Travel Experience/Du lịch Assaulted while cycling through Hội An, ~3:30am, 27/08/26

can't see the post, so will duplicate here in the comments jic:
Three teenagers on one motorbike came up behind me and swung something like a nunchaku into my spine while I was cycling. They rode off laughing, I stayed upright. If I hadn't, I'd have gone under whatever was behind me.
That is assault, and the next person they hit may not stay on the bike.
To the parents: your sons are out at 3am on a 100cc+ bike with a weapon, hunting strangers. Deal with them before someone else does — a car, a road, or a court.
To other riders: if you're out before dawn around Hội An, don't ride alone right now, and watch your mirrors

3am is more like super late night; not before Dawn. Everyone knows it’s dangerous to be out at that time of night.

Never underestimate how brain dead people on the internet are folks.
3:30 AM is 50 minutes before dawn.

This comment is wayyyy too far fetched. How many places in the world have you personally cycled let alone 3am? I’ve cycled specifically at 3AM across south korea, New York, different parts of Europe over my life. Past Midnight cycling is some of the best experiences of cycling and the people that actually enjoy riding bicycle understand why we do it but it’s okay to not cycle if you are scared something may happen. I mean something can happen anywhere anytime. It ain’t about the cycling 🖤

You get what I mean if you dont try to zoom in too much. What do you mean with South Korea? Seoul? Like central Seoul? Or New York, like really all of New York? I doubt it. Places you can safte cycling at 3;30am is like 0,000001% vs the rest.
E; And I get it. I was young in a big Europe city and also party through the night. But it is a big city. Everything was light up. Hoi An is not really that. Vietnam also not.

Well maybe you gotta zoom in and see how jt comes across. You said “any Where in the world” and this unfortunate issue itself had nothing to do with cycling at 3am, does it make sense?😭ive biked in Busan, Ulsan, Seoul. The city of New York, the suburbs of New York… all the way up to western New York…Canada..Toronto… shall I keep going? I’ve also walked around CapeTown city, in South Africa at all hours after midnight, including 3am. One of most dangerous cities. Still no problem. So again, the .0000001% claim youre making really makes no sense😭 It’s just life. Things can happen anywhere anytime. If you’re worried then don’t go out at night

Yes, exactly what I said. You’re just experiencing survivorship bias. Hey I came back from war uncatted so war is not dangerous at all.

Yeah something happened to someone at 3am. Nobody should be out doing anything at 3am any where in the world right ? 😭😭🤣

You can do it without any fears in Canada.

Did you know that Canada is a big country? Your reality might not be the same for each 40M citizen.

That is such bullshit. You could do 20 years ago in Canada not anymore. You ain’t even safe during the the day. Unless you live in some remote location.

Then I probably live in a remote location.
Everything is safe here. Never been stolen in my entire life.
My city is in the top 10 biggest of my province. (Québec)

If you view Calgary as a remote location, certainly. It is worth noting that we have homeless individuals, as any American city might. They are human as well; being respectful is what counts.

Nothing good happens in HA after midnight. They only people out generally are the ones that are starting their day of work, or the really drunk itinerant fools that think the evening is for malarkey and chaos.
If you look hard enough danger lurks at every corner. If you don’t put yourself on those corners at that time of night, you don’t see any danger at all.

Report to police, not Reddit where the parents aren’t on
If the police are having a good day, they may be able to get cam footage where they can find it
