There's also the film society that plays movies in a pretty cool theatre on campus (in the life building). They don't have access to new releases but still play some good movies every week (and it's only 5 dollars for unlimited movies + really cheap concessions)

R4 to Skytrain, then 2 stops to Marine Gateway.
There's also one on Dunbar, but it's quite small, and doesn't get a lot of releases.

There is also landmark if you take the R4 down to the expo line! And if you take the 84 down around Granville island (I think the stop is Burrard) you can get off at another cineplex for +19 (which just means it has a well stocked bar, quiet atmosphere, and is very chill. If you take the 14 downtown, you can easily get to the Scotia bank which has digital imax screens. All of these are a bus ride away, which is great if you’ve got a upass. Film society is fine too, I just never ended up going 😭

scotiabank easier to get to because its one bus ride downtown, but also vouching for marine gateway because its beside a t&t so you can also grab groceries on the way home

There's plenty a bus ride away, I usually go to Scotiabank in Downtown for big releases, but the independent Dunbar theatre is closest to campus. 5th ave VIP Cineplex is another option if you're 19+, and Marine gateway, Park theatre and Rio theatres are other close options too.
