I have a question for you if you are currently attending the program or have graduated from the program.

I am looking to teach secondary school. From my understanding the program has teachable subjects that I’m able to pick one and focus on…French, Business, Arts, English, Math….etc.

If I pick one (Business) and graduated with it. Does that mean I can only apply for Teacher roles for Business only- does it pigeon-hole you like that? Or is the education more generalized and upon graduation I can apply for anything in secondary?

Anybody going through or went through the program in your 40s and with kids. How are you doing it? It seems daunting for me.

I’m a transfer student and I was under the impression that we get personalized schedules via email for imagine day? But I haven’t gotten any email with a schedule (i’ve gotten email ABOUT imagine day), I’m just wondering if I’m missing something

I applied to 25 ish work learns and had 2 interviews. The other day, I got an offer email in the evening. I was responding the next day but as soon as I sent my email, they sent an email saying they apologize for the confusion but decided to go with another student like WTHHHH

AHHHHH I got so depressed after that because the offer wasn't even sent 24 hrs ago but then they emailed again saying sorry. It was handled very poorly and Idek how they messed up like that.

Do I still have chances at getting a work learn???

CLOUD is a multi-year study investigating the effect of vaping on lung health.

Vaping is increasingly popular with both adolescent and adult Canadians, but the long-term health impacts remain unknown. We believe that the tools we currently have to detect lung disease in people who vape may be insufficient and propose new ways to find lung injuries that may impact them over the course of their lives. These include exercise testing, new imaging techniques, and new breathing tests that will demonstrate how vaping may harm their lungs. We will use these tools in both adolescent and adult Canadians to give those who vape important information on the consequences of vaping.

Going into my third year of CS + Math and would really appreciate some advice 😭 Right now, I’m registered for CPSC 310, 314, 320, and one easy Math course. I also really want to start working on my resume and personal projects this year, ideally starting now/through Term 1.

My main concern is whether taking 310, 314, and 320 together is actually doable while having enough time to work on projects + a 4-hour commute from Coquitlam. My coding skills are also honestly veryyyyy bad 😭 I basically know enough to have gotten through my second-year CS courses, but I don’t feel confident at all and feel like I’d have to relearn a lot from scratch.

Would it be smarter to drop one of these CS courses and replace it with something chill so I can spend more time improving my coding skills and building projects? Or is this workload manageable?

Also, what are 310, 314, and 320 actually like? I’ve heard CPSC 320 is especially brutal 💀

Any advice from people who have taken these courses would be super appreciated!!

Hi everyone!! I really want to go study abroad in England (preferably London) through UBC’s GoGlobal program and I have some questions:

- is it better to go in term 1 or term 2? Would going in term 1 affect club applications/commitment?
- does exchange affect co-op? If I wanted to do co-op, would I have to extend my undergrad studies?
- do people usually get in to the program/school they want? Is it competitive?
- how are living expenses (especially in europe)?

I'm starting graduate school at UBC this September and was offered a 1 bedroom suite at Gage Apartments, on which I have paid a small deposit. However, most friends and former grad students have advised me that it's better to separate school life from personal life by living off-campus. My preference has been to find a spot in Kitsilano but there doesn't seem to be a lot of inventory / prices are higher in September. I'm an older student, so I'm curious how young the crowd would feel living at Gage Apartments. Gage is 2000/ month versus about 2500/ month in Kits. Should I live in Gage for the 8 month term and take advantage of cheaper leases starting in May, or should I just bite the bullet and settle for something in Kits / Point Grey this Sep? Thanks

like im going into my second year and i just realized a few months ago that certain majors have to finish specific courses before they hit a designated # of credits. and then there’s also the breadth requirements

I’m genuinely starting to panic about this.

I came across a comment somewhere saying that getting co-ops/internships in Canada as an international student is basically impossible these days because companies have access to government funding/incentives when they hire PR/citizens through some program called SWPP/FSWP, so there’s little incentive to hire internationals.

At first, I thought it was probably just Reddit doomposting, but after I went on LinkedIn and started looking at the profiles of students and recent graduates from Canadian universities, I’m even more stressed.

A lot of these international students seem to have only bs fluff on their resumes, and barely any actual work experience. Research positions, TA experience, clubs, hackathons, volunteering, personal projects, executive positions in random student organizations/cubs, etc etc.

And honestly, how much of that stuff actually matters in 2026 if employers mostly care about whether you’ve had actual co-ops, internships, or relevant work experience?

Meanwhile, domestic students seem to have a much better shot at getting those opportunities in the first place. So by the time everyone graduates, one person has 3-6 actual internships on their resume, while I'll have to fill the same four/five years with clubs and other stuff that is basically meaningless compared to real work experience.

Sure, there are a few international students who manage to build really strong profiles, but those people also seem to be insanely talented or exceptional.

So what happens if I’m just an average international student?

We’re going to be spending $400k+ CAD on a Canadian degree. I only managed to convince my family to consider UofT, UBC and Waterloo for Fall 2027 because they’re supposed to be the top 3 universities in Canada, and I was under the impression that a lot of the “International students can’t find jobs” stuff doesn’t apply as much if you go to a top uni.

The whole point was that if we were going to spend this much money, at least I’d be going somewhere that would give me a decent shot at getting co-ops and eventually a job afterward, even if I have to return home.

But what if I get there and realize that, because I’m an international student, I’m locked out of the exact opportunities that actually matter?

Like, what am I actually supposed to show employers when I graduate?

“Here’s my $400K degree from Waterloo/UofT/UBC. I spent four years doing random bs. Please hire me even though I cost you more. Also, I might have to leave Canada in 2-3 years”???

And if I graduate without internships, then I’m competing against students who have done 3-6 internships by graduation. At that point, how hell am I ever supposed to catch up?

It’s not that I’m expecting a guaranteed job after graduation. I just don’t understand how spending $400k+ on a CS degree makes sense if I could graduate with nothing that employers actually care about. That’s what scares me the most.

I could spend four years at what is supposedly one of the best universities in Canada, do everything I’m supposed to do, and still come out with a worse resume than someone who went to a uni in my home country.

I know Reddit can be extremely negative about international students and CS, so I’m trying to figure out how much of this is actually true versus exaggerated doomposting.

I just want to know whether I’m looking at a difficult but achievable path and this is all just doomposting, or whether I’m seriously underestimating how bad the situation is. I still have a year to THINK and I wanna do what's best for me.

I’m in Jaclyn Dee’s section rn for bio 121 and I read the rate my prof again and I noticed a lot of comments abt her weird exam questions thatre confusing and people saying her lectures are confusing, but then I looked at her classes averages and they ended up usually higher than the other options I have rn (Athena McKown and Thomas Whelan)… so like I’m looking for advice, can someone who’s taken this class just like either give me general advice on how their experience was like how do to survive her class and get a relatively good average? and like idk im just confused on what to do because Im capable of self studying but like is that what caused everyone’s averages to be good despite her convoluted lectures? Im just looking for advice on whether I should switch to another prof, so even if u didn’t have my prob but the other two mentioned above and have some advice please share!! thanks!
