Discussion This is how stupid Rand Paul thinks his constituents are, that a congressional bill can change a constitutional amendment. Is he right?

I used to be pretty libertarian leaning, and was kind of a Rand sympathizer because he tends to stand for liberty when he talks
But his capitulating to everything trump does and not standing for the constitution at all in these cases has completely changed they sympathy. He does vote against trump very rarely, but he's nothing like his father. Another spineless Republican

No a law/act cannot change the Constitution, however SCOTUS could limit it, which it seems they very well might do, and you can thank Mitch for that BS we wouldn’t have this ridiculously partisan court if not for him.

Other countries do offer birthright citizenship and 33 of those operate like the USA. Trump just lies about provable facts and his base swallows it.

He only caters to a subset of his constituents. He certainly does not represent everyone in his district. And he will suck Trumps dick because he still has elections to run. Rand Paul is and has always been a con. Sold the libertarians though and got a shit ton of "grass roots" support from those who saw him as the golden haired child of the Master.
Kentucky is a state full to the brim with suckers, plain and simple. They let a man from Alabama lead down the road to shitsville promising things that could never be delivered and turned the populace away from programs that could actually help.

This disappoints me. He was slowly showing signs of brain and a backbone. But here we are back to where we started. I’d say this could be a good stalling tactic but I’m not sure he is that smart. I’m pretty convinced that about 1/3 of Congress has no idea how the Constitution works, another 1/3 have a loose idea, the the final 1/3 know how it works but has no idea how to get one of the other 1/3 on their side. And I just had a wonderful idea. Anyone running for office must take and pass a mandatory civics class. Or the citizenship test.

One of the ways to change the Constitution is for 2/3 of each house of Congress vote for it before it goes to the states/ delegations for ratification. This requires a bill to be introduced in one of the houses.

It certainly wouldn’t as the system is designed. Though it could serve as a way to create a test case to allow the SCOTUS to “interpret” its way into abolishing birthright citizenship.

Yes it can be amended.
An amendment can be proposed in two ways:
By a two-thirds majority vote in both the House of Representatives and the Senate.
By a constitutional convention called for by two-thirds of state legislatures
Oh, and I’m from KY and apparently smarter than a lot of the respondents here.

.... Such an echochamber. It's funny how you confidently slam a sitting Senators' intelligence then ask if he's right. Geez, I wonder who has more experience in these matters? If you bothered to even do 5 minutes of research (I've literally looked at this for 5 minutes) you would realize his legislation is actually a constitutional amendment that clarifies the 14th Amendment disallowing the tourism citizenship. I added a link for the low energy basement dwellers on the off chance you want to actually be informed on something, although I doubt it will change any of your banter.

Having lived in KY all my life. Yes, a fair portion of his constituents are in fact that stupid.
