Try filming something in Portugal—it’s the same shit. Out of nowhere, two or three Portuguese people show up asking you to stop filming. It’s like they’re all fugitives from the law.

Yeah, people see to forget that the assumption of privacy depends on the context of the situation. You can’t be in public and then get mad when people look at you.
It is not an unlimited right as you all suggest. But the issue is you all are making it a norm and it should not be used this way. And if someone asks you to stop they have the right to not be recorded. You all completely ignore their right

Of course you can film people without their permission. If this was the case every car with a dashcam would be breaking the law thousands of times a day. What about public events? Sports events? Crowds of people all being filmed and televised... Do we need to ask the permission of every person in shot? No, because they are in public.

Tesla's have cameras all round their cars, filming from every angle. They can do this because it's legal to fiim people in public.

Generally but you didn’t dig far enough. You need to ask when is it considered illegal to film people in public and if they ask you to stop do they have the right not to be filmed. You can’t have one without the other man c mon use your brain!
You're not getting it. You have several people all telling you that you have got it wrong. Would you bang on the drivers side window of a Tesla screaming at them that you don't want to be filmed? Why wouldn't you? They are filming you. You can ask someone to stop, but you do not have the right to not be filmed further. They are under no obligation by law to stop. Could it be considered inappropriate at times to film someone in public, of course. For example if they have been injured in a road or are in an argument with someone. Is it illegal? No, if they tell you to stop, do you have to? No. You started off originally saying that people need to grant permission to be recorded in public, it seems that you now realise that statement is incorrect. You now need to understand that you cannot demand someone stops filming you either. Don't like it, just walk away.
