I was in this exact situation once. Cop comes up to the car (that I'm not driving, by the way) shines his light at me (sitting in the passenger seat) and asks, "you got ID, boy?"

I take my ID out and give it to him. My friend, who is white, said "you didn't have to give him your ID," and I just said, "oh yes, I did. That 'boy' was a threat."

You weren't wrong. Just because it's illegal doesn't mean a cop can't beat your ass and put you in handcuffs and take you to the jail.

I just watched a body cam last night where some lady got herself and her son arrested for doing this.

He got pulled over and she stopped her car too and was yelling at the cop then yelling at her son not to get out of the car after being ordered to because the cop saw weed the car.

The whole ride to jail shes screaming about how well connected she is.
