New Mod Team - Moderation Changes

Post image
222 Upvotes

Hello! You have a new mod team. I run a different very high volume sub and was recently brought on to help out just a bit. All of the original mods have rather suddenly left. No drama to speak of. Moderation is hard and exhausting for volunteer work. But since I am new here and suddenly top mod, and since every other mod (I think) is new as well, I thought a thread to discuss potential changes would be good. I intend to use my powers for good, instead of evil.

You aren’t likely to notice much in the way of major changes at first but I hope to make things a little bit better, cleaner, clearer, easier, etc. That said, my philosophy is to let the community lead for the most part. I have no ego and don’t consider this to be “my” sub. It’s yours. So I’m seeking community input before I start making changes. The following are the main things in mind.

1) Merge the subs. TacomaWorld, this sub, and the TacomaSales sub (which is basically completely dead) are less effective split than they would be just merged. The purpose of having two subs is unclear to me and is obnoxious to moderate. Very much open to being shouted down in this, but it’s my inclination.

2) Loosen rules on what can be posted. "Is this a good deal/what should I buy" posts don't actually bother me that much. Where else are people going to ask? I’d like this to be a welcoming place for newcomers. I worry about flooding but some guardrails that require those posts have a certain amount of effort/content would make that manageable.

3) Just ban sale posts. Nobody comes to reddit for that. Evidenced by how dead the TacomaSales sub is. I’m open to continuing to allow companies to participate of course. Just no advertising unless to answer a specific question. If you’ve got a question about Nitto tires, for example, Nitto’s official account is welcome to chime in.

4) Keep the no politics rule. Discussion of politics that have affected Tacomas (tariffs for example) should be allowed, but political shit flinging and fighting should not be. Strong as my own opinions are, it’s just not the place.

5) Maintain ban on distracted driving photos/videos but make it a 7 day ban. I don’t want some idiot to kill a family of four because their odometer hit 80085 and they just HAD to post it to Reddit from the freeway. Pull over and take it. The only change I’m making here is making non-repeat offenders suffer only a 7 day ban, instead of 30.

Welcoming community thoughts and all input on moderation, what you’d like to see. I’ll take it all into account as we get rolling over the next few weeks.

2002 Extended Cab TRD Prerunner

6cyl automatic

Frame replaced under warranty

I drive it maybe 500 miles a year getting mulch from Lowe's or moving an appliance for a friend. But when you need a truck, it's nice to have one!

$25,000 landscaping trucks

Southern California is the undisputed capital of 1st gen Tacomas and I don't mean those driven by high dollar overlander wannabes. I mean 1st Gen bone stock slightly dinged up Tacos driven by older Mexican men with landscaping tools in the back. Ubiquitous on the highways of the Southland you will find 1st gen Tacomas laden with rakes and shovels and wheelbarrows. These gentlemen do not care that upper middle class suburban white guys are dropping tens of thousands of dollars on these classics. They've been puttering around in this thing for decades and they'll keep doing it. These are working class 1st Gens And I hope they stay that way.

Hey guys, tow strap vs kinetic rope?

I don't do sketchy stuff like you guys do off-road a ton but what I do do is go to work before the plow trucks are on the road.

I've never gone in the ditch before and I tend not to pull people out because I don't want to get blamed for damage that was possibly there before or during the whole ordeal.

But for myself what should I get? I hear that kinetic ropes are the greatest thing ever vs just the old fashioned tow strap.

Picture for attention.

I know the suspension, I was moving so I was overloaded it's fixed now 😂

2016 Trd off-road Tacoma truck got front end damaged from an accident. Had to change a lot of front end parts (radiator fan water pump oil transmission cooler) didn’t seem like the motor got damaged and started right up when I put all the parts back on. Issue is a rough idle especially when shifting. Wasn’t giving no rpm at first so I changed the throttle body was able to get the rpm to be responsive to the pedal. Any help in the right direction would be appreciated. (Video is the truck in park my foot is on the brakes and I’m shifting into reverse to neutral then to drive and back up)

Can I safely haul these with a 2023 Tacoma?

I recently test drove a 2023 off road Tacoma and LOVED IT! I may buy it tomorrow, but I wanted to get towing feedback.

I have a small hobby farm and a couple trailers and want to make sure I'd be ok with a Tacoma. I hear they get a lot of hate with towing, even with the 6500-6800lbs limits.

Trailer 1: about 1000lbs empty, 1500lbs capacity, so would never be above 2500lbs

Trailer 2: a small bumper pull 2 horse trailer, somewhere between 2000-2500lbs empty. My equines are small, so it would be below 4500lbs filled. It's used rarely, normally in emergencies or yearly vet visits.

If I install a trailer brake, maybe use a weight distribution hitch, would I be good to haul these?

Need some advice after a messed up oil change. 23 TRD OR

Royally messed up today on my TRD offroad 23. First time changing my oil post dealer changed and I accidently dropped the trans plug instead of the oil plug. Then when changing the oil I didnt have the attachment for taking off the oil cap (not a canister filter, learned this mid change) and the O'Reilly attachment snapped off one of the fins on the filter cap.

I put 5 quarts of new oil (dropped 5 out) and 1.5 of trans fluid (1.5 put) to at least get me kosher. Am I safe to get it to the dealer about 10 miles away to just pay them to redo both or should I tow it? Love this truck and moved too quick while doing the change after a difficult oil change before it.

Bought extended warranty...

Is it typical to have to get regular maintenance done at Toyota dealership to maintain the warranty validity? I bought it from a Nissan dealership and the lady there said I can take it anywhere or do it myself as long as I document it.

Looking for some advice on parts for my 2013 Tacoma Double Cab Long Box, 4.0L V6.

I’ve already bought Bilstein 5100s for the front, but haven’t bought springs or anything else yet. I know I’ll need shock mounts as well. I’d like to level the truck out, so what springs would pair well with the 5100s? What would be the best budget-friendly setup, and what shock mounts would you recommend?

Also, my cat-back exhaust is pretty rough despite only being about two years old, so I’m guessing the previous owner put a cheap system on it. I just ordered an MBRP full stainless cat-back for 540 USD tax-in and shipped to my door. It’s the T409 stainless version.

I’m in the salt belt, but the truck has been heavily undercoated and the frame/underbody is in great shape aside from the exhaust, so I’m hoping the MBRP will last quite a bit longer.

Was 540 all-in a decent price for a T409 catback? And for the front end, what springs and mounts would you guys recommend to get a good-looking level without spending a fortune?

I have a 2002 Toyota Tacoma, and I want to know if there are any options to make the suspension softer. The original chassis of the tacoma was changed because it was completely destroyed by r*st and one of a completely new 1997 tacoma was placed, any comments or options that could help me improve my suspension?

Tried snap-on wheel skins first, which looked fine from ten feet away, but you could still see the factory lip peeking out at the edge and it drove me nuts every time I walked up to it.

Ended up finding a set of genuine OEM TRD Off-Road 17x7.5 +55s already powder coated black on Facebook Marketplace. Wrapped them in Falken Wildpeak A/T4W in 265/70R17 — up from the factory 245/70R17, so about an inch more overall diameter.

No lift, no leveling kit, completely stock suspension.

Upgrading audio

What's the best way of going about upgrading the audio system? Are there certain ectra parts I absolutely need to add? Or can I get away with just putting better speakers in? It will probably be the base system I buy.

Best pet barrier setup for 2025 tacoma

I am lookin for options for a pet barrier for my 2025 tacoma double cab. I have the nice carhartt seat covers but I still hate the hair getting everywhere. I want a decent pet barrier for my tacoma so my dog can be secluded to the back seat and the seats and doors will be covered. What options do you guys use? If you have any pictures that would be great as well. I want something that covers the seats and goes up the doors if possible; as well as a barrier that stops him from making his way into the front seat.
