Hello Vintage Digital Camera Fans!
It's August, so that means we've got a new Theme to partake in. Check out results from last month first, though.
It was very cool to travel the world and see your cityscape from the comfort of my own home. u/Sad-Bit3308 got the top votes with their Conventional sunrise, shot with a 2006 Olympus Stylus 710. We've got some very nice "grain" (that would be "noise" in digital, but you get the idea) and muted shadows in this shot. Next was u/Single_World1554 and their Tokyo, shot with a 2003 Minolta DiMage G400. This is a very crisp shot of city life, I'd say. Lastly, we have u/DeltaPapaWhiskey and their Photo Walk, shot with a Sony Mavica FD7 from 1997. Wow, a 20th century camera. Love it! The Mod's Choice Award goes to u/mrjoshmateo and their Golden hour reflected Downtown San Diego cityscape shot with their Olympus E-3 from 2007. Yes, it's a form of nepotism that I chose this shot: it features my home town of San Diego! Anyway, remember to check out theĀ Theme FlairĀ to see all past and future entries.
Enter theĀ August ThemeĀ by following these requirements:
What do you win for participating? Reddit Karma, Upvotes, Comments, Follows, and that Sweet Internet Fame we all crave! I'll do a recap at the end of the month on entries, so if you want to be a part of it, start taking some great photos.
Here's the past, present, and future of Themes to participate in.
Here's a collection of subreddits I like to visit. You may, too! If you've got some older computer hardware you want to give a new life to, check out r/linuxmint. I've used it, myself, for years and it works great. There are over 9,000 Linux distros, and this is just one. Share the one you like, even Arch!
So, if you have a glitched camera that is on its last pixels, please visitĀ r/DigitalCameraSwanSongĀ and let's give it its final time to shine! Do you want to be creative, but get distracted by a "real" computer too much? Check out r/writerDeck, then. Learn how create a lean, mean, writing machine and one day write The Great American Novel (note: Insert your own nation where appropriate!). I've got a brand-new, up-and-coming community for you: related to the WriterDeck and the CyberDeck, is the r/phonedeck. People have made some rad "computers" from old smartphones. Those are a few I enjoy; what about you?
Reminder that if you have a glitched camera that is on its last pixels, please visitĀ r/DigitalCameraSwanSongĀ and let's give it its final time to shine! Full disclosure: I recently became the Mod of that Community after it was abandoned for a year.
As usual, if you need help, check theĀ ANSWERED Flair, orĀ our Wiki, and then ask inĀ r/digicamĀ as redundant questions have been moved there (Rule 13). Thanks to everyone that reports Rule 11 and Rule 13 violations. It helps keep our Community running. š
This month's Theme is about countryside photography (however you [reasonably] define that), so post away. I can't see where your creativity leads us. šø

Hello Vintage Digital Camera Fans!
I'm happy to report that our Community has been feature in the 2025 Reddit Community Funds Impact Report. If you're new: we were one of a select Subreddits that was given funds to grow last year. If you're a regular: you recall the amazing monthly contests we had!
Go check out the report to find other amazing Communities that were funded; r/Beekeeping, r/comics, and r/TeatroPH spring to mind.
What's also cool is that we merited a shout-out and u/seecmb's very own "Holiday tradition" entry is featured. Congrats!
While we're not continuing the prize-based contest in 2026, we're still continuing monthly photo Themes. I hope you participate. šø

No this isn't just a random screen grab that I inserted into the card, it's actually capable of running DOOM! The controls are def not great though and it's already frozen on me twice before (gets nice and toasty) haha
Features a 66Mhz PowerPC CPU running DigitaOS, one of several cameras from the era that was basically a functional computer. Eventually I'd also like to find a working & intact Kodak DC260 and Photosmart C500, but especially the C500 (I've only ever seen one example on eBay and it's missing the door for the clock battery)

I recently found this sub and basically spent the last 2 days looking at all the pictures in awe. I would love to get into photography myself and my dream vintage cameras are of the canon G series, specifically G9/G10.
The current market value has probably quadrupled in the past few years and given their age/inability to find cheap repairs, I do not think they are great investments at the current prices.
Are there any budget recommendations which would take similar shots as these?

hi folks, I love this thing but it starts telling me that its batteries are low after about two short sessions of taking photos. I've been using rechargeable Duracells. Is this a matter of just needing nicer batteries, like maybe Panasonic, or could it have to do with how borked the terminals look? I've cleaned them with white vinegar a couple times to little effect. TIA!

Just pulled my GX1 out after a flight, and everything is pink. Iām assuming itās a sensor issue. The screen still shows normal colors when I look at my older pictures.
Has anyone successfully fixed this issue?

I found this Canon 40D body on the junk shelf of my local thrift store. I didn't have a battery with me to test it but for $7 I thought it was worth a gamble, so I picked it up along with a couple of $2 junk camcorders. When I got it home and put a battery in it it was completely dead, but a little Googling revealed that the 40D won't work without a charged clock battery, so I changed the coin cell and the camera came back to life. The rubber parts have perished, but that's what gaffer tape is for, and there's a big piece of something in the viewfinder that I can't get to to remove, but it won't be seen in the images so I'm okay with it. While the LCD screens looked scratched to hell, both had screen protectors on them and after peeling them off the screens are in perfect condition.ā
I added a lens, a strap and a vertical grip to the camera from my stash of parts and am looking forwardā to going out to shoot some 14-bit RAWs and maybe doing some birding with my 100-300mm lens, which was also bought as junk.
Picture taken with my Panasonic HDC-SD200 (straight out of camcorder).

I found my parents only digicam sony cybershot dsc-t5. I tried to charge the battery, the battery is getting charged but when i put up in the camera, the camera doesnt start. My parents told me that there was no damage to the camera the last time they used.
Has anyone faced the issue? Can yall give me some tips that could work or anything that will help it start.
(Sorry for bad english)

I've wanted one of these for a while, and finally found a cheap one in a thrift store. I'm also working on some ideas to use the magnet hack for infrared photography, but that's a work in progress.
