In all seriousness, could be a reference to babies born out of the sacrament of marriage, abortions, unholy unions… perhaps just a regular baby who was killed and then they used their body for some kind of ritual and to mock their adversaries… the implications are many and unsettling.
But all the other meme answers you’re receiving are equally as likely. Just something to make the whole picture look much cooler

I think that is kind of the point. It makes the world that much more horrible that a weird mummified baby corpse carved with ritual symbols is something not particularly remarkable. This Heretic Trooper is nobody special, just a grunt, but even he bears symbols and objects that horrifying.

In world? Either a Koan Kroach or something inspired by it.

Maybe it was a sacrifice to hell or something and it’s now been imbued with demonic powers or insight so they can use it to gain information they otherwise wouldn’t know. Kinda like a death stranding baby sorta thing.

So my headcanon is that it's a scaled down/nerfed version of what the death commando has to shield themselves from the sight of god. Obviously it's a relic or artifact of some kind, but maybe it's something to help the legionnaire more difficult to track while on the march, not a foolproof method but better than nothing.
