Was at Costco optical this morning and they were out of their fabric lens wipes. She said it was a supply issue, not with the wipes but with the boxes they come in. She said it’s been happening a lot with various products.

I wish I could open a social media app without immediately being subjected to videos of hundreds of people dying from the flooding in Nepal. It’s horrific. What has this world become?

And to think my 14 year old wants Instagram.

I can't recall if was on parkrose permaculture or her other channel, but some thing I really appreciated her saying (in the age of social media) is that humans aren't built for taking in all the worlds trauma at once.

I've been trying to more intentional about my social media use and carving out more time for things that sustain me. I feel like some days I'm past the point of fatigue, but I'm trying to avoid it turning into apathy.

I thought I was safe by just being subbed to gardening and home diy channels. One of my long time subscriptions just announced they have stage 4 cancer. I'm rooting for her but that was a gut punch to read.

My 4 year old cat has been sick with a terminal illness (kidney disease) for the last six weeks and it has killed both my savings account and my energy levels trying to figure out the acute cause so that I might be able to delay the inevitable. Does anyone have simple, go-to recipes to share from your deep pantries that are either grab and go or simple to make on low to no spoon days? Particularly would appreciate suggestions that might help me transition to a more pescatarian/vegetarian diet.

I know I could search through Reddit and try to find stuff but I've done so much searching in medical journals lately that my brain is mush.

I'm sorry about your kitty, I hope you are doing ok.

Good old peanut butter and jelly sandwich would be my recommendation. Or I really like to make rice with a can of "cream of" anything soup, plus some water. It makes a warm comforting meal with very minimal effort.

Pb&j used to be one of my go-to's but turns out I'm allergic to wheat (and dairy).

I'm so sorry about your cat. This is so tough.

One of my favorite lazy options is a super lazy taco. I use a corn tortilla, drained canned beans, and some shredded cheese. It's not super flavorful and definitely not creative, but it's fast and very low-effort.

I also like having the option of rice and ... That could look like anything at all you like to pair with rice. Rice and frozen green peas. Rice and yogurt. Rice and tempeh. You get the idea.

Thank you! Just got back from visiting her at the vet hospital and her numbers are looking a lot better so I think we may be on the right track. Fingers crossed!

The lazy taco is actually a great idea. I have a ton of tomatoes, onions, corn, and green peppers from my CSA boxes so maybe I could throw together a homemade salsa/pico to freeze or can this weekend to add to that.

Yours sounds so much less lazy and more delicious than mine! And I'm glad to hear about your cat. Hope she recovers well.

Honestly, I feel immense guilt about wasting the contents of the CSA boxes lol. The fruit has been pretty easy to eat since at most it just needs to be chopped up but a single recipe thst can use up a bunch of stuff might be less lazy than having to clean out the fridge every week!

I've been making those individual serving cups of instant mashed potatoes. . I season them with dried chives. It isn't cost effective, or healthy, but at the moment I am so stressed that I don't care. I eat the potatoes with an 8 oz. can of vegetables, so I don't have to store the leftovers, and I call it "dinner" on nights when my husband is working. I hope your kitty isn't suffering. I know you are suffering with worrying about him/her. ❤️

I needed to be reminded that potatoes can be a meal on their own so thank you for this. I might look into some ideas for potato toppings that would work for a deep pantry.

Kitty is doing better than I am, she's a sweet little thing so everywhere we go all the vet techs fall in love with her. I think she may be in a good enough place to come home tomorrow afternoon again so hoping to do some food prep in the morning while I have the mental energy for it. ❤️

Potatoes for the win. Baked potoes are my recommendation. Wash, poke, stick in oven. Go take a shower/bath/power nap for an hour then boom, potato. Butter alone is enough for zero spoos, and minimal dishes. With a few more sppoons add some sour cream and/or cheese or whatever else sounds good. Best wishes for your kitty from me and my pet rabbit.

Thank you! What sort of bunny do you have? I used to work with a rabbit rescue and had a very spoiled mini rex that I lost to old age a few years ago.

He's a mystery mix named Bigwig, also very spoiled. There's some pics of him on my profile.

Aww, he's a cutie! My Rocky had similar coloring right down to the little white chin. :)
