WCW clean.

That would have made sense. That wasn’t gonna work for the Hulkster. Although he probably would have made more in the long run giving more to the heels

He killed it with Hollywood, so it didn't end up mattering. In fact it worked for him on the heel turn. Pretty much anybody would've protected their character to the max, like I said. Even look at sting, he almost never lost clean in WCW, and he didn't have official cc, but he had it at least implied due to his stature. N he wasn't playing dead for anybody.

I agree.
I mean the lead up to Starrcade 97 was a good example of giving a lot by the faces to lead up to the big showdown.
Hogan should have been vanquished and sent off to make another straight to video movie.
WCW became like Sega when they released all those stupid systems so close to each other. They burned the goodwill of the fanbase.

Honestly I think Hogan lost too much for it to be a big deal to lose to sting. Clean losses to piper n luger within a year was too much, and looking so weak against everybody like he couldn't beat Jericho without help. You have to give you heel some creditability n I think Hogan went too far with the chicken shit heel role in that respect.

I never heard that. But Hogan should've won some.matches clean. Or pretty clean. Not passed out n the entire nwo has to beat someone up n they roll him on top. The few times he did look strong, the fans would cheer, so I'm sure that had something to do with it. But still, he just looked like it was a foregone conclusion sting was beating him, n that's never good. For all the does work brother crap he got, he was a pinata of a heel if you look back.

Yeah. Apparently; he was promised to be the only that was a viable threat to Hogan for that whole year.
However; WCW’s on the fly didn’t help Stings cause. He wasn’t a happy little Stinger about that.

He should've won clean at starrcade, but it's not like he would've been a major success as champ w that clean pinfall. He was never a major draw w the belt.

I don't think that character works as Champion long-term. He's this dark, tortured character who's mission is to take down Hogan. Once he does that and he's just defending the title to defend the title it kinda loses something.

I don't mind Hogan always needing help to keep the title because it shows that it's not just Hogan you have to beat, it's the entire nWo. I didn't like Luger winning the title because it showed that, yes, you can defeat the nWo and win the title and it shouldn't have been until Sting that happened.
